Knap turns casually after Malvyn’s booming voice. “I’ll wear your shirt, Mei” “‘Rock’, a little bit like painting the town red I guess. One of those sayings particular to place” he turns again to the landscape rolling out before them “My satyr mob got that term ‘rock’ too. Ever heard that song ‘Rock Around the Sundial?’ He then repeats the name in Sylvan. “Not to be confused with actual rocks around a sundial, which is entirely different ritual altogether. “
Knap smiles happily thinking he helped clear up any confusions.
"I definitely have some reading up to do on the those subjects."The purple-skinned tiefling confesses, still seeming awkward about the whole conversation but relieved that his friends wouldn't mock him for his awkwardness.
Mei squeaks in surprise then blinks as Malvyn's voice booms through the small space. Rubbing at her ears, she laughs, "Y-Yep! I think that will h-help a lot!"
Her head cocks to one side as she imagines Knap's satyr mob both dancing and performing a ritual, wondering especially what a ritual involving rocks around a sundial might be for. "That sounds like a fun song. Maybe there will be bards at the inn and we could see if they know it? Would be fun to dance somewhere besides the Bow's End! N-Not that the Bow's End is bad!" she quickly corrects. "It's too bad Guardok will have to go back to campus right away," she sighs with a concerned glance out the window, worried their friend may very well get burnt out by his busy schedule. There was certainly another side to the Eight of Coins card.
With a glisten in his eye, Guardok races from the coach departure point to the gymnasium ready for the evening practice. Seeking out Zanther and perhaps Conys before they start.
"Last practice here before the competition. Will there be time to practice once we get to Silkmeadow as well?", he asks, looking up at them. "It will be good to get familiar with their apparatus and the size of their floor area".
They can tell there is a little nervousness mixed in with the little genesis excitement.
"Do you think there will be a big crowd? It's always better in front of a crowd. I mean, my friends are on their way there now, so we will have some support".
Back on the coach after the stop, the journey continues. With the growing darkness there is a bit less to see out the window as you travel. The road continues south by southwest, until it finally make a distinct westward shift.
Hard to see, but on the left are occaisonal glimpses of the water. The mountains at this point are gone, yield to rugged hills which you climb and descend.
At long last, you reach your destination. Other travelers depart and rapidly disperse into the night. In the heart of the city, there is a little bit of activity on the streets still. But it is soars and things are mostly quiet. The coach man approaches your group. "Can I help you folk with directions?"
Both Zanther and Conys are present when Guardok gets to the gym. "Yes, of course. We'll have time to run through things in the morning. And of course warm up before the competition. But tonight we want to try to just run through things as we want to do them," Zanther replies. "Just a light run through."
He also answers the question about the crowd. "Not sure what to expect. It's quite a journey from Strixhaven, so we might not have too many folks cheering us. I'd hope we'd have a decent crowd though to watch."
Conys helps get people organized and everyone runs through their various routines. The group rotates from one item to the next, as a team. Nerves are high for a few. A handful seem unconcerned whether they struggle or not - though generally these folks were not top performers.
At the end, Zanther gives the group one last talk. "Ok everyone, we want to make sure to have fun. I hour everyone can perform their best. But if you give it your best, you've already won in my book!"
All are ready to meet early tomorrow to teleportation to the competition. It is a bit odd though knowing you're the only one returning to the 4th floor of Dresar Hall tonight. Well, maybe other than perhaps Lesviel.
"Yes, well we should find somewhere to stay the night I suppose?" The purple-skinned tiefling says, looking between the others in his company, seeming fairly excited over visiting a new place after several weeks at the university.
Mei summons her Unseen Helper for an extra pair of hands to carry the far too many pieces of luggage she brought. Hoisting a pack over her shoulder, she nods in agreement. "Yes, um, do you know of any inns near where they're holding the gymnastics meet? Directions would be so helpful!" She's distracted when the Helper tugs at the leather trunk she picked up. After a brief fit of tug-of-war, she relents and allows the invisible force to carry it.
Mae stepped out wearily and stretched, glad though to finally be out of the carriage for a bit. She watched Mei struggle to unload her things and shook her head a bit, carrying only a single sack with her besides her usual shoulder bag. She was happy to come watch her floor mate in their competition, but on such a short schedule she was less enthused about seeing or doing much else. "Yes, we need to eat and refresh. Can I help you, Mei? Why did you bring so much?"
