Once again, the paladin closes his eyes for a moment, reaching out with his Divine Sense to determine whether there are evil entities nearby, whether there is strong evil nearby, or whether anything has been consecrated or desecrated.
Enoch's vision swirls as he uses his power to touch the divine to discern this place. He is overcome by a dark foul odor something akin to brimstone and the spray of a skunk. The entire place reeks of dark energies. He can not sense any dark entities close by.
Kiza jumps back reflexively as she hears the chorus. "What by the gods was that?" Her gaze darts around the room to see if there is some ghostly apparition.

Kiza looks about but does not find any practical source for the whispers.
Essendrum sighs. “That was not very welcoming. It seems you cannot be trusted with something so dangerous.” He casts mage hand and attempts to pluck the wand of magic missiles from the statue’s hand.
The party flinches at the attack and Essendrum's raven being obliterated. Essendrum, Spike, and Kiza focus their inspection on the statue again to find a set of two holes at the base of the statue.
Essendrum uses Mage Hand and is able to pull one of the rods from the hands of the statue. He pulls the rod to him half expecting to be pulling a wand to him but finds the rod is a simple piece of wood.
Watching the smart people do their work, Spike restrains himself from rushing the statue and dulling his spikes on its stony exterior. Instead, he looks keeps an eye out for anything long and tough and heavy he can use to pulverize the statue should it threaten them again.

On second thought Essendrum decides to place the rod he’s already recovered into one of the holes with mage hand and then try to pluck the other one and place it in the other hole, also with mage hand.
You watch as Essendrum uses his [spell]Mage Hand[/spell} to easily pick the rods from the hands of the statues and slide them into the holes at its base. There is no click, nor anything that would indicate that this has done something or prevented the statue from firing, though none of you have moved from the spot you entered from save Essendrum in "raven form".
"Great now we have no idea what triggers the statue. Good idea Spike" Kiza will follow the less dusty trail to the northwest tunnel. If the statue starts moving, she will head back.
Shrugging, Enoch watches as Kiza takes the first few steps. If there is no sound, and no movement from the statue, he will follow along in her footsteps.
Spike and Kiza set out to follow the less-than-dusty trail. They get to the entrance of that hallway. There is a grating sound as the rest of the party sees the statue shift towards Spike and Kiza as they move away. Both arms of the statue point towards the two but, nothing happens.
Spike and Kiza get approximately 10 ft. down the hall when there is a rumbling. Suddenly a wall slides out of the right of the hall and slams into a niche on the left wall of the hall. Before it did both of you were able to determine the less dusty path continued to follow the hall.
Essendrum quickly jots down notes on the murals, mosaics, and behavior of the statue to add to his notes on the sarcophagus. “The Red Wizards who built this place were meticulous and skilled. Their fondness for necromancy and other dark arts is unfortunate of course, but one must admire their craft.” Between dips of his quill in ink, he keeps sharp eyes on Kiza and the statue to see what might happen next.

Essendrum steps forward with his torch to shed light on the new obstacle and examine it.
Investigation: 25
Essendrum leaves from where he stands and goes to the stone wall after it closes on Spike and Kiza. Holding his torch to where he can see, inspecting the wall. He sees a small rail at the bottom and top of this "new" wall. To the wizard's mind, it means this is not magical but mechanical and as such there must be a triggering mechanism. The wizard looks around the wall and near it but does not find what causes the trigger. He steps back a few paces. On the ground, approximately 5 paces from the wall is an odd stone.

"Careful," sighed Enoch as he opened his eyes. "There are malicious forces, probably even magical, everywhere here. We should tread lightly."

"Dust trail leading that way." Bjorn makes an effort to point it out to the rest of the party.

"Perhaps we should put the wooden rods into those holes at the base of the statue" suggest Kiza.
Essendrum attempts to secure the second rod with mage hand. If successful, he walks up and places the rods in the two holes.
