Knap softly respond to Guardok. “Magical disguise, of course, that’s what I meant. Ha! You’d think me aceing the exams was all luck. Sorry, my thoughts have been plenty slippery of late, shapeshifty almost. All good, we’ll get to the bottom of this.”
"Well, such a spell is just an illusion. It would likely be noticed by someone," the half-elf quickly responds. "I suppose they could get away with it for a bit. There are no active wards that I know of." The gnome quickly pipes in, "I've heard professors can detect most spells though when there's an exam. So, there must be ways of detecting such things."
The gnome does continue around the building entirely, coming back to the doors where you had exited originally. "I'm not picking up anything. But again, it's only a limited range. If the sample were taken out of the building, I wouldn't get anything. Or I guess if it was destroyed."
"Yes, whoever took it most likely destroyed it."The purple-skinned tiefling concurs. "Thank you for your help, we should let you get back to the lab now." He continues with a grateful smile.
"Agreed, you have been really kind to help us out like this, thanks", Guardok says with a broad smile. "I guess it is time we head back then, unless you want to chat to Mina, Mal?".
"Yes, a chat with Mina, it will be quick I think. I doubt she is in any way responsible for this but she might still shed some light on what really happened at the Bow's End tavern." The purple-skinned tiefling says and starts walking towards the Firejolt Cafe where he hopes to find the silver-haired barista.
The half-elf and gnome women nod as you ready to leave. "It was no problem helping you out," the half-elf says. "I'd be great to know what you find out. I mean, if you figure stuff out," the gnome adds. "Heh, although probably don't have time for us. Best of luck!" The two head back into the building, presumably back to their lab.
The group of Malvyn, Guardok, and Knap continue on to the Firejolt Cafe. It's not hard to find Mina behind the barista counter.
"Hi Mina!"Malvyn says to the silver-haired barista with a wide smile, unintentionally letting his sharp fangs show a bit. "Do you have a moment?" He asks, although not really waiting for a reply. "You remember last night when you came to the Bow's End tavern to listen to Aurora and Mae? Do you recall if you ever went into the kitchen area then?"
With not much of a crowd at the cafe, Mina gives a nod. "Sure Malvyn." She listens to his question, then shakes her head. "No. I was at the table the whole evening. Not much rain for me to be anywhere near the kitchen." She gets a look of curiosity, and asks, "Why do you ask? Kind of an odd question."
"Yes, apologies, I should explain. I assume you recall there was an incident in the kitchen area. Apparently someone fitting your description was seen there earlier in the night and I was just thinking that if it was in fact you then you might have seen something of significance. It might have been a mistake of course but do you by any chance know any others at the Silverquill college that has silvery hair that might have been there last night?" Malvyn asks with a polite smile.
Mina laughs. "Let me get my list of silver-haired Silverquill students for you! Hmm, it is not hugely common to have silvery hair, but I think there are a couple others of us in the Silverquill college. Can't say I say any of them last night." She thinks on it a moment then continues. "No, not that I recall. But that is an interesting question you ask. Do you have some sort of lead?"
"Well, the person responsible for the incident was most likely present in the kitchen area earlier in the evening, but the only one anyone remembers is a silver-haired Silverquill student. To be clear I don't for a moment think you would have anything to do with this, more likely we are dealing with someone who can change their appearance, and in this case I'm afraid that someone might have decided to use yours. Knowing we're delaing with such a person narrows down our search a little bit at least and we know what to expect now. I doubt we have seen the last of this, I get the sense our prankster is just warming up. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to write about this quite yet though."The purple-skinned tiefling says. "Anyway, I should let you get back to your work and I should go studying."He adds with a small but friendly smile.
"Hmm, interesting," Mina says. "What makes you think it's a disguise and not just someone else with silver hair?" she asks. "Although I guess if someone were behind all these things they'd want to stay hidden." She then glances over at the others working behind the counter and the small line waiting for orders. "Yes Malvyn, I probably should get back to work! Let me know if you learn anything more. Sounds like an interesting story - when the time is right to publish it."
She heads back over to take an order from the next student in the line, leaving the three of you free to decide where to go to next.
The purple-skinned tiefling gives Mina Lee a smile and a small wave before leaving the cafe, heading back to Dresar Hall, reporting to anyone interested what the silver-haired barista had said.
(No more investigative measures for now, feel free to progress the story :-)
The end of the week brings a couple of days for a little bit of studying, perhaps some fun or relaxation, and also a number of extracurricular activities.
