With classes ended, the floormates split up a bit - at least for the moment.
Malvynhad mentioned a lunch and heads to the Biblioplex. He recalls that from the information he had picked up that the Strixhaven Star had an office on campus in a building towards the north end of the Central Campus. They had an information meeting for new students scheduled tomorrow. Also, while he had not found Aurora earlier, he does notice her in Magical Physiologies.
Charais interested in joining Malvyn for lunch as well as studying.
Guardoktakes a walk by himself. (Perhaps ending up at the Biblioplex later.) The official start for activities were happening over the next couple of days. Though you imagine you would be able to find Zanther at the campus gymnasium. Rubina you are less certain where she might be hanging out. She was in your final class of the day, so you might be able to catch up with her if you wanted to ask.
Meiheads off on an errand of her own.
Maestops back at Dresar Hall before going out to check on jobs at the Bow's End Tavern. With the materials she had picked up, she realizes the next Showband rehearsal would be tomorrow. She does see both Rubina and Aurora in the last class.
(OOC - I was going to try to establish jobs first with characters. But feel free to RP anything if you like towards deciding between jobs and activities. I'd like to have an opportunity for you all to interact with the NPCs involved in your various jobs or activities.)
And Knap, not as frazzled after Physiologies as his other classes, offers Chara to share his notes and thanks Mei for the book garden reminder. “Malvyn, let me know when you’re ready to hit the books, I’ll be in the book garden.”
Malvyn is fully intent to study with the Study Group this afternoon, but as the purple-skinned tiefling spots Aurora coming out from class he excuses himself and walks over to see if she remembers him from last night, his hand seeking confidence with his tome now as neither his ally wine nor the Knight of Cups are with him at this time.
Mae notices Rubina and Aurora, but figures she will see them again at the Showband soon so she continues her plan to drop things off at her room and then return to the tavern closer to evening to inquire about a job there. While in her room she spends a little bit of time getting herself somewhat organized with her books and notes and then some time practicing her music.
Knap rolled in the Book Garden grass for a good lazy while, pausing now and then to meditate and attempt to reach into the wild place within himself. He couldn’t quite get the right shape of thought and decided to go sort out finding a job. Knap picked himself up from the soft cool grass and made his way to the biblioplex cafe to ask the barista where he might sign up for paid work on campus.
Knapmakes his way back towards the entryway of the Biblioplex, where the café is located. As he does, Malvynis just coming in through the main doors and spots Knap. Then as the pair meet, they also notice Chara, talking to the smame gnome you had met yesterday at the café. She seems to be speaking to her.
Entering the Biblioplex, the purple-skinned tiefling seems to have his thoughts elsewhere than being in awe of the temple of knowledge before him. As he spots Knap he heads over to his room mate with a pleased smile. "I am just going to check in at the information desk about the application I made yesterday and then I will find us a study room. Are you still interested in the study group?" He says to the Satyr.
He then passes Chara on his way over to the information desk. "I am just going to check in at the information desk about the application I made and then I will find us a study room. Are you still interested in the study group?" He asks the winged Tiefling.
He then proceeds to the information desk to inquire about his application, curious to see if it had been processed yet.
Malvyn would then try to find a free study room for the study group, hoping the others would find their way there, pulling up his notes to go through them again, leaving the room at times to head out into the library to get some more books on the subject to reach a deeper understanding of what the professors had taught them today. While slightly impatient, he does his best to help those who would ask for his assistance with anything. He seems somewhat distracted though and checks the clock quite often.
“Heyoooh, you two! mmm yeah study group sounds good to me. But does it have to be a study room? What about a study lawn instead?” The smell of Book Garden grass still sticks to the Satyr. Knap knows he’s no book worm or hawk-king (not yet anyway) so he would defer to Malvyn’s wisdom on the subject of study. “True though, somewhere quiet might be best to minimise distractions. While you check in at the information desk I’m going go ask the gnome at the cafe about where to sign up for jobs.”
There is a dragonborn working at the Information Desk. He tells Malvyn, "Applications? Let me take a look. What was the name again?" Once Malvyntells him, he starts to leaf through a set of papers. "Ah, here it is, Mr. Darkhold. I take it you are responding to the note we sent. You are here to speak to one of the staff?"
He also informs you that there are no study rooms, except for those typically used by fourth-year students studying for their final thesis. There are numerous wooden tables and chairs where students gather to study. They are freely available. "With the immensely high ceilings, and with students observing appropriate volumes when talking, there is usually no issue with too much noise being generated," he explains.
(OOC - So not possible to set himself up in a room. Malvyn could choose a table, but also has the question about the Biblioplex job.)
Knapdidn't get much of a response from Malvyn, so is left wondering where he might have gone after the Information Desk. There's no question about where the other Tiefling is located, as Charais still talking to the gnome at the cafe counter.
"Oh, I wasn't aware of any note sent, I am just curious but I'm ready to speak to one of the staff about it now."The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a slight excitement. He had been hoping for one of the study rooms but recalled it had likely been mentioned that this was a privilege not for first-year students like himself. The study areas in the main library would most likey suffice though, although the talking had to be kept at a minimum. Interesting discussions about todays classes could be had back in the lounge at Dresar Hall later.
