Mae follows along with the others, pointing out the different sections and people coming in, giving a wave to Guardok if he looks their way, and making sure Mei doesn't get distracted by accident and stays with them, finding a spot hopefully not too close but not far away either.
Knap trots and hops with excitement, practicing various animal honking and hooting sounds, trying to find the right kind of goose to cheer on his friend and school team.
Mei does, indeed, need some herding as she pauses to wish good luck to any participants on the way to seats. After being redirected, she excitedly points out the equipment she recognizes from her and Malvyn's visit to Strixhaven's gym for Guardok's tryouts.
Once seated, Mei looks for Guardok, but also curiously observes the other spectators. She's heard school "spirit" can make for some serious rivalries and wonders if Aven Academy has any such spirited students.
Guardokhad quite a bit of time to get his stretches done and even a few warmups before he notes his floormates entering the gymnasium. Both Conys and Zanther offer their support for any spotting you might need. And they are happy for your help if you're able.
Malvynis easily able to move over to the area as there are not really any people in that section yet. He notices a few faces that seem familiar, and soon spots Zanther not far from the Strixhaven sign. The genasi is speaking to one of the halfling girls, seeming to be trying to calm her nerves. Maeis thus able to find a seat to her liking - neither too close nor too far - as there are plenty to choose from. Knap's various sounds attract a bit of attention, both from the sparse crowd and also a few of the competitors.
Meidoes not run into many competitors - at least as far as she can tell. They seem to be on the gym floor rather than in the stands. But she does quickly catch sight of Guardok, and is plenty busy waving at him and a few other Strixhaven competitors that she recognizes. The crowd itself seems fairly light, though there is a larger contingent over on the side with the Aven Academy sign. There doesn't seem to be any overly 'spirited' spectators at this point - most seem to be talking amongst themselves or casually watching the warmups.
As soon as Mei waves at Guardok all the others spot him as well. You realize that even though he's on the other side of the gym, you still have a good view from here.
Guardok does indeed offer to spot his team mates on any apparatus that requires it, and when he spots Mei waving, he beams back at her waving both his arms above his head.
(OOC: I assume the competitors don't get the same good view of the crowd as they get of the competitors, because that would be really distracting?)
(OOC - Yes, you can kind of make out people in the stands above, but your vantage point is not nearly as good as a competitor!)
(Guardok - for the sake of the competition, we'll say you can focus on up to 3 events. We can kind of walk through them - relatively quickly. But which events would you choose?)
The purple-skinned Tiefling too waves to Guardok, albeit probably a bit more tempered than the excited oracle, taking a seat with his friends and observing the preparations.
Mae takes her seat and waves at Guardok, before pulling her bag into her lap, ready to watch the events and hoping their space doesn't get too crowded by the end.
Mei points a finger at their floormate to Message, “Good luck, Guardok. Remember to have fun, okay? We’re already proud of you.”
The point turns into a thumbs up, then two thumbs up which she raises above her head while hopping up and down. Nearly ending up in Knap’s lap as she loses balance, Mei finally settles in a seat for the event.
The others can see that she added Zanther’s face to the back of her shirt too, framed by the words: Burn, Baby, Burn! Bowen Inferno!
As practice and warmups come to an end, Zanther pulls the Strixhaven team together. You note the competitors from the other schools also gather together at their places. In the stands, the crowd has filled in a bit, but there is still quite a bit of space for everyone. The seats near to the Aven Academy are packed, while the other schools seem to only have moderate attendance. It does seem to be others here to support the Strixhaven team. You vaguely recognize some of them, though none that you really know by name. There even seems to be a couple of professors here - but not any that you have classes with.
With the teams gathered, an older owlin in a heavy cloak steps onto a small platform near the center of the gymnasium. A horn sounds, getting everyone's attention. "I am Kiri of the Aven Order," he proclaims, his voice booming from what must be magical enhancement. "Aven Academy welcomes you all today. We hope you enjoy this demonstration of athletic strength, agility, and skill. May all competitors honorably perform to the best of their abilities. Thank you to our friends from Nandeno College for joining our event today. And our appreciation to both the Laekrith Institue and Strixhaven University for making the journey here!" He briefly bows in the direction of each of the three other schools.
"And now, let our competition commence!" As he steps down from the platform a horn blows once again.
"Ok!" Zanther tells the Strixhaven contingent of gymnasts. "Time for our first event - that will be the balance beam. The horn will sound again when it's time to rotate to the next event. If you aren't competing in an event you are welcome to come back here to relax a bit. Or there is room to the side if you want so cheer the others on. Let's go!" Having finished his talk, the genasi comes over to Guardok, offering a word of encouragement. "You've been doing great on this one. Just focus on what you already know how to do. Time to let the practice pay off!" He then leads the team over to the balance beam.