Mae: While still a couple weeks off, the Strixhaven Show Band Association has its first big show of the year coming up. This weekend and coming week have a handful of extra practices coming up to prepare. The first is a practice with your section. Then next week an extra full band rehearsal.
Guardok: Zanther had just recently announced that next weekend your group will have an actual competion! Another college in the southwest part of continent has agreed to host the event, with two other college involved. The others are more mundane schools, but magic of course is not integral to gymnastics. Zanther has offered to keep the gym open to all who wish to practice and perfect routines over the weekend and next week. The whole group is to meet up Thursday for final preparations. Also, the time for the Playactors Drama Guild's first play is close at hand. Next week is relatively quiet, but final walk through and a dress rehearsal will be held following week. The play starts at the end of that week and continues over the weekend. The earth genasi has already made sure the Playactors know of his Gymnastics Club activities so he can balance the two. But he's in for a busy couple of weeks!
Knap: The Iron-Lifters Society is not really doing anything out of the ordinary over the coming weeks. Greta has suggested that perhaps the group should get together to see the show band though as a kind of fun outing for the group. There is though starting to be talk of a competition later on for those who might be interested.
Mei: While she does have some upcoming events, there is nothing quite as involved as Maeand Guardokhave. The Distinguished Society of Fine Artists is having a special gala to exhibit a few student works of art. It will be in two weeks, the evening before Mae's performance. The Iron-Lifters Society, as already noted, is not doing much other than Greta trying to get the group together for the show band performance.
Malvyn: The Strixhaven Star is not really having any particular events either. They are focused on covering the other events happening on campus. So certainly someone willing to write up something on an event they attended would probably be very welcomed. Saturday evening is a gala for the Distinguished Society of Fine Artists
In summary, next weekend there is a gymnastics meet way off to the southwest part of the continent. It will be followed during the following week with dress rehearsal for the play and performances starting at the end of the week. Those continue over the weekend. That same weekend on Saturday evening is the gala for the Distinguished Society of Fine Artists. And then on Sunday afternoon the Strixhaven Show Band Association has their performance.
(OOC - If you'd like to post a bit about what your characters might be doing to navigate all the things going on. The school year has become a bit more packed with events. And of course, classes haven't stopped, though you are in a little bit of a lull from exams. I do realize some have less going on specifically than others - sorry to Knap and Malvyn a bit. If there are specific things you'd like to play out with your character, we can set that up. I'd like to at least get in some 'event' with each character - some might be just supporting others. For the present weekend, if the floormates want to meet one of the days to talk about plans for the upcoming couple weeks that would be great. And seems like there was some investigating thing happening maybe. But who has time for that?)
Assuming he gets reasonable amounts of time with his studies and can keep up with his work at the Biblioplex, Malvyn would offer to cover all the mentioned events for the Strixhaven Star, even offering to come along to cover the gymnastics event. Obviously he would go and listen to the Showband anyway and earlier he would summon courage to ask Aurora to be his date at the art gala.
(No worries Culuril, Malvyn has enough on his plate to keep him occupied. Ready to play out whatever you and the others would want. :-)
Mae is mostly busy with practicing, studying (with less enthusiasm perhaps as practicing), and bumping into Larine as much as possible. She gladly makes time for her floormates though, if they need to discuss anything and would certainly be up for going to the gala and bring Larine if she could. She is frequently found humming her part to the showband music, even during classes and quite keen for her sectional rehearsal before the big show. She continues to play an awkward dance around Aurora, and always looks happily relieved when she finds her green haired friend again.
Outside of her studies (which are continuing to slack a bit in favor of more social events/extracurriculars), Mei gladly volunteers to work the art gala in any capacity needed. She'll happily attend all of her floormates' events she's able to in support (and for the Show Band performance will, if she can, start painting a shirt that says "I'm here for the drummer" to wear for Mae heh)!
If Guardok ever has the time, she'd still love to work on her dagger and grappling skills with him. And would also put a great deal of focus into practicing more offensive magics. Perhaps Piero or Malvyn would be up for an arcane duel?
Knap softly respond to Guardok. “Magical disguise, of course, that’s what I meant. Ha! You’d think me aceing the exams was all luck. Sorry, my thoughts have been plenty slippery of late, shapeshifty almost. All good, we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

When Mei realizes this, she quickly prestidigitates the paint from the shirt and writes "flutist" instead (LOL).
