The field is strewn with the dead, human men-at-arms, high elves, demons, and cultists. It appears that the force of humans and elves fought a battle to breach the line of fiends, but were defeated. Now a large number of their remains are scattered across the field.
As you move across the field, the concealing smoke clears away to see a line of humans and fiends facing you on the opposite corner. To your left is a group of cultists, who start to bang their swords against their armor. Behind them appear to be a group of high elves, similar to those who lay dead upon the field. Except, there appears to be a purplish glow about them. In the center, a great winged demon with a two headed axe is waiting, with a group of the same demons you just fought in the village. Then on your right, is a group of men-at-arms, but there is a reddish glow to them, and they appear more undead than human.
In the center stands a man in fine clothes, with a knight in dark armor next to him. The man strides out onto the field near the line of bodies and call out to you.
"Here me heroes! My master and mistress say it is enough. This is their land now, begone! Return to your homes and await your impending doom. Face them here and now, and you shall perish!"
(OOC: Where is the party on this map? Vrox was planning to advance to the nearest dead bodies but only if Khessa's brother-bat could not spot any living demons or cultists. Does that mean that the whole party is grouped together somewhere off the northwest side of this map?)
Clarac surveys the battlefield on foot, carefully stepping over the bodies of the fallen. 'These warriors fought honorably, but some of them seem to have lost their honor,' she thinks, looking at the two crowds by the demons. 'Or perhaps they are cursed?' "Why do you suppose those strange men and elves seem to have switched sides?" she whispers to Lord Akkron, who is, at the very least, knowledgeable and nearby.
Once they have been seen, Clarac feels comfortable stepping forward. 'This evil knight's announcement cannot go without a response.' Clarac draws her sword, points it at the man, and shouts back in a voice that rings out loud and clear over the battlefield, "Your masters are mistaken, vile worm, on two counts! First, they do not own this land, for it has not yet been abandoned. Can you not see its defenders here before you? Some have fallen, yes, but I am here, and I am not alone. And even if we all should perish, as you presuppose, there would be more to take our place, which brings me to the second error of your masters: There is no other 'home' to which we can retreat, for this world itself is our home. Facing off here or elsewhere makes no difference in the grand scheme. Nevertheless, we will not 'begone!' Indeed, in the name of justice and expedience, we will instead destroy you here and now, and your masters next." Clarac looks at the cultists and continues, "Now, to address you fellows who have cast your lot with the demons, it is not too late for you; surrender now, and . . ."
Clarac will continue talking indefinitely and without interruption, until one of her companions stops her or a fight breaks out. 'If I can keep the enemy's attention, perhaps I can give the others some time to prepare to attack,' she thinks.
OOC: If Clarac can somehow keep it up for ten minutes, she'll use her Inspiring Leader feat to give all the PCs 26 temporary hit points, but somehow I doubt she will have that much time.

Looking over the field, Sparhawk takes in the carnage. "Those men-at-arms and knights belonged to Duke Almos whose lands this once belonged to, now I fear he has been corrupted. That one in the middle, that is his son, Prince Makova. Those high elves are from Eldamar, they must have responded to something to draw them here and do battle with these demons and dark souls."
Robert growls and bows up when he sees the prince. "He is like me, a day walker, except the transformation must have been successful, I don't sense a soul in him. He has completely given himself over to these dark corrupters!"
(OOC: Where is the party on this map? Vrox was planning to advance to the nearest dead bodies but only if Khessa's brother-bat could not spot any living demons or cultists. Does that mean that the whole party is grouped together somewhere off the northwest side of this map?)
(OOC: Perfect! The grid is 24x23 squares. Assuming 5' squares, Vrox can hang out at the top-left corner of the map and still be in his longbow's short range, 150', of nearly everything on the map.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Pre-combat: Vrox
Initiative: 12
As soon as Prince Makova starts talking, Vrox crouches low and moves 20' to the east, looking for a hiding spot a little ways away from the others (in case the opponents have a spellcaster who's about to drop a Fireball on the party). He prefers a hiding spot that also provides at least half-cover (a large tree, a boulder, etc.). From his hiding spot, he quietly sends a Message to Khessa, saying, "I'm ready to target the Bloodletters or any spellcasters. Just waiting for you or Akkron to strike."
Movement: 20' east, moving stealthily Action: cast Message at Khessa Bonus Action: Hide - Stealth36 (using Vanish feature) Free Action: Object interaction - taking his longbow out of his Quiver of Ehlonna
"Great! Let's get this party started" Khessa replies in the way the magic allows.
[[ OOC: ... and as soon as she is up, she will unleash her magic. If we manage to act before them, grouped as they are, Fireballs and similar spells (with large Area Of Effect) should work wonders. ]]
"My guess would be that they have been transformed into wights or similar undead," Akkron whispers back to Clarac. "Most likely a variety that is intelligent but not free-willed. My suggestion would be to hit them with all the holy spells and smites that you can. You're probably doing them a favor."

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Khessa passes the Death Lance to Alfred, behind her, and instead wields her faithful Staff Of Power, sprinting towards the center of the battlefield, while the faithful construct remains behind her to help her defend herself .
As soon as she arrives there, the blonde arcane warrior points her powerful staff at the dense array of opponents and releases an icy vortex of cold that hits half of them!
[[ OOC: Khessa moves 30', reaching the new position, then uses 5 charges of her staff to unleash a Cone Of Cold. I have drown the 60' cone on the map - 60' = 12 squares. It is the black triangle, because I checked, area is intended to be that way, it is not a section of a circle as I thought. As you can see, half of the enemies are hit: cultists, high elves, prince, knigth and about half of the demons. Khessa evaluates the damage dealt, because if there are many enemies that seem to be about to collapse after the Cone Of Cold, she may decide to use Action Surge to unleash another spell and finish them off... ]]
[[ OOC: Please move Vrox west about 35' and then right to the top of the map. Basically, he should be straight north of the big, winged demon, just about to fall off the top side of the map. That should still keep him > 20' from the others and in range of everything we can currently see.
We were more centered on the map than I thought. The original position for Vrox put him a little closer to the enemies than he wanted to be. ]]
While Clarac responds to Prince Makova, Vrox gets ready to attack. He casts Swift Quiver, nocks an arrow, and draws his bow. He'll ready an attack in case anyone goes before the next round.
[[ OOC: It's not clear to me whether Khessa used her Cone of Cold on the same round that Khessa was speaking or whether that starts in the next round. ]]
Movement: None. Remain hidden. Action: Ready an attack on the knight in dark armor with Dragon's Wrath Longbow (150/600), rolling the attack with advantage because he's presumably an unseen attacker based on the previous Stealth roll Readied attack: 25 Damage: 9 (magical piercing) + 4 (radiant) + Unable to parse dice roll. (psychic) = Unable to parse dice roll. (total) Trigger: when anyone in his party or any of the opponents start the fight (cast a spell, fire a bow, make a melee attack) Bonus Action: Cast spell (LVL 5 slot) Swift Quiver on his mundane quiver Free Action: Item interaction: draw an arrow
