Good morning/afternoon/evening! I’m SavageVince. I’ve been playing table top RPGs for many years, but almost always as a player. I’ve been itching to try my hand at DMing so this is it, I’m creating a PbP game forum in a homebrewed world that I’ve been putting together for some time now. Though, having so little experience, I’d like to start with a one-shot, which, if it goes well, might turn into a longer campaign. I’ll be looking for 4 players that enjoy story-telling, cooperation and understand that this is a game ment to have fun. Here is the premice:
Far to the west of the mainland of the Amarillian Empire, beyond the Great Blue Veil Ocean, stands the newly discovered land of Tyrannis. After a rocky start to the colonization effort, a single town has been successfully established: Dawn Point. For three years, the town has managed to exist despite the threat of the hostile and very dangerous native wildlife and the strenuous relation with the indigenous people of this new continent. Many people have traveled to this new land to seek things like wealth, a fresh start or in your case, adventure. You have recently arrived by boat in Dawn Point. While looking for work, you realize that since offer for able hands seems to be higher than the demand, you have only managed to find one suitable job offer. For all the details regarding this offer, you are asked to go and speak with a certain Brugg at the Wailing Wench tavern near the docks.
So, is your interest piqued? If so, feel free to leave a character application down below. I’ll be reviewing them once enough time has passed or I get a decent number of applicants. I’m hoping this can be a little bit more casual, so ideally we can have a post per day, but I understand that sometimes life is a cruel mistress, so do not feel pressured to rush a post. I myself might sometime need more time to reply. I’m in EST and I usually check threads a few times a day on my phone, but tend to reply near end of day.
As for the character creation requirement, I’ll leave a template below, but feel free to send me a pm if you have any questions.
Character Name:
HP: Fixed
Class (Any official content. As I’m a new DM, I won’t be allowing homebrew. sorry): Starting level is 3.
Piqued, my interest be. I think I might (proverbially) roll up a Rune Knight, so I'd like to know if you've decided on any giant lore, if it's not too much to ask.

Quaykos Lioran, or Quay, hails from the ethereal realm of the Feywild. Born to the noble House of Lioran, his childhood was one of privilege and magic, as he honed his innate connection to nature and the arcane under the tutelage of his family's skilled mages.
Tragedy struck when a malevolent warlock named Varek unleashed a wave of dark magic that engulfed Quay’s homeland. The Feywild's once-vibrant landscapes withered, and its inhabitants suffered under Varek's cruel reign. Quay’s family, knowing that he would be killed by Varek for being a paladin, sent him to the Material Plane.
Quay struggles in the Material Plane, due to people not trusting eladrin, this world being completely different than the nature of the Feywild, and his youth and inexperience. However, Quay swore to avenge the suffering of his people and those oppressed by dark forces. He seeks out adventurers to help him in his quest to defeat Varek. Quay also longs to find a group of people who will take him in and accept him for who he is.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Quay has heard that powerful adventurers have come to this island in order to seek out work, and Quay feels the need to become stronger in order to continue on his quest.
Backstory: One of the great libraries in Amarillian Empire had a child deposited on their doorstep more than a decade ago. This Kenku child was raised by some of the staff. Despite his inability to speak on his own, he developed a voracious appetite for knowledge, pouring over the nearly limitless tomes of history, nature and scientific study. Now, of an age to begin his own studies, he has left the only home he has ever known and set forth into the wider world, seeking to learn first hand, rather than from words on a page.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: [Sound of Cork Popping] is fascinated by the exotic flora and fauna of this continent. He hopes to keep a field journal and eventually turn it into a book of new world naturalism.

DM -(Homebrew) Heroes of Bardstown *Red Dead Annihilation: ToA *Where the Cold Winds Blow : DoIP * Covetous, Dragonish Thoughts: HotDQ * Red Wine, Black Rose: CoS * Greyhawk: Tides of War
Race: Changeling (or Tiefling if changeling is banned)
Background: Pirate
Backstory: Dalys never served the same captain more than a couple of times. Despite being a changeling, he loved his own face too much to shift out of it too often. It turned out many people loved his face too. It gave him quite a lot of trouble with different crews, so he could never quite make himself a permanent member of any ship. Despite his reputation, he's great at what he does. He climbs ropes faster than anyone else, fights with dirty tricks, and when he's not being a proper bastard, he's good company.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Dalys recently pissed off the wrong people. He might have had a fling with some admiral's daughter or son, the story changes, but he really couldn't be on the mainland anymore. With so many bridges burned, he has turned to the frontier in hopes he can make a living for himself on the shore. And hopefully not piss anyone else off in the process.