"Of course, hold on here just a moment," the Dragonborn says to Malvyn. He seems to press something, and a small automaton flies off towards the stacks. "Notes went out earlier this morning. To your dormitory," he says while waiting. After a couple moments, a minotaur standing over 7 ft. tall comes over to the desk. "This is Drazhomir Yarnask," the Dragonborn says. "If you could go with him he can give you a brief overview of the positions we have in the Biblioplex itself and talk about scheduling." You note the Drazhomir is wearing a Quandrix uniform, marking him a second-year student. "Drazhomir, this is Malvtn Darkhold."
"Quite an honor to meet you Malvyn," Drazhomir says in his soft deep voice. You recognize him as one of the extracurricular representatives from yesterday. "Now, do you have experience working in a library? New students typically start as Book Shelver. It will give you a chance to learn the lay of the place and how things work here. Later you could move up to Book Clerk, which is what I do." He motions to you, "Come let me show you about a bit."
As Guardok cheerfully makes his way back towards the Biblioplex, intent on finding the carriage to the Silverquill campus, he spots Malvyn in the distance. He gives the tiefling a wave, but Malvyn didn't see him. Following him into the building, he loses sight of him, but does see Chara and Knapp near the Cafe.
"Hey Chara, hey Knapp", he says as he approaches. "I spotted Malvyn coming in here, but he seems to have disappeared. What are you two up to? I have just signed up for the Gymnastics Club. I was thinking of heading over to Silverquill campus, but maybe I'll go tomorrow if The Study Group is in session'.
The purple-skinned Tiefling watches with curious fiery red eyes as the small automaton flies off, presumably to notify whoever would see him about his application. He is somewhat in awe as he is approached by the massive minotaur, and he bows politely and respectfully to the Quandrix student. "The honour is mine I'm sure." Malvyn says with a polite smile. "I actually do have some exprience working in a library, although a small private one and not nearly as comprehensive as what you have here of course, but I think the principles would be the same."He continues, ready to follow the minotaur on his tour.
Drazhomir leads Malvyn off towards the stacks, giving a brief description of some of the automatons used, and starting to explain how the books are categorized, organized, and shelved. It's far more complicated than you could have imagined it being. The minotaur asks questions as you go, asking about the library you worked in and nodding at your answers. "Sir, I think you would make an excellent Book Clerk in no time. But we will start you as a Book Shelver to learn the ropes so to speak. When can you start?" He works with you to figure out a possible schedule that fits around classes and activities.
Malvyn follows the gentle minotaur and listens attentively to his instructions, making some quick notes when needed. "Thank you Sir, I will do my utmost to not disappoint you Sir." He says with some excitement, making sure to accomodate the needs of the library as the schedule is made.
As he is finished he tries to collect any floor mates he can find by the Biblioplex cafe before finding a place foer them all to sit and study together, mentioning he has an appointment at 4.30 but that they could continue after that up in the their lounge at Dresar hall for discussions on today's classes.
Knap approaches the gnome at the cafe who is speaking Chara. She is asking about shifts at the cafe. Interrupting for just a moment, Aisla tells you that the campus facilities office is just a short distance away and she gives you directions.
(OOC - Sorry for missing this before, I'd thought I'd replied earlier!)
“Hey, Guardok, I gotta find a job, not much coin in my pockets. I’m gonna head to the facilities office and meet Malvyn back Here for a study session soon.”
Knap he turns back to the gnome and smile “thanks for your help”. He then heads out of the cafe towards the facilities office.
Drazhomir works out a schedule with Malvyn that has him starting later this week. He then is able to find a table to set up and wait for his floormates to join him.
The study tables are certainly not empty. But there are vast spaces that are not occupied. Evidently only a handful of students decided to jump into studying this quickly.
Knap heads out to the campus facilities office. An older half-elf is working at the counter and quickly directs you to a room adjacent to the lobby. There you meet a human who is in charge of the campus grounds. "You're interested in working to keep the campus grounds clean? What sort if experience do you have. We're looking for folk who have experience to work with keeping the lands manicured. But there's also positions to retrieve litter or sweep sidewalks."
(OOC - I've not heard from Chara for some time, so Guardok, you can assume she's still busy talking to the gnome and join up with Malvyn if you wish!)
Unobservant as she is, Meieventually--after some wandering through the Biblioplex and collecting a few supplemental textbooks along the way--finds the table at which her floormates are already seated for their study session. With a grunt, she hefts the stack of books onto the table as gently as she can. "Malvyn, I think you've inadvertently joined your own Iron Lifters Society," she laughs as she shakes out her arms. "You might even give Greta a run for her coin after a few months of shelving."
The diviner plops down into a seat like an amorphous ooze rather than a human, exhausted after such an early start and rigorous lessons though still invigorated by the variety of topics. Though she does her best to prepare for studying, she can't help but ask after everyone's favorite classes so far--easily distracted by chatting and more philosophical discussion of their lessons than proper studying.
Having found his way to Malvyn's table whilst Knapp and Chara take care of their business, Guardok spends most of the time looking around. When Mei appears with a stack of books his eyes widen.
"Are you really going to read all those?", he asks taken aback. "In truth, I am not even sure what to study right now. I have no tests coming up. At least, I am pretty sure I don't, I guess you all might".
When asked about his favourite class, he can't really choose. "I am not sure yet, they were all interesting. I suppose magical physiologies was interesting. I would much rather be performing the magical arts than studying about their history".
