When Lozak approaches, Ashtar gives him a slight nod, stepping back (Also dragging Pan with him) to give the tiefling the spotlight. He cocks his head slightly when the bard asks for a mule team and a cart rather than horses, but otherwise his expression doesn't change. "Haha! A fine plan indeed Lozak! Now Miss Megan can rest in the carriage rather than having to worry about steering an animal!"
He turns his grin on the dwarf, "Yes! I can drive this craft!"
Glancing towards Violet when she asks for a pony, he says, "Haha! Like Nakane said some day we will find you a steed. Perhaps we can acquire one after our quest is complete!"
Nodding to the druid, he bends down grabbing Pan under the arms, then carries the halfling over to the cart and sets him in the back. "Those who ride inside! You may want to keep an eye on him." He does not elaborate why, as he knows that the others are aware of the halfling's explosive tendencies....
After placing Pan in the cart, he does a quick walk around, making sure that the vehicle is in working order and that the mules are hooked up correctly. Not that he thinks the dwarf would give them faulty tack or anything, it's just part of his routine. Once satisfied, he grabs the reins and leaps into the driver's seat. "Now if everything is in order! Let us be off! To Fernwood!"
Once everyone is inside the cart, and he makes sure Lozak actually pays the dwarf, the genasi makes two sharp clicks with his tongue signalling the mules to start walking.
In their travels Ashtar has figured out the right amount of drunk that the halfling has to be, to either put up with or simply not notice that he is being carried, otherwise the little man is a whirlwind of grumpy claws. At this point he is too far gone to even notice or remember that they've left the bar. He snoozes on the floor of the carriage, face down with a rapier double his size poking out from a sheath by his shoulders.
The dwarf tentatively leans forward and touches one of the tentacles, very briefly. Then exclaims, "Oh! Madge will never believe this! Not in a million years." And he shakes his head as he heads back to close up shop, not really hearing Nekane.
The stablehand watches as Ashtar walks around the carriage with an eyebrow raised and leaning on his shovel. He waits as everyone climbs aboard and waves you all off as you depart out the East Gate.
Megan, getting comfortable in the carriage and yawning loudly, looks down to Pan and asks anyone who'll answer, "Is he always like that?"
Megan falls asleep instantly once you all get moving on the road. Some of you doze, while others keep a look out. Ashtar is able to keep up a good pace with the mules as they head on down the road towards Fernwood.
Those looking out of the carriage see a lot of motion in the brush, more than usual....
And suddenly you're all surrounded. They weren't quiet about it, so you're not surprised, but there are now six bandits surrounding your carriage, four humans and two hobgoblins. The four humans are within 30', while the hobgoblins are about 45' away.
Megan immediately hits the ground and curls up into a fetal position.
The hobgoblin warlord that is wearing plate armor, pulls out a couple of javelins and throws them at Ashtar. They both fly through the air, one after another and thunk thunk hit their target hard. (23 dam)
Nekane reacts quickly, taking a protective stance, putting himself between the enemies and Megan. He crouches low, tail lashing and his mouth curled into a half smile half snarl as his eyes lock onto the hobgoblin.
In infernal he says, "Armor makes a good oven..." But does his best to make it sound threatening as he casts Heat Metal (level 4) on the warlord's lovely plate armor. (16dmg) He grins as the hobgoblin's armor heats up, turning almost the same pale color as Nekane's skin.
Pan grumbles and shifts, waking up to the sound of shouting and fighting, "fight?" He looks around groggily wiping his eyes, "fight!" He realises excitedly.
Jumping up, he stumbles out of the carriage, he simultaneously draws his rapier and enters a rage, in which his hands crack and extend forming claws and his forms a fruit muzzle with sharp fangs.
Running up to the first lone hostile he sees he gives the rapier a swing, (14 to hit, 9 slashing damage) then he takes two swipes with his claw, laughing heartily as he does. But his drunken state is clearly inhibiting him as he misses both strikes (2 and 11 to hit)
The heat from Nekane's spell is almost too much for the warlord to bear. He cries out in agony as he can't get away from the heat (failed CON).
The other hobgoblin lifts up his quarterstaff, mumbles a few words and an ice storm descends upon the carriage, aimed to include Pan as well (8 bludgeoning dam, 10 cold dam - DEX save DC 13, half if saved). The radius of 20' is difficult terrain until the end of the hobgoblin's turn.
