”The mules are going to be anxious in this storm,” says Flint from his location at the front door. “I’d better keep them company tonight.”
Grabbing what bread and meat he was served and paying for it, the dwarf heads out to the barn and watches over the wagon and the mules, sipping from his tankard and watching the storm roll in through the cracks between the boards.

Kiza was busy pecking at her food, until Essendrum's warning. Oh great what troubles does this night bring. She turns to a sleepy Venti on her pack. "Tonight my friend you must stay on watch and warn me if something dangerous comes." The bat takes flight and hangs upside down on one of the eaves on the ceiling. "Yes I will stay as that is a foul storm out there"
Essendrum grumbles, “Dwarves!” Mentally he tells the raven to watch over the dwarf and not to sleep. When Flint arrives in the stable, the bedraggled raven eyes him reproachfully and croaks, “Dwarf!”
Essendrum nods to the innkeeper. “We will stay.” He hands a gold piece to Jorge. “A warm breakfast in the morning, weather permitting.”
Once the inkeeper retires, Essendrum answers all of Enoch’s questions and sets his wards: an alarm in the stable not triggered by Flint or the raven and with an audible bell in the common room if it is triggered, and alarms at the doors (front door, kitchen, and door to the private rooms) not triggered by the party and all with a mental ping to him. Then he arranges his bedroll far from all the doors and settles in.
”I’ll leave the watches to the young. Wake me if you must.”
Flint leaves for the stables and the rest of the party settles in for a night in the common room.
Flint: Flint makes his way to the stable. The wind and hard rain take their toll and once he gets inside he is soaked through. Flint hears Essendrum's raven from somewhere overhead as it says "Dwarf" when Flint gets inside. Flint avoids the three horses and finds a spot where the mules are standing. The mules look at the dwarf as he enters but turn back to their hay feast provided for them. Flint settles down for the night.
The storm didn't stop raging for some time. The wind occasionally blows hard enough to shake both the inn and the stables with several flashes of lightning illuminating the sky outside and the sound of rain hitting the sides and roof of both buildings hard enough for the sound to echo inside.
Several roosters crow as dawn breaks over the land. The storm had subsided sometime in the early morning and now the rays of sunlight start peeking over the horizon. The party awakens at the sound of movement inside the kitchen area. Several "clangs" of what you believe are metal pots can be heard coming from it. Jorge can be seen moving back and forth in the kitchen. Jorge comes out and upon seeing those in the party awake he asks: "Did you sleep well?"
Kiza gets up groggily. "No as that storm felt like it was right here inside with loud cracks of lightning and thunder. I cannot wait to see what you have for breakfast" says Kiza
Essendrum tells his raven to wake Flint. The raven flaps down and lands nearby out of reach and croaks, “breakfast.” If Flint doesn’t respond it carefully selects a rafter and poops on his head.
Seeing no breakfast and being somewhat surprised to have passed the night without having been assaulted by evil spirits, assassins, or mad warlocks who consort with beings at the edge of sanity, he steps outside to take the air. He casts a ritual alarm on the wagon and returns with Flint in tow.
"Well enough," yawned Enoch groggily. Then, remembering the discussion he'd had with Essendrum, he suddenly looked around for the old man from last night. After not seeing him, the paladin slowly moved towards a table to sit, although he seemed quite vigilant in his observations as he did.
Far from the worst place he has slept, Flint beds down nicely in some loose straw near the wagon, waking up as refreshed as if he had his own smooth but supportive granite pillow.
Carefully dodging the Raven’s morning presents, Flint splashes some water on his face from one of the troughs and slicks his hair back, then heads into the tavern for some breakfast.

After the party conducts whatever morning rituals they deem fit they meet up back in the common room with little fanfare. Jorge provides a meal of porridge and little else. Any other request will of course cost. The three men are the first of the other guests to arrive. They take a table and talk quietly among themselves. Their voices raise slightly as it appears they have some disagreement. The old man comes down and makes his way out the front door. He was bobbing up and down as he walked and kept his gaze straight ahead.
Essendrum: About 10 minutes after Essendrum goes back inside, his raven sends him a message. "A small group heading this way from the east."
20 minutes into the meal, such as it is, the three men promptly get up, pay their bill, and leave.
OCC: going to pause for a moment and allow the party to complete any tasks they wish. Will continue the post later today, or this evening.
Eating breakfast and paying for some meat (bacon if they have it), Flint listens to any obvious talk in the common room but doesn’t try to eavesdrop on any private conversations.
After breakfast, he heads out to the wagon, gets in his armor, then feeds and brushes down the mules, checking their shoes for any issues and the wagon for any problems as well. Once he is satisfied all is well, Spike guides the miles out of the stable and out in front of the inn to be ready when the party comes out.

Venti falls from ceiling into Kiza's hands "You did well now go to sleep" she then graciously takes the porridge and eats her breakfast with Venti snoozing on her pack.
Enoch finishes his meal, keeping his disappointment in the lack of meat to himself. Afterwards, he washes up as best he can from the outdoor trough, re-dons his armor, then rejoins the group, ready to leave.
Essendrum can read lips due to his Observant feat and will watch the lips of the three men. Investigation roll to piece together what they are saying if needed: 13
Essendrum is happy to hit the road and meet the approaching group there. Should there be trouble, it would be a shame to remodel Jorge’s lovely inn with a fireball. If his raven can shadow the armed men, so much the better.
Essendrum uses his skills to eavesdrop on the conversation of the three men. Brother 1: "When we find the creature, I will be the first to strike." he says with some pride. Brother 2: "No so brother, I will have the honor of the 1st strike." The 3rd brother has his back to Essendrum so he can not gauge his response but the 2 brothers he can see react to whatever the man says with a scowl.
The party pay their respective bill and meet out front. Flint has saved some time and has the wagon ready. Once outside the party can see a group of men coming up to the Inn. All are dressed in various armor and carry packs and weapons. One calls out to your group.
"Oye", He calls out. "How far is it to Triboar?" he asks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