Backstory: Blix had been born and raised in a Halfling shire outside the Amarillian capitol. A necromancers assault left much of the shire's leadership dead, including most of his family. Blix narrowly survived it himself, and a shadow minion had left his soul permanently altered. The few survivors could barely recognize him. Feeling unwelcome in his only home, he sought a new life in the capitol. His father having been a constable, Blix was a natural with interrogation, fact finding, and persuasion. So he became a bounty hunter.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: In Blix's early days as a bounty hunter, he had been singularly concerned with getting paid. Abstract principles of justice were not even a secondary concern. He had made some unnecessary enemies that were ultimately making work difficult and all too scarce. Perhaps it's time to begin a third chapter in his life.
Ability score generation: Point buy or standard array (your pick): Point Buy
Class: Order of Scribes Wizard 3 (note, this subclass is very focused on finding spells so if spell scrolls/ spellbooks arent available i will likely have to use a different subclass)
Race: library spirit (custom origin) (a spirit once bound to an archmagi's private library, wields a telekinetic power not unlike a poltergeist but with less force and more control) (+2 int, telekinetic feat (+1 int), medium, investigatiion proficiency, languages: common, draconic)
Background: sage
Backstory: originally a very basic spirit binding by Archmage Haldir belthorp Earthmelt to maintain and find things in his library, myrin slowly became more and more aware over many years, eventually forming a sense of self and fully awakening to sapience. as soon as he realized the horrified mage immediately freed myrin and offered to provide whatever he needed as recompense for accidental slavery, practically a child and not fully understanding what slavery was myrin decided to stay despite his freedom and continued to keep the library, now as a paid worker. over several more years myrin and haldir grew closer together, with haldir taking myrin as an aprentice and even adopting them into his family. however their time eventually came to part, as myrin needed to go out into the world to take his place and truly claim their Name as a wizard. disgarding all offers of help or new spells as they considered them to be a cheap alternative to hard work and luck, myrin set out to seek his mantle. as a magus of the Order of Scribes myrin's power is often overlooked for flashier or more powerful magics, a powerful evoker can turn a village to a ruin, a battlemage can protect himself from a thousand blades, a necromancer can create an army, a chronomancer can alter time with unparalleled ease. these flashier magics are more popular, a truly powerful scribe though? a true scribe archmagi is the master of a thousand spells, with a book in their hand they are prepared for any situation, armed with a quill they make all their domain, what they lack in depth of power they make up in breadth.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: because they believe there will be more opportunity to make themself a name, claim their Name, and build their Mantle in a frontier land where its not expected for them to be skilled in diplomacy, a skill they sorely lack.
Ability scores: 8-14-14-18-12-8 (point buy)
Appearance: fairly nondescript robed humanoid with a blank grey mask and wearing brown robes with a purple and red sigil of a book and tower(this but mask is gray and featureless, ignore the background)
character sheet not completed, most of the decisions are made its just not written down.
note, this character is based on my personal understanding of wizards, based on Dungeons and Dragons but also many, many different books, let me know if anything of it doesnt work, also i am happy to keep the lore separate from game mechanics. some of the stuff i remember off the top of my head
wizards have a name like anyone else, but when they come into their power they also take a Name, an elemental binding of their powers into a word, this name is chosen using an old wizardry and a hat, from which you pull two pieces of paper which make up your Name, his is not as random as it appears and holds great meaning to you (not a true name as in people gain power over you, most wizards use it openly)
wizards go through stages of power: (this is vague and not as clear as it seems on paper) (these are separate from rank terms such as Apprentice, Archmagi, Journeyman, and so on)
spellblood, a new mage who may not even become a wizard, can cast simple spells but is not named (in D&D this would be a level one wizard)
Thaumaturge, a wizard Named and who has chosen their path (level 2)
Magus, wizard who is beginning to feel for their Mantle and is settling truly into their path (level 6)
high Magus, a wizard who has claimed their Mantle (must be above level ten but not gained without claiming a Mantle)
Spellsoul, a wizard who has settled into and has full dominion over their Mantle, whose Name shakes the heavens and the earth, and whose magic is truly more natural than breathing (not really a thing in dnd, would require lvl 20 and epic magic rules for over 9th lvl spells as well as legendary feats and accomplishments)
a Mantle is like a domain, its your sphere of influence, kind of a mix between your magic inclinations, your goals, and discovering who you truly are, holds great significance to wizards and can be felt by the magically sensitive if it is strong enough.
