Guardok can see that while the cliff face above looks solid, there is a great bit of loose stone further up. In fact, he can see where it appears that the current debris pile must have originated. It seems like it would take quite a bit to dislodge what is there. And probably even this slide would have taken some significant force to initiate it. There are however no other passages near at hand that can be seen.
Kira seems adamant about getting to Disyn's Grotto, but eventually seems to relent. "I have failed Disyn," she mutters. But then she speaks up louder. "There are others amongst our group that might be more familiar with these mountains and the passages." She sighs, "Maybe we will need to return to Silkmeadow."
Malvyn has a mix of feelings, sad that they couldn't enter the grotto and find out what Disyn wanted with Mei, but also somewhat relieved. With every new step on this trek he had come to realize just how much out of his zone of comfort he was, someone who until recently rarely had left the library, much less ventured into the wilds or whatever this would be called. "Yes, better do this in safe way." He quickly agrees, looking at Guardok and Mei hoping they too would agree to this.
"Um, Kira. Does Disyn have any enemies? I am just wondering what could have caused this rock slide", Guardok says a little concerned. "Perhaps returning for reinforcements is the best plan".
He looks around, "Although I am happy to stay here and look for another route in whilst you go. Unless you do think this was done deliberately".
Kira looks to Mei, then back to the others. "Yes, we're going to have to get others to help us. We've got to go back to SIlkmeadow." She shakes her head. "I'm not sure how long it will even take to find those that know the caves the best." The comment from Guardok does draw her attention however. "Do you really think this could have been done deliberately? Disyn has no enemies. And how even would someone move such a large amount of rock? It's just... not possible. Is it?"
"Unless this area is prone to earth quakes", Guardok muses. "Or that giant walking statue has been here!", he adds, sounding shocked at his own train of thought.
"If we find the right kind of help perhaps they can determine what caused this too. I've read that dwarves are particularly knowledgable about such things." The purple-skinned tiefling muses.
Kira shakes her head. "I've not really heard of earthquakes in the area. But could be I suppose. Wouldn't we have felt it though?" She then adds, "Giant statue? You think that thing you saw could have done something like this?" She sounds extremely skeptical."Dwarves though
Guardok does seem to recall seeing some odd marks on the other side of where the rockfall occurred. He hadn't had any second thoughts before, but now with talk of the giant statue, he wondered. (Roll Investigation with Advantage if you decide to go take a look again.)
"Hmm... dwarves," Kira muses after Malvyn'scomment. "We do have a couple of dwarves devoted to Disyn. Perhaps I could speak with them."
Guardok makes a bit of a circuitous path around the debris field from the rock slide. But as you get further around, you can just barely make out what might be a foot print. But it is a huge footprint - it's easily two feet wide!
Kira had followed behind, several paces back. She doesn't notice the print at first, but once pointed out she can see it too. "What in the world could have done that?"
Guardok is looking closely at the footprint when Kira approaches and speaks, and he turns to see if she has come alone or if Mei and Mal are with her.
"Two possibilities that I can think of. The figure I saw in the distance, or could it be Disyn? Is she big enough to have done this if she left the cave?".
The curious purple-skinned tiefling has indeed followed along and quickly moves closer to inspect the huge footprint as Guardok points it out. "I haven't had the impression Disyn is someone that would leave footprints."He mumbles to himself as he crouches down to study the forotprint closer, more inclined to think it was that wandering statue that had made it.
Everyone had followed along with Guardok. Kira shakes her head. "That is definitely not something Disyn would do! She is a goddess of light and shadow. Not a giant!"Malvyn'sinspection doesn't tell him too much. He does think that the size of the foot could be the right size for the giant creature Guardokhad seen.
"I fear we are not going to resolve anything here," Kira says. "The day is already passing, so I'm not sure we can get back to town by nightfall. But I think I'm going to need to contact others among Disyn's followers to help us resolve this."
Guardok shrugs, "If that is what we need to do, but that is going to add days to this trip, and we were already tight on time to get back to the university before missing too many lectures".
"I know that likely isn't important to you right now, but it is a concern for me", he adds.
He does look a little concerned, but turns to head back towards town.
