I have run the classic Elven Crystals campaign for Dragon Warriors ( https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/90926/Dragon-Warriors ) many times and now that my Sleeping Gods Dragon Warriors to 5e Chronicle is still chugging along nicely lets try another.
The campaign is set in the Lands of Legend, think Europe circa 1100s-ish but where sorcery is real though rarely encountered by most folk and fay magic rises with the mists in the dark woods.
This will be a relatively low-magic campaign with a more 'down-to-earth' feel than the standard 5e campaign.
The Lands of Legend are an analogue of our own world in the early European middle ages, it is dripping with folklore, faerie, myth and legend. It has a clearly British feel – down at heel, grim, gritty, horrific in places. No one has nice teeth in Legend, and no one ever wears a chainmail bikini.
Ereworn, on the western coast of Ellesland is a kingdom nestled between Cornumbria ( Wales-ish) to the south, Glissom ( Hebrides-esqe) to the north and the imposing Pagan Mountains to the west.
Ereworn has also been under a Curse for the last 70 years.......
Elves and Dwarves in Legend are not tanned crafters who speak funny. They are the unknowable inhabitants of the Otherworlds, as likely to kill you in passing as marry you and take you away under the hill for 100 years.
Goblins are mean-spirited, twisted and murderous denizens of the Otherworlds slipping through shadows of the darkling forest, where you don’t go at night or you’ll be killed.
Essentially in Legend the beliefs and fears of the medieval European peasant are real.
Character Creation:
- Advancement will be Milestone, and fair warning it will be somewhat slower than average.
- Characters will be Human only with the following caveats:- you are free to use any race you wish to represent said character but they will be human in appearance. ie. if you choose Tiefling the character has a somewhat dubious rumoured heritage but no visible fiendish traits, Elvish/Gnomish/Dwarven and others may represent a Fay blessing on your family line or perhaps one of your Ancestors once visited the Fae Realms, Goliaths may indicate ancient ties to the jotun. Feel free to ask any questions you wish as it is a bit different to normal.
- Clerics we'll take on a case by case basis.

In terms of names Erewornian names tend toward the Irish and Welsh though your Character is free to be an outsider from another nearby land, perhaps Thuland ( Scotland- with lots of coastal Norse settlements), Albion ( England), Glissom or Cornumbria. Coming from further away is possible but unlikely....
Feel free to read some of the setting material at the link above, the DW Corebook is PWYW. Just don't read the adventure for now. ;)
Questions and Queries are encouraged as I know its a little different from usual 5e Settings.
Does the fact that it's a relatively low-magic campaign have any impact on arcane spellcasters? Are there any limitations for those who want to create a character of those classes?

Not particularly. Especially, as mentioned above, advancement will be slower than normal. But feel free to reskin spells to be a bit ' subtler' so as to fit the mileau. I have a Sorceress in the Sleeping Gods campaign and it seems to be working fine......and Ereworn is very much still a strong hold out in terms of older faiths so things are a bit less ' inquisitional ' than certain other regions.
Certain Artificer concepts are going to grate against the setting pretty hard, but I'll try to work with everyone so all are happy.
Backstory: Jack is the lone survivor of a strange plague that wiped out his village. For some reason he was only mildly affected by the strange disease while everyone else suffered strange bumps, high fevers, and bloody vomit.