The bandit Pan was attempting to hit, Bandit A, retaliates, missing with his first slash of his scimitar, but critting deep with his second (13 dam). He then stabs with his dagger and misses.
Bandit C comes up behind Lozak and drives his scimitar deep in his back. Removing his scimitar, he slashes again, slicing across his chest as Lozak turns, then using his dagger, he hits him in the shoulder. (25 dam)
Ashtar, still holding the reins looks down at the two javelins protruding from his chest. Well, those will be in the way when I go to swing my sword. He thinks lightheartedly as he looks back up, to see an icestorm swiftly approaching. In one quick motion, the genasi drops the reins and leaps off the side of the carriage. With only a slight bit of frost catching his right side, he barely hesitates to break off the ends two javelins with two swift strikes of his fist. He barely grimaces too, probably due to the fact that that chilling spell had numbed the wounds for him.
Only a few seconds after knocking off the javelins, he draws the massive sword from it's scabbard on his back, fiery eyes locked onto the goblin warlord. "Haha! What fools are you to attack us!" He laughs, seemingly unfazed by the blood and frost on his chest. "You have made a grave mistake, and now you shall meet the flames of my blade! IGNITE!" As soon as the words leave his lips, flames spring forth crawling, and crackling playfully along the black blade. Still smiling Ashtar rushes the Goblin and slashes twice with the flaming sword.
Attack 1 (To hit 24) (damage 12) Attack 2 ( to hit 9) (Damage 19)
His first strike hits hard and strong, maybe even denting the goblins preheated armor, however his second strike glances off the swiftly cooling metal.
Bandits B and D engage in the battle, B running up beside Violet in the carriage and D running up beside Nekane. Whether or not the ice storm has helped them, each of their attacks with their scimitars and daggers find purchase in the two adventurer's spraying blood all over the carriage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Hey! That wasn't very nice, Mr. Bandit!" Violet shouts indignantly.
But then she giggles.
"You know, if you win I'm pretty sure you can sell me to an eccentric noble for a very healthy profit... don't forget to tie me up nice and tight first, though... and you'll need a lot of blindfolds. A live beholder could be dangerous otherwise... Oh... and of course you'll actually have to win first, so there is that... best of luck!"
With that, Violet proceeds to cast tasha's mind whip at 4th-level to hit bandits B, C, and D simultaneously with beams of psychic power, dealing 12, 15, and 9 psychic damage to each one (respectively) on a failed DC 17 Int save (half-damage on success). If they fail, they also loose their reaction and must choose between an action, move, or bonus action on their next turn.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Lozak isn't even remotely paying attention when things kick off. One minute he's on a peaceful ride in the tour bus, thinking to those glory days of coke and hoes, and the next thing he knows Ashtar has two javelins sticking out of his chest and then some ******* stabs him in the back.
"Hey!" Lozak whimpers as he tries to distance himself from his attacker. He pulls his guitar up across his chest as he turns to face the bandit and strums a quick cord. The powerful blast of shredded sound flies forward toward Bandit C before Lozak's fingers begin to dance up and down the fretboard. "No one hits me from behind without buying me dinner first!"
Suddenly, Ashtar, Pan, and Violet all feel invigorated...
Action: Eldritch Blast (Bandit C): 20 to hit, 4 damage- If it hits, Bandit C is knocked backwards 10 feet
Bonus Action: Bardic Inspiration for Ashtar, Pan, and Violet (1d8 for the next 10 minutes for one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw)
Bandit B stares at the beholderkin. The giggling throws him off a bit, then listening to what she has to say, he turns towards the Eastern hobgoblin, "Do we uh, have a lot of blindfolds?"
But as Violet sends out her possibly devastating mind whip, all three of them are steeled against it and look at her with a more murderous glare.
Bandit C just has enough time to guffaw at Lozak's comment and is thrown back by the tiefling's eldritch blast.
The warlord smiles as Ashtar runs at him. Using his longsword, it finds purchase across the genasi's chest in both swipes. (16 dam). But then he uses his shield to try and bash him, but Ashtar spins aside and it misses.
