"Bloody thing, what in horrible world is this thing!" Progo draws his raiper and stabs at the creature wildly.
To hit: 14 (recklessly attacked so attacks at Progo are at advantage) for 10 damage plus 6 sneak.
Progo trys to slip away after the wild stab at the creature but can't seem to find his footing or opportunity to slip back without giving the creature an opening to tear into him again. Wanting to move back Progo decides to stand his ground in front of his new friends, but he may have bitten off more then Progo can chew with this crew and mission.
By Moradin's hammer, this took a turn for the worse. He still wasn't sure whether the illusion was his doing and, if not, whether it was an attempt to aid him or not. He had a suspicion that, like the blade he conjured, this was somehow his doing, but he'll have to figure out how another time, if he ever gets the chance.
Speaking of blades, he was now holding one and standing in front of two armed and armoured guards, and yet, they didn't seem fazed by this at all. Why would they be? He is one, with little to protect him from their weapons and weakened after who knows how long without proper nourishment. Nonetheless, he didn't believe that just going back to his cell would help in any way. They knew he would leave, and the "squidy" will come, eventually, either way.
"And then what?" He tries. "Your 'squidy' will come either way, or I'll die of thirst first."He must appear threatening to have a chance here. Clearly, he hadn't achieved that yet, but maybe a display of force would help. They've seen his blade already, so there's probably not much to lose at this point. Werhann wills a Greataxe into his hand, and the shortsword he just held dissipates away as it forms. The biggest weapon he could think of. He wasn't really used to such weapons, as they're usually uncomfortable to use in his usual line of work, but such a weapon materialising might scare them, at least a bit, right? "Why don't you let me pass, and after a bit, leave this place and start a new life, one where you don't kidnap Hunters and work for... 'squids', as you call them. That way, you get to keep your heads on one hand, and you don't end up where I just was, on the other."
Hoping to intimidate the guards? Intimidation, if relevant: 12+4=16.
If the guards show any sign of aggression, Werhann is ready to fight for his freedom. (Hopefully, Armor of Agathys is still up though?)

Both guards seem somewhat wary of the appearing and disappearing weapons.......the younger man with the badly done bowl cut is obviously cowed by Wehanns words and looks like he wants to allow him past.....the older man with leathery skin and close cropped grey hair is less than impressed by Werhanns bluster but is equally obviously utterly terrified to the point of panic by whatever this ' squid' might do to him if Werhann leaves here.
"What was those things? The grocer's brain would have looked like those! Would it? What did these Illiad or whatever you called them do to people? Progo likes his brain where it is, Progo is rather attached to it." He looks back at the hatch, would there be more of the brain dogs or even worse behind it. Progo was wondering what he got himself into this time. Somebody should do something about these things, though he supposes that why they were here. This went from a simple search and rescue mission to possibly a full elimination of these creatures stronghold. They would need more help to do such a feat. Progo wasn't one to get cold feet, but he also wasn't afraid to admit to turning around walking away before getting himself killed. Get the dwarf and get out, that's the goal, nothing more.
When the second creature falls, Dev’s movements slow and his music begins to fade out as he scans the area for more of them. When none appear, the music fades to silence, his features revert from the sneering rictus that possesses him when he’s frightened to those of the wide-eyed street urchin who somehow survived the streets of Drynna. He looks to Normont, Lokilia, and Quinn first for damage. “Are you hurt?,”
Dev also notices, again, Progo’s wounds. But he bites his lip in concern rather than offering help. He knows that some people would rather carry their own burdens and offers of help can put them on the defensive. He hasn’t figured out Progo yet, but the half-orc seems to bear his cuts and bruises with confidence so Dev does nothing. Yet.
He turns his attention to the trap door.
”I wonder if there are more of those creatures in there…,” he whispers.