(Guardok- For each event there will be multiple rolls - probably 3 or so. In this case Balance Beam is Dexterity(Acrobatics), Strength(Atheltics), and Performance(Charisma). You know for this event Acrobatics is most important, though Strength is a close second for jumps. Points are given for general artistry of the performance, but you know this is minimal in this event. Given your training, you may apply Advantage to one roll, which must be decided before you roll.)
Two of Guardok'steammates go before him. Both are a tiny but wobbly on the beam but make it up for it with some good jumps and handstands. They also both look a bit stiff in their moves, losing a little bit of points for their artistry. The first earns a score of 6.84 and the second gets a 6.68.
(OOC - Note on scores. I'm setting it up so that technically a 10.00 would be the best possible. Probably realistically an 8.00 is going to be an incredibly amazing score.)
Around the gym you can see that the Aven Academy is beginning with their Floor Routine. The Laekith Insitute is starting on the Rings. And Nandeno College is doing the Parallel Bars. Nobody is performing on the Uneven Bars or Vault this round.
Guardok nods to Zanther, hoping from foot to foot on the spot as he waits anxiously for his turn. Watching the others on his team, he applauds as they make the jumps look so easy. That is the part he is most worried about.
As they each finish, he high fives them as they pass, although his high five is a low five for them.
"Nice job, you did so well!".
And then it his turn, and he moves forward, trying to shake off the nerves from his limbs as he goes. And then it is time, and he is on the beam. He has practiced a lot, mainly focusing on those jumps, trying to make up for his lack of strength with technique. His routine begins...
(OOC: He will take advantage on Strength (Athletics) please)
Guardok moves across the beam, trying to keep his balance while showing off his dexterity, strength and flair.
Acrobatics: 4+5=9 (Am I right that he can add a d4 for Acrobatics from being in the the gymnastics club? If so +1 for 10) Athletics: (16, 15)+1=17 Performance: 18+5=23
(OOC: Is he allowed to use bardic inspiration for his team mates, or is that defined the same as using magic? He definitely wouldn't cheat if there is any ambiguity)
The purple-skinned tiefling would cheer with the others as the participants from Strixhaven step forward, even using his eldritch magic to enhance his cheering as Guardok is up.
Malvyn's cheering perhaps helps the genasi with his routine. He is a bit shaky with his balance at times but executes the more athletic maneuvers well. And he does it all with an amazing flair. It is clear that more than just the Strixhaven supports are applauding some of his moves.
Knowing there were some mistakes made, Guardokreceives a score of 5.75, putting in third place behind his teammates for the moment. The crowd voices a bit of disappointment at the score as many clearly enjoyed his performance.
The last Strixhaven competitor finishes his balance beam routine just have, receiving a 5.56 score, leaving the standings in place.
The horn sounds and the Strixhaven team moves on to the Uneven Bars, giving Guardok a break for one round. As the teams are getting to their next piece of equipment, the first round scores are posted:
Overall Team Scores - After 1 Round Strixhaven University 19.27 Aven Academy 17.84 Nandeno College 14.64 Laekith Institute 11.12
As the next round begins, Conys does an amazing job on her Uneven Bar routine getting 8.10 score. She easily rises to first place in the event, though the rest of the Strixhaven team does reasonably well.
For a time Conys' score is the highest single score, but it is soon beaten out by a member from the Aven Academy with an 8.92. Another member of the same team posts a 7.56, making for a very good round for that team.
Nandeno College is performing on the Balance Beam this time. Their highest score is a 5.56 leaving Guardokin third for the event still.
The Laekith Institute moves to the Parallel Bars and the team really struggles. Their highest score is 3.20, which does happen to put that competitor into third place at the moment. The other scores are all in the 2's.
The horn sounds once again and the teams move on. Strixhaven is now going to be doing their Floor Routine. With an amazing round from the Aven Academy, the standings change a bit when they are posted. The crowd of Aven supporters is pretty pumped up after the great vaulting performance.
Overall Team Scores - After 2 Rounds Aven Academy 39.92 Strixhaven University 37.45 Nandeno College 29.32 Laekith Institute 19.30
Guardokwill be up first this time. So far, only Aven Academy has competed in this event. The standings so far:
Floor Exercise Scores - After 2 Rounds Shetra Glossnest Aven Academy 6.92 Seeng Rufftalon Aven Academy 6.00 Qlelle Aven Academy 4.92 Mukutia Scarear Aven Academy 4.24
(Guardok - For this event there is much more of a balance between Acrobatics(Dexterity), Athletics(Strength), and Performance(Charisma). This time you can choose one roll to have Advantage on before you roll, and you may choose to re-roll one roll after seeing the results of the rolls.)
Guardok is pleased with his performance, but when he hears his score is slightly disappointed. He had to admit that he had reverted a little to circus mentality, and although he had got the jumps right, had spent more time thinking about entertaining the crowd than getting the basics right.
He pushes the disappointment to the back of his mind as he cheers on the others in his team when they do their routines on the uneven bar, congratulating Conys on her amazing score.
And then it is time for the floor routine, and he once again makes his way forward and prepares to start.