Nekane growls quietly as he dodges most of the frost attack, only to take a bigger hit from one of the bandits. Fortunately, he is just able to maintain his concentration. "Well that hurt," he says gruffly. Fixing the bandit with a stare, he just barely hears Violet giving her opponent ideas before blasting them with her own attack. As the three bandits glare at the beholderkin, Nekane starts chuckling, which gradually becomes a menacing laughter as his form begins to shift. Soon, Bandit D is staring down the snout of a giant laughing hyena.
Pan rights himself from his wobble and slashes out with his rapier once more at bandit A, this time with a little more success (21 to hit, 13 piercing dam) and then wildly slashing out twice with a claw. (14 to hit, bardic used, 11 slashing. And 15 to hit, 9 slashing)
If the man is felled pan would use his bonus action to pull the hood up on his cloak and Hide, moving towards the Spellcaster, 35ft through the horses legs and out the other side.
Bandit D's eyes grow wide as he looks down at the now giant hyena.
Pan's rapier pierces the man right through the thigh, but only his second claw attack hits, drawing blood. He is not felled, but the bandit is bloodied.
The caster singles out Ashtar, Pan and Lozak as the targets he can see the best and sends a scorching ray off towards each of them. The first one streaks at Ashtar and using the hobgoblin's arcane advantage, Ashtar is seared with 16 fire damage.
The ray that he sends towards Pan misses, but the one that he sends to Lozak hits the Tiefling, giving him 5 fire damage.
Bandit A retaliates against the halfling, his first slice of the scimitar hits, the rest missing Pan (9 dam)
Bandit C runs back to the carriage and in his annoyance for being pushed back by Lozak, he attacks the man viciously, each hit landing solidly, both with the scimitar and then with his dagger. (13 dam)
Ash grunts when the armored Hobgoblin warlord slashes his already bloodied chest, he manages to avoid the shield bash only to be hit by the casters flames. (Fire resistance so only 8 damage) Not bothering to put out the flames, he tightens his grip on the flaming sword. "Haha! So you like to play with fire?! Sit tight while I finish this fight and I'll show you some real flames!" The genasi exclaims glancing in the caster's direction, smile still on his face despite the blood dripping from his chest.
Refocusing on the warlord, Ashtar swings his sword twice more. His first hit slashes upward, attempting to slash the vital vein in the armpit where the armor is weak. As he swings the flames seem to pulse gold. (25 to hit. 16damage + 8 divine smite 1st level) Landing the blow, he stumbles slightly. Catching himself he places his left hand on his chest. If he goes on as he is he may not last much longer. (Cure wounds 2nd level 12hp)
The hobgoblin warlord takes the hit hard, audibly breathing harder afterwards. As Ashtar looks, he can see the creature is now bloodied.
Bandit B give violet a peculiar look, then shakes his head and attacks her with his scimitar and dagger. Unsure if her teasing is affecting the man or not, but every attack nails the poor beholderkin, slicing through the eyestalk tendrils. (20 dam)
Bandit D looks at the giant hyena, then bolstering his courage attacks the creature with his scimitar and dagger. Each stab finds purchase within the beasts fur, drawing blood. (19 dam)
Violet gasps in pain as the bandits rapid-fire attacks slice at her sensitive eyes... and she is genuinely unnerved by the realization that he somehow shrugged off the effects of her mind whip as if it was nothing... and she doubts she'll survive a third vicious assault.
She casts dissonant whispers on Bandit D, dealing 8 psychic damage and forcing him to use his reaction to flee as far as his movement will allow on a failed DC 17 Wis save (half damage on success) in the hopes of giving Lozak the space he needs to do... well... whatever it is that Lozak does. She uses 1 sorcery point to cast it as a subtle spell so that the bandits don't realize she just cast a spell.
"Okay... I'm sorry!" Violet squeaks to Bandit B, genuinely scared at this point. "I couldn't just go without trying to fight back... but... I... I surrender, please don't hit me any more!"
She does her best to appear totally compliant to the bandit, while cowering behind the carriage door for protection against further attacks. (Persuasion... 11. After Bardic Inspiration. FML)
She uses her bonus action to establish a telepathic link with Lozak which will last for 8 minutes (via Telepathic Speech class feature, this does allow two-way communication) and sends him a message.
With a bit of luck we might be able to get these guys to do half our job for us by telling them the playhouse is full of treasure... and if not, well, I should still be able to help you guys while he's busy dealing with me by shooting a few subtle spells into the fray, and I assume they're smart enough not to harm a valuable prisoner, so that should keep me relatively safe.
