“That’s terrible!” Tybitha says catching a glimpse of the rash before Lyrencia covers it. ”Yes, of course! I’ll help in any way that I can! The Old Windmills Farm, you say? How long ago did this start?”
She says to Tristan, "Rise, please. I an still not used to people kneeling before me. As for associating... " She gives a warm smile, "I choose who I associate with. No worries. "
Realizing she had not introduced the last member of the party, she turns to the warforged standing motionless and quietly in the corner. (He could almost be mistaken for a statue.)
"I beg your pardon Mr. Warfoged."
Turning to the party, "This is Crow. He was raised on that farm and was left behind when the farms and area was abandoned. He will also be joining the party on this mission."
Crow, says "Greetings. My name is Scarecrow, but you may call me Crow, if you would like. I am a farm mach... I am studding to be a druid. I was working on the farm for many decades. About 8 years ago a portion of one farm started to strangely lose its ability to grow crops. This was not a normal fungus or pest or watering or sunlight problem. As time went on it spread to that whole farm and than to other farms. It was spreading faster. They tried many things to remedy it, but in the end they gave up and abandoned the farm about 2 years ago. Other farmers came and tried to understand and stop it. One said that they thought it was 'necrotic' in nature. It does not appear to harm organic lifeforms or myself, just the farmlands and the young miss here."
Lyrencia continues, "The previous queen, whom I served, was struck down by this, thing a couple years ago. When I started to show similar signs I took it upon myself to get help to investigate, find the cause and hopefully stop its spread across the kingdom, endangering the food supply to the people."
"My personal guards, from the Knights of Crown, and you'all are all that know of the link between the blight and myself. I have told the King and the court that I have hired you to investigate the blight. Here is a document, giving you authority in the kingdom to investigate the blight. Please be discreet so as to avoid any panic and hording of food. For now we are safe. The King has opened the food stores to supplement the current crops, but it will not last forever."
She takes and hands each of you a small bag. "Thank you for traveling here. I cannot give you much at this time to start you off but I will try to send one of the queen's guard to you with more."
"Do you have any other questions for me." As she says this she looks very tired and drained of energy.
In the bag you each find 100gold pieces. (NOTE, prices are set at the Player Handbook level)
Tendilius stifles his surprise as the queen shows the infection on her leg. He looks to Tybitha, wondering if she's seen anything like it, but holds off on voicing his query for the time being. "Hello, Crow." he says to the warforged, "Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
To the queen he asks, "You mentioned this blight started in Old Windmills and has moved outwards. More rapidly now. Exactly how far has it gone?"
She says "Yes, It has advanced as far west as the edge of into the Ulden Swamps and as far north as Sobruz Quarry and Penitentiary. There is not a steady pace or natural direction to it. It seems to leap more by surges. One month, there will be no advancement. The next, it's taken a half-dozen farms."
”So, this blight has destroyed farmlands, but doesn’t harm organic life…except you, Lyrencia and the previous Queen? How curious.”
Tybitha pulls a notebook from her pack and jots down the information to recall later. As Lyrencia briefly shows her infection, Tybitha notes the size, color and any other distinguishing marks. She looks up Crow, ”I appreciate you joining us. I’m not familiar with anywhere outside of Onydbyr.”
Tristan just rises and nods "Thank you." he then grabs the bag as its put on the table and takes in the situation and question "Do you mind if I look at your leg? I've spent some time helping with healing in the past and would like to see if maybe we can't understand it a bit better."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tristan just nods as he kneels to look and begins to look it over ensuring not to apply to much pressure. Before finishing he will just look up at her "Do you mind if I try something, I don't know what the effects will be and just wanted to give you a heads up in case it hurts a little."
"Ulden swamps and Sobruz quarry." repeats Tendilius quietly to himself. A notable size for a blight but if that was enough to kill a queen he wonders what a further spread could do. "Do you know if there's any records of a similar blight from before?"
“Sweet Besmara's Cleat!”Flores muttered under her breath as she finally arrived at the Diamondback Trout. It was the right inn, and the right day, but the wrong time.
It was a fine line between being cautious and paranoid – and Flores had just endured almost an hour of the latter. Wary of the initial invitation, she had done some digging and the secrecy surrounding the invitation had set off too many alarms in her head to be ignored.
Now, of course, she felt (and no doubt assumed) she looked foolish, as she felt her cheeks burning at her over-zealous caution – if that was even a thing!
So, she made her way into the bar and composed herself.
“I’m late… of course with good reason."She flashed the invitation briefly before looking at the bartender expectantly.
