Malvyn can't help but smile to himself as he finds the purple-haired dreamer sleeping again. He shoots Piero a sharp look at his derisive comment but says nothing, instead taking a seat by the oracle to gently wake her up, something he has gotten quite used to the last weeks. "We are finished with Professor Sharpbeak now Mei. I am going over to the Firejolt cafe to see Mina Lee, you can come of course, or you can go back to sleep if you prefer." He says softly with warm smile. "Did you find anything out yet?"
"We can certainly spilt up."He then turns and says to Piero, letting everyone decide what they want to do next before proceeding to the Firejolt Cafe or anywhere he would be likely to find Mina Lee at this hour.
Mei inhales sharply and lifts her head from the gutter between pages, blinking away the dredges of sleep. She smiles at Malvyn, then sees what she’s writing and scribbles over it.
“Ah—ha! Yes! I mean, oh… no, not really,” she answers, flipping groggily through her notes with a yawn. “I think that, um… I didn’t do a very good job explaining what I needed. It’s all sort of,” she gesticulates at the books before beginning to put them away, “um, general information?”
“I’ll go with you, if that’s alright?” she asks, her eyes drifting towards Piero before focusing on Malvyn again. “I don’t think the books we need are in the…” her voice lowers, “public section.”
Guardok'sinsight doesn't tell him a whole lot about Piero. But it does seem he was annoyed by the Earth Genasi touching him.
PIero seems a bit curious as he sees Mei quickly scribble through her notes. "Didn't find anything in these books?" he says, a bit rhetorically. He takes a moment to glance at the titles, and peer at the pages of the open book. He glances back as Malvynand Meiindicate they would be headed to the Firejolt Cafe. "So you think there's nothing in these books?" he asks, looking to Mei. "I guess if you're going to go running off, I'll just stay and glances through these books."
Maehad made it to the Bow's End and settled in to working the start of her shift. The place is starting to get a little bit filled, although not nearly as much as on a weekend. The first performers have just taken the stage. The Aasimar can't help but note that several of the conversations she overhears include bits about the event with the frogs at the Firejolt Cafe earlier. There are a few whispered comments about the valiant students that fought off the monsters. She even catches a description of what must be her, but thus far nobody has seemed to connect the hero of Firejolt to the waitress here with them at the tavern.
Mei’s cheeks puff indignantly and she silently mimes “these books,” before twisting in her chair to look up at Piero.
“I-I didn’t say there was nothing in them,” she quietly defends, sliding the texts slightly away from him with a pout. “J-Just that I’d been hoping for something more, um… specific to arcane corruption and spell distortion. But it might fall under the—” she glances around and lowers her voice again “—‘forbidden magic’ territory.”
She shifts awkwardly—nervously—in her seat and plays with the frayed fabric of the hole over her thigh from the bite. ”But I was also thinking I could, well...” she hedges, more to Guardok and Malvyn, “try and… Dream about what happened? I’ve never tried to search for something in them before, but that’s…m-most Dreamers can.” Her fingers drift self-consciously to her deck with a hapless smile, “The good ones at least.”
The purple-skinned Tiefling gives Piero a cold glare at his comment to Mei. "Yes, by all means, stay here and read, I believe we can manage without your insightful comments for just a while, eventhough they are of course always most appreciated, you will no doubt find all the answers we seek in those books." He says quite dryly, having had enough of Piero's attitude for now. "We'll reconvene back at the lounge later."He adds, then turning to leave for the Firejolt Cafe, gently tugging the oracle to follow to not get into an argument.
"I think you are quite right Mei, we would most likely do much better if we had access to restricted texts, I promise I will look into that later." He says in an encouraging tone to the dreamer as they have left the Biblipolex. "And I hope you will dream well too, to find some guidance with our investigation I mean." He adds with a small smile, then looking to see that Guardok is with them too.
Guardok is still a little taken aback by Piero's attitude towards his friendly gesture, but when Mei starts talking about using her dreams to search for answers his interest is piqued. He follows after Mei and Malvyn.
"Maybe we should head back to Dresar Hall and you can try a dream search, Mei?", he suggests. "I was thinking I might go and see if dinner is being served, we could grab some food first. Or I can meet you in the lounge later if you aren't ready to head back yet".
Mei stretches to grab her bag from the table as she’s tugged away, quickly wishing Piero good luck before she glances curiously up at Malvyn.
