"Indeed, Dev", Normont replies. "Carefully setting fires when there is not much wind or when it is has a favourable direction, ensuring there is nothing flammable in the vicinity that can cause it to spread to areas you don't want. Possibly wetting the ground around the area or barricading it with non flammable material. That sort of thing".
Dev’s expression is skeptical, but he says nothing at first. The teenager feels that when Normont has an idea it’s not his place to object. The gnome possesses the benefits of age, education, and confidence to a degree Dev can never compete with. At least, that’s how he perceives his companion. But after a moment, he can’t hold his tongue any longer.
“I mean… that sounds ummm amazing, Normont. I bet you could really help these folk. But wouldn’t it be like a lot of work, and… organizing? Cuz wouldn’t the people need to be warned, and some people may not be here right now if they’re hunting, and then you have to choose someplace to start a fire where the smoke won’t… I mean, it smelled really bad and what if it makes someone sick… And then how do you know when to put it out, of if it didn’t go according to plan then how do you stop it?… and also, I mean, what’s the point of burning just a little bit of it, cuz the rest will still be dangerous… or we could stay here and do it all, little by little for the next few days or week or however long it takes?
I guess I’m just kind of afraid of fires, but it sounds like you’ve done this before and I can help however you want me to.”
Dev glances at the others, wishing his mouth would stop moving. When it finally does, his eyes slant down accusingly toward his red sequined shoes. ‘It’s your fault I’m going on and on, isn’t it,?’ He thinks.
“You have a keen mind, Dev”, Normont replies. “Everything you say is true. But I merely mentioned we could suggest this as an option to the people here, if they wished to speed up the removal of the Black Ichor. I didn’t intend for us to stay and complete the task ourselves. We have our own mission, and whilst I don’t mind helping devise a plan, I do not wish to become side-tracked”.
He looks to the others, “Shall we return to Ugart, or try and purify some Ichor first?”.
(OOC: Can you confirm that we have been able to switch out prepared spells after the long rest @DM please?)
"Definitely some precautions need to be addressed and passed on to those that will be taking care of it but it appears those in this area will eventually be OK as long as they do not eat any more of this Black Milk, thankfully. We should pass along our knowledge ask if they need any help with anything else and if they want we can pass along the knowledge we learned here to Whitestone when we reach the city. We can ask them to send some more powerful healers out to help if they so wish. If there is anyone in this village that has any magical talent we can possibly teach them some of our more helpful spells like the way I can control a little bit of fire, and bring up a slight breeze to help make sure the clouds from burning the black milk does not go anywhere it should not. Other than that unless we decide to remain for along time here, we do have a missions of some importance to finish up." Magnus suggests.
[OOC: whew, been a minute, lol, damn life getting in the way of me having fun. :) ]
Lokilia nods to Magnus. "I'd like to at least try to purify the water in those pools we passed. I get that we do have other matters. But maybe this at lest will help with the biggest problem."
She glances at Normont. "A fire might be faster. I could maybe help with a touch of air magic in directing fumes. But that would take a lot of time to set up and coordinate."
Dev follows Lokilia. He’d heard of water being purified before. Perhaps ann outbreak of disease in the slums of Drynna had threatened the whole town until one of the clerics had discovered the problem was in the water. Several weeks of purifying it ensued, and soon people started feeling better and the city smelled better too because the sewers weren’t overflowing with terrible filth. Or was that a story he’d read about someplace else? It didn’t matter: Lokilia could effect this cleansing too, on top of her other talents. The teenager’s sense of wonderment was ready for yet another thrill.
"We just need options for the Badgers I think", Normont suggests. "We know fire works, so that is an option for them, let's see if purifying does too. We could purify a mug of the Black Ichor and take it to the warehouse to see if Gundiwr and the others go nuts for it?".
"Ah! A sample to take back. That's a good idea Normont," Lokilia says. "Usually it works to purify water within a certain range. I'd suggest we go to the ponds, get that sample, then see how it works on both ponds and the mug." If nobody has any objections, she heads off to find the spot with the pools of black goo that they had passed.

Lokilia is easily able to trace her steps there and fill a container she picks up as she passes, she disturbs a group of what can only be described as ' squid-bunnys' along the way....they take off into the twitching scrub at speed.
Once back at the pools, Lokilia very carefully fills the container she'd picked up, making sure to not touch it herself. She then sets the filled container on the ground next to the black pond. She picks out a spot where she can make the most of the 5 ft. radius of the magic. Intending to cast this spell as a ritual, she takes her time to trace out the area, invoking the spirits of nature in Druidic to come to see to the cleansing of this water. Her movements are fluid as she paces about, not really a dance, but that is perhaps the closest thing that comes to mind. After a bit more than 10 minutes of this, the ritual is complete. (casting Purify Food and Drink)
When done, she stops, closing her eyes. She mutters a brief thanks to the Wildmother for her aid in Druidic. Lokilia then slowly turns about to inspect the pools around her.

When done, she stops, closing her eyes. She mutters a brief thanks to the Wildmother for her aid in Druidic. Lokilia then slowly turns about to inspect the pools around her.
The shallowest pools around her have faded from a pitch black to a dark tannin colour, others have cleared momentarily but blackness curdles up from further away or begins to trickle in from adjoining pools.
Regardless it seems to have a positive effect at least on these somewhat diluted pools of the Black Milk.
Lokilia is a little disappointed that the results do not seem to stick, but then again, there is probably a lot of this stuff flowing in and seeped into the ground. She checks the container to see how it fared - isolated as it is from other sources. Or at least, she hopes.
Normont finds a container of his own as they make their way to a source of the Black Ichor, and also collects a sample from the very same pool.
After watching Lokilia with rapt attention perform her ritual, and noting how different her power is from his own technological methods of purification. When she is done and examining her container of purified ichor, he comes across and holds his own, un-purified sample alongside it, so they can see the difference.
"Well, it has certainly done something", he says with a smile. "Shall we go and test the results?".
Lokilia gives the water in the container a long look. Finally she turns to nod to Normont. "Yes, let's go see."
There is a bit of disappointment in her voice. Clearly she had hoped the magic would be more definitively helpful. She could repeat the spell ritual many times over, but how many times would it take to really accomplish much. And how long before such an effort exhausted her? She tried to put it out of her mind as they head back to where those affected by the 'Black Milk' were located.
Quinn looks at his party's experiments lost in what is truly happening with the cleansing process. He hopes that they will be successful in this test. Who would benefit from affecting this community? He wonders if this is an accident or a testing ground for something malicious and powerful. What would that do if they found out what we are doing here? Would it cause more pain and anguish for this community in the future? What would a life permanently deformed mean to the afflicted? Would they be even more ostracized from the world?
Many things run through the blank faces Stone Giant's mind but he continues to keep quiet, a practice his people pride themselves in.
During all the experiments Magnus continues to make notes. "Well hopefully the purify test was a success and the affected ones are not drawn to drink this liquid. Then all we might need to do is gather more than can cast this spell and then the area would be rid of this curse. Well done all."
"Indeed, Dev", Normont replies. Possibly wetting the ground around the area or barricading it with non flammable material. That sort of thing".
The companions gather outside the warehouse a little ways away from the guards and discuss their options as the sun rises higher into the sky....

Quietly they enter....
