As Northport disappeared in the distance his mind got lost into memories not half as old as he would like them to be. The dark skies, the maelstrom, the brime. Part of Emrys could not help but to fear it would happen again. It was a fact he kept to himself, a thought he tried to put away by working with the navigator’s tools. The uneventful first day did help calming his emotions. A bout of luck that did not continue on the second day.
A storm was approaching and Sayyida was the first to react, putting the hands on deck to work where it was necessary. Sae went to deal with the fire, and the halfling thanked the gods for the fact that would have time to react. We may be able to outrun it. They certainly had the necessary tools to try.
“Prepare to change course to avoid the squall!” Emrys shouted taking to the table. “I need an extra pair of hands with me! Now!” With some help it would be able to do the measurements faster. “Get the ruler and caliper.” He said to the one answering his call while moving the sextant. “That is our position.” He marked in the map. “Move your hands from here as I instruct.”
Notes: Emrys is asking for a help action with a Survival Check (allowed by the DM) using the the tools to try plotting a route in which the ship can sail without getting caught by the storm.
With the combined efforts of Emrys and Aerleo, your ship manages to stay on the edge of the storm. For the next hour or so you sail, before the storm passes by. It doesn't appear that the ship suffered any significant damage.
As you survey the superficial damage, you hear a couple of voices calling out from not too far away... and if anyone happens to glance over the side of the ship, you can see three unfortunates clinging desperately to the broken mast of a charred hulk that is currently lying on its side in the wake of the the storm. They're too far away to hear what they're saying clearly, but it isn't hard to guess that they're probably begging for aid in their dire circumstances.

Sae hears the voices as she brings out dry kindling to rebuild the galley fire. She makes her way in their direction, and as soon as she is close enough to see the hulk she hurries over to the side, pulling a spyglass from its padded leather pocket inside her quiver. As she trains the glass on the hulk looking for anything out of the ordinary (particularly clues they have anything to do with our target or that the 'accident[' was arranged), she calls out to Emrys or to Sayyida, whichever is nearest:
"Sir (or ma'am)! Ship in distress overside here! Looks like they got caught by the storm, but they're pretty badly burned too."
Sae, looking through the glass you get a decent look at the three sailors. Two men and a woman; the men appear to be humans and the woman a half-orc. They're still quite a ways off, so it's not easy to hear what they're saying, but you're fairly confident that they're trying to get your attention to save them.
As far as the rest of the destroyed ship is concerned, it's possible that the fires could simply be the result of a lightning strike, but you can't be entirely sure without closer inspection. Also, it might occur to some of you that there could still be others trapped inside the ship. If there are, they most likely don't have a lot of time.

If Aerleo can see it, he will jump off the side and start swimming over towards but not all the way to them. He wants to see if he is picking anything up from his ranger sense. He will also make a perception check
You don't notice anything odd as you leap into the sea... as for everyone else, you might want to start making a plan to recover your Triton since he just jumped into the ocean without any kind of safety line.

Dividing his attentions between nautical charts and the horizon, Emrys guided Arleo’s movement of the tools at the navigation table. The halfling expected the triton to protest about the idea of having to follow the instructions of a surface-sweller, but instead he proved his words from days before. Arleo is not a savage. He is brother in arms and one that with each passing day proves himself, with time and actions, worth of call trust. Thanks to his help in the measurements they found a route with strong enough of a current to carry them away from the storm and in able time.
With the coordinates in mind, he ran to the helm. There, he guided the helmsman, shouting for a change of direction in the sails when necessary. It was a strange experience, far too different from his normal job. As merchant he is meant to leverage connections and close deals in which both sides can walk away with a victory. It’s a process of manners, negotiation between equals. Correct the curse of the ship was another thing. He shouted with no manners and gave orders with no compromise. So that is a captain’s part, Goldenleaf pondered while think about how easy Sayyida made it look.
“Let’s bring them on board. They’ll be able to speak what happened with the ship, if it’s worth to approach.” Before he could say another word Arleo jumped into the sea. “Prepare three ropes for the newcomers!” He turned to Sae, pulling fifty feet of hempen. “I’m not strong on this sense, so you make the throw and I help with the pull.”
Notes: Emrys handles a hempen rope to Sae and will uses his action to help her pull anyone from the sea.
If you want to throw ropes to the sailors or to Aerleo, I'm going to need someone to make an Athletics check, with advantage since Emrys already offered to help in the endeavor.

Aerlo can breathe underwater and had a swimming speed equal to his walking speed. He would dive deep enough that the waves are not affecting him and try to sneak up under one of the people to see if this is some kind of ruse.

"Aye-aye, captain ... I believe that's the nautical term of assent?", Sae replies as she draws out a rope of her own. Fixing that rope to a cleat and throwing it over the side for Arleo to use in getting back on board, she takes the other and ties a small sinker to the end from the stock of emergency fishing equipment most cautious captains stock. She swings this one over her head to gain momentum and throws it to the sailors on the wreck as soon as our ship is close enough. If anyone gives her two more ropes she will do the same for the other two shipwrecked sailors.
The throw is off by about 10 feet... but that doesn't deter the half-orc woman as she lets go of the mast and starts swimming towards the rope.
(DM dice rolling sounds). The half-orc manages to grab hold of the rope, and swims back towards her companions, handing it off to one of the two men before making a hand signal for Sae & Emrys to pull him up (I won't make you roll for that, it's easy enough as long as you anchored your end to something solid).
Meanwhile, Aerleo continues swimming underneath the stranded three... nothing so far is indicating that they are anything but extremely unfortunate (or perhaps extremely fortunate since they survived the wreck and you guys arrived before the sea could claim them anyway). That being said, getting a better look at the portion of the ship below the water, Aerleo can see what appears to be some battle damage. It's unclear whether this battle damage caused the ship's current state or if it was a separate incident.
Can Aerleo go through the shipwreck to see if there is anything interesting or useful?
Yes you certainly can. There are even a few convenient cannonball holes that you can easily slip into.
I will warn you, though, even though you can't drown, it is a very real possible that you could get trapped inside of the ship if something goes wrong.

As she helps Emrys drag the first shipwrecked sailor dripping over the side, Sae calls to him, "Is it just the three of you? Are there any more trapped below?" Meanwhile she draws the rope in, swings it above her head, and throws it back to the remaining two sailors. Then she shouts to get their attention, holds up two fingers, and points to the second rope she threw overside for Aerleo. If she thinks they wouldn't see it at the distance they are, she will lift it enough to show it to them.