Lokilia nods. "Yea, those are probably what got the grocer. They're associated with Illithids. Not technically illithids themselves, I don't think..." She realizes that those details probably aren't important, so stops, focusing instead on the injured man. She isn't willing to just let his wounds go. "Progo, we should probably get you fixed up a bit. Maybe even take a moment to rest. Hmm, I should probably see to my own injuries too after that scuffle in the streets."
(OOC - My intention would have been to have Lokilia cast Goodberry each night before resting, if she has a spell slot available, and keeping 10 berries around in a pouch for the next day if needed. Is it ok to assume she has those without using one of her current spell slots? Also, probably wise for us to short rest and heal up before moving on. Lokilia is at 22/30 hp.)
He didn't expect much, and although not entirely confident in his ability to take on both, Werhann hoped that if he can take out the older man, the younger one will surrender. A big if, that's for sure, in his state. But going back to the cell wasn't a valid option.
After a moment waiting to see if the two surrender, and seeing that they don't, Werhann can only nervously pull his shoulders. "Unfortunate, really. Whatever your squidy is, I hoped we can reach some humanoid understanding." And finally, he raises his newly summoned greataxe to an attacking stance, then charges to attack the older of the guards.
I wasn't sure if you'd want an initiative roll, so I rolled that as well. 8+2=10.
If Werhann acts first, he'll run towards the older guard and attack him with the greataxe. 18+6=24 to hit, 6+4=10 (magical) slashing damage.
"Here," Lokilia says, coming over to Progo. She fishes around in one of her pouches, emptying out several berries into her hand. "Take these, they can help heal you," she says as she hands the berries to Progo. (OOC - There are 10 berries which each heal 1 hp.)
Progo smiled faintly as he took the berries. He had had them before and remembered there abilities. He also remembered they were like eating a lead ball that expanded once eaten. Progo could survive one one of those things all day, eating too many of them woukd make Progo sluggish and all ten might be more then his stomach could take. Realizing Lokilia had a few wounds herself, Progo gives 3 berries back. "Progo appreciates the offer, but Progo can't take all of them. Please keep a few for yourself, just incase." Well 7 meals in a snack is easier then 10 to digest, and Progo was still sliced and brain shook more then he wanted to admit. He slowly started eating the berries one by one. "So Progo will start inspecting the door for opening methods and unwanted suprises." (If resting, no need for the berries but I assume the want will be to press on)
When talk turns to the opening, the others will likely notice Normont has already wandered over to it, with Maggie by his side. He has sent Amber up onto a tree branch to keep an eye on the group though.
"Those brain dogs are likely scouts and guards, and there may well be more. Whoever is in here likely knows we are coming now, and the way they attacked the mind is a little preview perhaps of what these Illithids are capable of. As for what they do to people, I hope to find Werhann in a condition to elaborate on that, but we need to be quick", he adds ominously.
“You are hurt,” Dev says to Lokilia with concern. “Stay still.” He takes her hands gently in his if she will allow it. Dev’s eyes look inward and glow with a soft yellow light, and he sings under his breath a rising vocalise (Ariel’s magic voice from The Little Mermaid). Lokilia feels the warmth transfer from his fingers to hers and then to her bruises and nicks, healing them in mere seconds (Cure Wounds: heal 17HP).
Dev’s eyes open again and he releases Lokilia’s hands softly. “How’s that?,” he asks his friend, studying her face for any remaining sign of discomfort.
(Given that he wasn't hit, he has no reason not to attack.)
Werhann charges forward. This gives the guards plenty of time to to prepare, but fortunately, head height for the man is much taller than Werhann. Sometimes, it's beneficial to have shorter bones. But still, Werhann just barely manages to evade the man's blade, and the feeling of vulnerability without proper armour is only amplified. He must finiah this quick.
After evading the blade, Werhann swings the heavy axe upwards to slash the man's torso from the bottom up. Despite his exhausted state, the weapon reaponds well. But since when is he even so adept at using such heavy weapons?
Using the same attack, 24 to hit, 10 (magical) slashing damage.
