"It seems we are in agreement that we should go search for Gundren and Sildar. I will rest and pray for guidance, but I suspect we will want to leave at early morning light to get on the trail of these goblins, correct?"

“Let’s meet at the Stonehill Inn before sunrise get an early start I’m not really convinced being a goblin hostage is a good position for our esteemed employers, if there’s a chance we have to find th em fast. The first 24 hours are criticle.”
[Regarding Barthen] - Yes, Barthen takes possession of the oxen, wagon, and cargo. He has sent young Ander to fetch another assistant to unload said provisions. You will not be held accountable for them any longer. Your job is done! Y'all can leave anytime you like
[History] - Perhaps it was legend among the Watchers, perhaps among the smugglers, perhaps it was a bedtime story… but one way or another, Caledon recalls this about the fabled Wave Echo Cave:
*cue mysterious music*
More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy upon the mythical "Forge of Spells", where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby town of Phandalin prospered. But it was not to last.
One fell season, a powerful band of orcs, reinforced by mercenary wizards, descended upon Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was soon lost.
That is all Caledon knows. [Does he share that with the others?]
[Feature: Down Low (it will make sense later)] - The first few stars are peppering the darkening sky by the time Caledon, Cressel, and Latimer leave Barthen's Provisions. Before you go too far, an elderly male dwarf waves you over.
"Lo there, newcomers! My name is Daran Edermath. I tend a modest orchard just outside of town. I used to be an adventurer like you, but… well, old age calls upon us all, in the end. It would be a right treat for you all to spend the night at my place. I have a large kitchen and some old mattresses you can lay near the warm hearth. We can share tales, open a bottle of my homemade cider, and you wouldn't be harassed by the lads in red. What say you? Do an old dwarf a kindness and say yes."
He gives you directions to his house and bids you join him when you're ready.
Caledon, Cressel, and Latimer head towards the Sleeping Giant. As you come up to the door, you hear a commotion inside!
NEPHIRA
The four men in stained crimson cloaks stand at the same time, adjusting belts, leather armor, and shortswords. The Hooded Man leans in to whisper in Nephira's ear.
"Their leader is a human mage they call Glasstaff. He's paying them. I don't know their numbers, but they're holed up at Tresendar Manor, up on the hill. If you survive this, I have something else for you."
One of the Redbrand ruffians draws his shortsword and tests its edge with a thumb. He points it at Nephira. "You. You ain't from 'round here."
Another pipes up. "What's with yer eyes? You devil-spawn or somethin'?"
A fellow ruffian cuffs that one on the ear. "My girl back in Waterdeep is devil-spawn, you idiot. Mind your insults 'fore I mind 'em for ya."
The fourth ruffian just rolls his eyes and cracks his knuckles. "Let's have this done with already. We still got to deal with those other three. The hooded fella gonna raise a fuss if we bloody his new friend?"
The first ruffian shakes his head. "He can't."
The Hooded Man shrugs apologetically to Nephira. "Syndicate policy. But you should know I'm rooting for ya." He raises his tankard in salute. "You'd better run, mate."
The Redbrands Ruffians rush forward!

Bouncing a bit at the prospect of hearing new information, he nods his head. "Hello there good sir, that is mighty kind of you to offer. I'm not sure what tales I can share, but I'd be happy to join you."
Nephira, your turn! Then the all the Ruffians will go. We will then enter regular combat. Caledon, Cressel, and Latimer, when it is the start of your turn, you will begin your movement AT the front door, so plan accordingly.
Nephira, seeing she's cornered and not knowing when her friends might arrive, realizes the odds are massively stacked against her. She quickly decides she doesn't want to give these creeps the satisfaction of taking her life.
She feints an attack, (flavor for taking a Disengage action) then darts toward the front door, pushing aside the chair and table in her attempt to escape and (hopefully) find the rest of her party...

Nephira - You dart past the flinching ruffians and manage to traverse the table and chairs, but the going is slower than hoped. (Successful acrobatics check, but movement through counts as Difficult Terrain). You still manage to bowl through the unlocked door and into the night air. The ruffians are close behind.
Ruffians 1, 3, and 4 pursue directly. Ruffian 2 shouts "I'll cut her off!" and dashes for the side door. Ruffian #4 attacks Nephira with two fast slashes of his shortsword!

ROUND 1 - Nephira is up! Followed by Cressel, Ruffian #1, Caledon.

Bloodied from the ruffian's second attack, Nephira sees her allies approaching and manages to call out one word. "Trouble" before turning back to face Ruffian #4.
Instead of drawing her swords, however, she pulls out her net, launching it at the Ruffian shouting, "Think fast!"...

Wearily walking up the path, he spots Nephira run outside the Inn and shout "Trouble", then he sees the Redbrand in the doorway get caught in the net and focuses on them.
"Looks likeNephiramade enemies already." Moving over towards her, he casts frostbite on the one in the doorway (CON DC 14, 5 frost damage if fails)
Ruffian #2 runs out the side door in order to cut off Nephira, but faced with an angry dwarf, he draws his swords and holds. (He can't reach Caledon and so he shall have to wait).
Ruffian #3 sees Caledon roaring and decides that he too would prefer a more open route and - hurtling the bar - follows Ruffian #2.