"Diviner's curse--we're preppers," Mei says with a timorous grin. "When you can see all the ways something can go, it's hard not to prepare for them too." She nods at one larger trunk, "In case we miss our coach back or our coach breaks down in the middle of nowhere," then another, "In case our money is stolen," and yet another, "in case there's a dragon attack on the city. W-Which I know is highly improbable, but, um... not impossible."
Hefting up a small pack, she smiles wider, "And this one is empty so we have space for souvenirs! Maybe we can find something for Larine too."
Mae shrugged as Mei explained herself. "Well I certainly hope dragon attacks aren't common. That would surely interfere with the competition, wouldn't it?" She looked at the bag for souvenirs. "Oh...I mean maybe. I...I didn't say I'd get her something. I mean, I didn't think we'd really have time to shop...but...maybe." She blushed though and offered to help carry the things in with Mei. "Did you want to share a room, Mei, or are we all staying separately?"
Mei gives the aasimar the "in case our money is stolen" bag with her thanks and smiles at the reaction to Larine's mention. At the prospect of sharing a room, she nods emphatically, "Y-Yes, please! I'd feel a lot better sharing. My coin purse would too!" she giggles.
She then digs around for her notebook to take down any directions the coach driver gives them.
"Great speech, Zanther", Guardok says giving the fire genasi a thumbs up.
He had done his best to concentrate during the session, but he had been a bit distracted by thoughts of the following day. He also wondered how his floor mates were getting on with their travels. They might even have arrived by now. Those things were still on his mind as he made the walk back to Dresar Hall.
The familiar buzz of activity greeted him as he arrived, but it all went a bit quiet as he got off the elevator on the fourth floor. Deciding it was best to get an early night, rather than staying up running lines, he simply does his ablutions and gets ready for bed.
Assuming nothing interrupts him, he will rise early as usual for his exercises and sword practice and to make sure he has time for a decent breakfast before heading to the teleportation circle. Depending on how early he has to be there, he might end up eating on the run.
Replying to Malvyn, the coach man says, "Well, all depends on where you want to be. Not far from here there's a fine place. Not quite luxury, but most travelers find it nice. Puts you close to the markets. You want something more economical you'll have to travel a bit further up the river towards the edge of town. Usually not much around there for tourists though, so you'd be going cross-town for most things." He shrugs. "I can recommend a spot in either place. Or give you other ideas if there is somewhere in particular you're hoping to visit."
(If someone asks - the nearby accommodations would be 3 gp for two nights. The 'economical' option would 8 sp for the two nights. Rate is per room with the 'economical' option actually offering separate beds for 2 and the nearer would allow for 2 but there would be one bed, though considerably larger. There are other possibilities should you inquire.)
“I don’t mind splurging while we’re here. Close to the markets might be nice. Or close to where the athletes are staying. An athletes village? Or somewhere where the night life is hot? What do you all reckon?”
Knap can hardly keep his hooves still as he hops about with his bindle slung over the shoulder.
"Yes, I agree with Knap, we're not leaving the university often so why not make the most of it while we're here."The purple-skinned tiefling agrees with an excited smile, favouring a nice place near the markets. "What do you say ladies?"He then asks M&M.
Mae shrugged. "Closer is probably best. We're already traveling enough as it is, I don't particularly want to hike across the city just to save some coin. Mei and I can share a room. Just show us where it is please." Mei hefted her bag again and began helping Mei with her things as needed.
Not wanting to disagree with her employed friends, Mei silently laments how light her coin purse will be by the end of this trip. Perhaps she could start doing tarot readings in the evenings for a small fee...
The diviner pays special attention to the directions they're given, then heads with the others towards the inn with her Helper in tow.
The coachman gives directions to the nearby place called The Needy Raven. Only a couple blocks away, you are all soon there. You enter into what looks to be a large, 3-story building. The entrance area is well-appointed, with a large fireplace along the back wall and many high-backed chairs and a few sofas scattered about the place. An elegantly dressed gentleman is standing at the desk, not far from the entrance. "Can I help you?" he asks you as he sees you.
As you had been informed, the rate would be 3 gp for a two-night stay. Each room has a rather large bed, wardrobe, and a table and sitting area as well. You are told that there is a bar attached but this place does not serve any food. "How many rooms wlil you need?"