Over her shoulder, she nods at Guardok with a knowing smile—he’s a growing genasi after all. “We could do that too—dinner, I mean! I was actually thinking I might try and Dream at midnight? That’s—well it’s… seers call it the Witching Hour. Some magic traditions say the Snarls are most active during that time. Which makes it easier to connect to their mana.”
“And I thought maayybbee, if I tried to Dream at the pond, I’d be more likely to pick up any residual echoes or… ripples? B-But you guys don’t have to come! I know that’s late and it’s cold and it might not even work so…”
Mae busies herself with her work, or at least tries to, as the snippets of conversation she picks up from time to time in the tavern remind her of the strange and mildly frightening even earlier that day. After a couple of remarks seem to allude to her presence there she blushes slightly and quickly ducks away so as to do her best to avoid any unnecessary questioning. She does ponder the event though some; why would someone make frogs do that? Was it just some prank gone wrong? If there was a connection between that and the animated trunk they had experienced earlier, what was the connection? Despite her wandering mind, she also kept a lookout for her fellow entertainer, perhaps desiring such a distraction in her darker performance.
Pierohardly gives a glance to Meias he replies. "I did say I would take a look at them. Perhaps they will suggest something." He starts to thumb through one of the tomes. "I merely asked whether you thought there was nothing, since you were abandoning them to go speak with others."He then returns back to examining the book, not even replying to Malvyn. The trio prepares to head out. (OOC - To Dresar Hall or to try to find Mina?)
At the Bow's End, it is still a bit early, though the first act of the evening is taking the stage to sing. It's a young elf singing and playing a lyre. His music has a bit of a folk style to it, fairly soft and simple. One of the instances where Maeducks away from the crowd for a moment, she finds Javenish coming up beside her. "Hey, how are you doing tonight?" the strong Owlin asks. "You seem a bit distracted tonight. Hmm, you were at the Firejolt earlier?"
Mae continues to hear snippets here and there about the frog incident, but many the topics must seem to shift to myriad other things. It is roughly an hour until Aurora typically arrives to prepare for her performance.
"Camping out at the pond at midnight sounds like a lot of fun", Guardok says excitedly before heading off to get dinner back at the hall, regardless of whether Malvyn and Mei are joining him.
Mae looked a bit startled at first when Javenish approached her, clearly distracted some. "Oh! I'm sorry!" She blushed a little, "Um, yes, I was there, but please don't say anything to anyone! It was rather awful!"She then scurried off to continue working as quickly as she could without being rude to Javenish. Mae didn't mind the other performers really, she'd rather be here than most places perhaps, and was doubly glad when conversations began to move away from the unfortunate incident earlier that day. She couldn't help but try to make eye contact with Aurora when she finally saw her arrive, and give her a smiling nod as she continued about her duties.
Realizing what time it is, Malvyn also realizes that the Firejolt cafe is already closed. "Yes, I'll come too."The purple-skinned tiefling says with an excited smile to Mei and Guardok, his tail swaying slightly back and forth. "The cafe is closed but I can try to find Mina Lee tomorrow. I'm supposed to collect Aurora at her dorms to take her to the tavern soon though, but I can meet up with you both later by the pond."He suggests, scratching his neck and seeming a tiny bit awkward mentioning meeting up with the raven-haired performer.
"Ooohh, that's very sweet of you," Mei gushes, leaning forward to peek up at the tiefling's face. "Earlier too! When you went to check on her after everything." Not even a certain green-haired half-elf or red-haired announcer had done the same, though the hurt was dulled by Mae's warmth--both her healing and encouragement. With a light tease, she smiles up at her classmate, "You really are a romantic at heart, Mal," though it fades slightly as she thinks of Mae.
Vaguely recalling her approaching Aurora and Rubina after the frog-cident, then seeing Malvyn approach them as well, Mei is sure it had been soon after that Maeleve left without a word. There's some tension on her brow as she quietly asks, "Are things getting, um... serious between you two?" ((Happy to continue this convo in spoilers or DMs if the others would prefer to move on!))
Once back at the dorms, Mei checks in on Knap then seems to finally realize how filthy she is, quickly scurrying away for a bath with an apology to Guardok for not going down to dinner with him.
She sits in the water long after its cooled, her fingertips pruned and small frame shivering. More than once she'd nodded off and each time a nose full of water had been a rude awakening.
