Lokilia responds to the lion. "Prey here belongs to ape shapes. We will not give them to you. There is other prey for you. I warn you, we are ferocious." (Animal Handling again: 5)
( That was not a good roll to have right now...even with Guidance that won't beat the threshold.)
The lion turned back towards the camp and sniffed the air, " We take what is within our territory. You are tiny and the horned ones are very large......"
The lion mock-charged a short distance toward the camp, Lokilia could hear the horses and others beginning to panic....
Normont is also a little taken aback as Lokilia starts to communicate using the same sounds they could hear from the darkness, and even more so at the appearance of the two cats.
"Lokilia?", he whispers. "You need to tell us what to do. We will act on your signal if we have to".
He stands very still, with his shield in front of him and pistol in his hand by his side, ready to be called into action.
Normont can hear the camp animals becoming restless and as the lion charges and then pulls itself short he can feel the tension ratcheting up....something was going to snap soon.....
"I'm sorry, they are foolish predators. They mean to take our animals. We'll have to fight them off," Lokilia says, sadness clear in her voice. (Can she tell where the lion is at? Is it within attack range?)
Normont nods to Lokilia, "So be it. Perhaps you could inform the horses that their best chance to survive is to stay put. They appear to be getting skittish and the sound of my pistol going off might send them over the edge if not warned".
With that he points his pistol at the lion who mock-charged and prepares to fire at it or the other one if either gets within his normal range.
Action: Ready fire pistol at any lion that comes within 30ft
(OOC: I am assuming we have tied the horses up when we made camp, but assuming that might not be enough)
A curling half-smile forms on the teen tiefling’s lips while his face, downturned, falls into darkness, displacing in an instant his prior expression of frightened astonishment. Into his pan-pipes the bard releases a single, gentle breath, slow and warm. While the nervous rhythm of the music that swirls close around him continues, a second rhythm – as if the first is parsed and extended, slowed and enlarged – comes into being, throbbing gently through the air toward the lion. The big cat feels hunger, will, and all the sensations of its body slipping away, as if held at a distance, and risks being overcome by the static rhythms of sleep.

( One of the lions is clearly visible some 40' away. The other, that she was speaking with. is currently out of sight though someone with darkvision may spot it some 60' out at 45 degrees from the other.
I'll put off initiative for a little bit as there are still a few ways this might fall out. )

Lokilia moves over to the horses, speaking with them. "I'm so sorry. We'll take care of these predators for you. I know you're scared. But if you just stay here, stay still, we can protect you. There may be some loud scary noises too. That's just us. It won't hurt you. Please trust us."

Lokilia felt the spell fade as she finished talking but got the sense the animals trusted her and the companions and would do their best to try and remain calm.
Not sure this talk is going well, maybe I should throw in some distractions to help our cause, hopefully our animals have been soothed by Lokilia, Magnus thinks as he takes one slow step to the side as he reaches out with his magic touching his chest, Please work.
Suddenly a small fire work goes off in front of the leading cat with a small pop and then a shower of sparks hoping to startle it and chase it away.

Casts Prestidigitation.
( Ok, working off the assumption that Dev is boosting this as discussed. Also Nature- 17 + 4)
As Magnus sets off the dweomer it is far louder and more percussive than he expected, glancing to the side he can see Dev singing softly under his breath.
The massive shaggy cat leaps backward almost comically nothing in its lived experience had prepared it for such a thing, it lands some 15' back from the explosion looking around for other dangers.
An almost questioning rumble-cough issues out of the darkness to the west and the lion rumbles back.
It pauses and regards the assembled companions as the fire reflects in its eyes then suddenly gives a huge all body shake and shudder before turning and moving off into the darkness.....
Normont watches as the lion moves away, but remain alert. He whispers to Amber in Gnomish, "Follow the lion and make sure it doesn't just circle and head back. If it looks like they will come back and attack, fire a blast into the sky to warn us". Amber leaps into the dark sky and takes flight staying just close enough to see the lions with her dark vision.
"We might want to double the watch tonight. I have sent Amber to keep an eye on them regardless", he say to the others as he continues to scan the darkness around the camp.
Sighing in relief Magnus nods his thanks to Dev, "That just might have done it, but I have a feeling none of us will get much sleep tonight. I don't mind taking first watch." Then Magnus will go about helping set up a camp and choosing to place his bedroll right next to the wagon.
(OOC: Apologies, I ought to have posted that Dev assisted Magnus.)
During their watch, Dev asks Magnus to make his sparks again, a bit of magic the tiefling finds mesmerizing. To pass the time, Dev experiments with creating various objects from which sparks might fly, to result in illusions more complicated than he can make by himself. Such as a big magic wand trailing stardust, or the image of a starry sky with a full moon in it, which together looks like shooting stars. "Where does your magic come from? Are your boots magical like my magic shoes, or do you have something like my magic pan pipes that makes your spells work?," he asks Magnus.
Lokilia smiles once it is clear the lion has left. "That was amazing Magnus! And we didn't have to kill those small-minded lions. They should have just believed me when I told them we weren't to be trifled with!" She then mumbles to herself, "Maybe I need to figure out how to be more persuasive to animals."
Before sleep, Lokilia would cast Goodberry three times, collecting the berries into a little pouch. She then gets right to sleep to be up for the final watch with Quinn. The young half-elf pesters him with many questions. She asks about whether he is from Terrah and what it's like there. She would tell him about her home in Zephrah , whether he asks or not. She does though try to keep a sharp eye out for danger.
With the sunrise, and seeing the large winged shape, she would first point it out to Quinn if he'd not seen it. She tries to keep an eye on it for a few minutes, both to see if she can piece together what it might be and second to see what direction it seems to be going. (Perception: 12)

( There is a certain vague 'clumsiness' about its flight but she can make out much more than that, it seems to be headed somewhat south-east in direction...)
Normont asks Amber to maintain her watch throughout the night, and to periodically take a fly around the immediate vicinity to ensure nothing is stirring beyond the other watchers range of vision.
During his own watch, he takes up a position on the wagon to give himself a higher vantage point, and stands alert with his shield and pistol at the ready. With no-one else for company but Amber, conversation is non existent.
In the morning, he looks to get an early start with a quick breakfast for the group and their mounts. Unless Lokilia or Quinn mention the winged creature, it will just be the usual small talk from him.

“Or not.” Dev’s voice is strangely confident.

The lion gave a long slow blink then shook its head seemingly unaffected....and being unaware of what a spell is paid no mind to Dev.
"It's too big," Dev says, his voice carrying, slightly petulantly, to Normont and the others. "I can't... it won't fall asleep."

Quinn breaths with relief as he puts away his blade and climbs back on the wagon.
With no signal from Amber the companions get ready for the night, doubling up on their watches just incase.
Magnus and Dev take first watch, the time passing quickly with no issues to report.
Normont and Amber take the next hearing nought but crickets and bats through their watch.
Lokilia and Quinn take the last, as the sun rises they see a large winged shape in the distant southern sky...too far away to make out any details....
( Feel free to relate any conversations during the watches and preparations for the day of travel ahead.)