Myrin's particular order uses robe colour to distinguish specialty, brown for apprentice, black for life arts, white for light arts, red for combat arts, purple for research, gray for Peacekeepers, green for nature arts, blue for wayfarers, orange for space/time, and yellow for barrier mages
this is what i can think of right now, if yu have any questions or whatever just ask me, i love to talk about fantasy!
This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic byVitaly S Alexius
Backstory: Slag was created roughly 30 years ago by an old dwarf named Slate Glimmersteel . His purpose was to act as a protector and body guard to Slate, Slate's property, and his warforged creations. While most of Slate's creations were beautiful masterpieces... Slag was not one of them. He was created to be a brutal and efficient tool. Most of his life was simply spent standing and watching for threats. Often times when Slag determined the area to be safe, he would instead watch and learn all he could about his "fathers" craft. The old dwarf would often discourage him from trying to learn the skills that brought him to life... believing that he was "not the right tool for that job". Although Slag is a magnificent protector... he desires to be more and to prove himself to his creator.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Slag was traveling to Tyrannis with his creator until their ship was smashed on the rocks in a storm. Slag walked out of the ocean a day later, but has not been able to locate his creator or any of the other passengers on the ship. Without his creator to protect, he seeks a new purpose while continuing to search for his creator and friend...
Backstory: Keystone was born, raised, and apprenticed in his ancestral clan-home, away in the mountains. While his clan taught him masonry, his family taught him carpentry. He became a journeyman in both trades as a young adult. It was during a renovation project on a wizard’s tower that the owner took notice of Keystone’s potential for spell casting. It was thus that Keystone became an apprentice, again. Having recently completed his initial training, Keystone set out to expand his talents. Unfortunately, there was more need for strong backs than intellect magic and so Keystone relied more on his artisan skills to make ends-meet. With the exploration of the new continent, and the establishment of a new trade center, Keystone found employment easily enough. But now-a-days, even the steady labor has dried up and he now finds that he must discover a new way to earn his keep. Perhaps the new lands have old tales just waiting for discovery.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Keystone actually arrived about a year ago and was assist in the building and establishment of the new export location, but after the last job finished, he needs to find new employment.

The Keeneyes clan, like many firbolgs, dwelled in and took care of the forests. They lived in harmony with nature. When the Amarillian Empire first started conquering the continent, the firbolgs suffered at their hands. Imperial woodsmen cut down trees by the score, Imperial nobles hunted beasts for sport, and when the firbolgs tried to retaliate, Imperial soldiers beat them into submission. When it became clear the Empire couldn't be stopped, the Keeneyes retreated into the Feywild to escape the devastation. Bramble was a child when the exodus began. It instilled in her a deep distaste for the Empire and its expansionist policies.
Trained as a skilled hunter and infused with the mystical magics of the faerie realm, Bramble and other Keeneyes scouts would frequently make forays into the material plane to shepherd displaced forest-dwellers, firbolgs or otherwise, back to Keeneyes territory in the Feywild. It was on one of these expeditions that Bramble learned of the discovery of a continent to the west. The thought of lands unspoiled by the Empire's conquest enticed them, but she knew it was only a matter of time before the Amarillians' lust for power would consume Tyrannis. As such, she's taken it upon herself to be the first of the Keeneyes to go to Tyrannis, explore its wilds, and investigate the Empire's efforts. Bramble's highest hope is to find a new home for her people there. But if that's not possible, she will settle for preventing the Empire's 'civilization' of another bastion of nature.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Explore and learn about Tyrannis while keeping tabs on the Empire's colonization efforts, and taking action against it if the need arises.