Eventually, she exits the bath and takes out an old, faded journal from home. Her mother's handwriting greets her like a pair of open arms on its crinkled pages and she flips through to the extensive notes on Dreamweaving. It's a tradition far beyond Mei's current ability--and the one she's here to prepare for--but that she hoped, all the same, she might be able to do tonight.
“Oh hey, Mei. Sorry I had to dash away after all the excitement. Needed some time with the shrubs to bring myself back down.” Knap says as he slowly potters around 4th floor, watering can in one hand and a book on magical physiologies in the other. Frogs, frogs, frogs, he can’t stop thinking about frogs and tricky transmutation magic. He drizzle water from the can and his druidcraft gently nudges the night flowers awake. Their scent drifting through the hall.
"Great, be careful getting to Aurora's dorm though. And if you see anything odd, don't get too close", Guardok replies to Malvyn when he says he will see them at the pond later. "I will try and convince Knapp to come along too, I bet he is great when it comes to camping".
As Mei questions Mavlyn about how serious things are getting with Aurora, he waits quietly wondering at the answer himself. He also doesn't want to leave Mei to make her way back to Dresar Hall on her own.
Once back at Dresar Hall, Guardok parts company with Mei, having offered to collect some food for her as she wanted to head back to her room straight away. Once in the refectory, he loads up a plate and grabs a drink, before he takes a look around to see if there is anyone he knows to sit with.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Oh, just trying to be polite and considerate."The purple-skinned tiefling responds, trying to sound casual about it but there is clearly a hint of a blush on those purple cheeks, a blush that only brightens as the dreamer suggests there would be something romantic about it all. She was probably right of course, he tried at least, but he was still so very unused to even be around people that accepted him, much less saw him as anyone that would know the first thing about being romantic.
"I'm not sure what would be considered serious but I have seen her frequently these last weeks, mostly taking her to the tavern and enjoying her performance there...and then taking her back again." The tiefling hesitates slightly before saying the last part as if unsure of what to say there.
Malvyn then turns to Guardok, possibly relieved to change the subject slightly. "Thank you my friend, I will be careful but I doubt there will be more incidents today. And yes, check with Knap and Mae will you, could be a nice thing to do together."He adds with a small smile. "I will find you later, either back at Dresar hall or by the pond, but you can count on me." He finishes before giving Mei and Guardok a small wave, then heading off towards Aurora's dorm, the genasi's warning still on his mind, his fiery red eyes glancing about as he walks briskly to make it in time.
Malvyn makes his way to Aurora's dorm, where she is quickly out to meet him with her hurdy gurdy in hand. The two make their way to the Bow's End Tavern and soon step inside. The place is moderately full - typical for this time of night on a weekday.
Javenish starts to reply to Mae, "It's nothing to be sorry about. I..." He lets his words trail off as the Aasimar quickly moves away and has returned to her work. It isn't long before she notices Aurora coming in, with Malvyn right at her side. She seems to catch Mae'slook, giving her a brief nod. Aurora then looks to the Tiefling next to her. "A table not far from the stage Mal? And of course a few drinks before I have to get up on stage!"
Meiand Guardokdo not take too long to reach Dresar Hall and soon run into Knapthere. Meiheads off for her bath, Knaptakes care of watering the plants, and Guardokgoes down to eat. Once the Genassi has his plate, his search almost seems to come up empty. At the last moment he notices Lesviel. The Elf appears to be eating a light meal by herself at a small table near one of the windows.
"Yes, I could use a glass to relax after today's events." The purple-skinned Tiefling admits, seeming a bit weary but giving Aurora a quck smile, then setting out for their usual table near the stage from where he was used to enjoy the raven-haired performer's hauntingly beautiful music, each night taking him on a new emotional journey. He gives Mae a bright smile and a small wave as he sees her, considering inviting her over to join them but realizing she is probably working. Malvyn would politely hold out the chair for Aurora, offering her a seat and as they both are seated he would try to get the attention of one of the serving staff to order their ususal drinks but also ordering something for himself to eat. "So, what are your thoughts on today's incident at the cafe? It has to be connected to the weird thing that happened in the Biblioplex on orientation day right?" He then says to the raven-haired performer as he finally tries to relax, leaning back in his chair.

Guardok tries to determine why Piero gives him that look, and why he is in a bad mood in general.