When the dangers of a siege loomed on the horizon of the peaceful burrows that Ozyre lived in, none of the gnomes within were prepared, least of all Ozyre himself. At the time, he was a humble librarian, but when he saw his home in danger his adventurous spirit grew threefold. He travelled across the land, trying to find somebody or something that would save his kin, but all the adventurers he found were too busy and all the mercenaries too pricy. Yet, despite all his failures, he eventually stumbled upon something interesting in his travels. A dragon-scorched ruin, walls covered in inscriptions, with the burnt bones of giants slotted neatly into tombs.
Luckily, he had picked up Giant back in the library, so he was able to read the runes--and realize their innate power. He studied and he transcribed for almost a month, gathering all the knowledge that hadn't been charred long ago. When he was certain he got all the information he could from the place, he returned to his village, arming his kin with the runes he found. He remained the most masterful of the numerous new runesmiths, and he was the only one capable of using the runes of Strength, which he tattooed over most of his body to gain physical power belied by his small form. As such, when the threat finally came, it was natural for him to be the one to lead the gnomes to victory. Quite frankly, he's been riding that high ever since.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: The possibility of finding never-before seen runes and artifacts was too promising to pass up. And anyways, Ozyre's adventuring spirit never really shrunk back down to normal size.
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Hello all. Thank you for your applications so far. I’m enjoying reading what you cooked up. I’ll wait a couple more days before making my decision. I’ll try to PM the players I selected by end of Monday to early Tuesday. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to PM me for questions about lore or anything else.
The King of Byrrania was paranoid that his throne would be taken. Of course, if he should die of a natural cause, his son could take his throne. But if his son grew up and took it from him, and he lost the power to which he so desperately cleaved during his life, then he would lose everything. He loved gold like a vampire loves blood. He had a son, strong and healthy at birth, and he knew his son would be cunning and handsome too since it was the nature of a half-elf (The kings would usually take elven women as their wives, as they were the most beautiful). And so, being corrupted by the lust for power, he decided to kill the boy. But he couldn't bring himself to do it. And so he sent his servant to finish the job.
22 Years Later...
Kygga walked into the back of the bar, the smell of wine lingering in the air. At the table was a muscular half-orc, a noble known for spending his money rather unwisely when it came to fashion. He had silver bands on his wrists, and wearing a fine toga laced with silver. Kygga was a charlatan, and ready for a challenge. "You have a very fine sense of fashion, I must say," Kygga told the noble as he sat down. "Many nobles I've seen just wear whatever is shiny. May I buy you a drink?" Kygga knew that buying him anything was pointless, seeing how rich he was. But this was necessary to draw him in. "Of course." The noble told him. "But I can pay for my own." Kygga knew he would say that. "You know, you really look great in white. How do I look? I'm visiting my in-laws later today." The noble studied him in his flashy red clothing, then noticed the ruby ring on his hand. It was fake, of course, but nobody knew that. "The ring is... flashy." the noble replied as a man handed them their drinks. Kygga waited for him to drink because drunk people were more likely to believe him.
But as he was about to sell the ring, he overheard another table where two heavily accented mean were talking: "We're talkin' big money, Marv. Big money for whoever can help." "Yeah, could get famous, those folks." Kygga thought back to when he was a kid. Everyone laughed at him. "You're nobody, Cry-ga. Go home." This was his chance. He could be somebody. He was more than a charlatan. He was tired of the shadows.
His story has just begun.
Note: My character is proficient in 6 skills and expertise in 2 more, with three more proficiencies next level, so I can adjust to the party's needs well.
Class: Evocation Wizard or Wildfire Druid depending on the party's needs!
Race: V. Human
Background: Customized Outlander
Backstory: 11/12 year old (she doesn't remember) Ember is a wild child. She was adopted and raised by an old, gnome wizard she knows only as Grandpa Zulgrim, who found her when she was two years old asleep in a burned-down house in the forest (hence her name, as she looked like an ember in the coals with her red hair). After Grandpa suddenly left one day with nothing left behind but a handwritten note with one word, “Tyrannis,” and his red squirrel familiar, Aganazzar ("Aggie"), she was left to survive on her own for years before finally becoming so lonely she decided to go looking for him.
She has an affinity for fire magic and a bit of an obsession with fire in general. She’s sweet with a happy and positive disposition, but is absolutely feral (think Son Goku in Dragonball). Hates water and baths. Always on the lookout for food. Wildly impulsive and not used to being around others and doesn’t remember social etiquette (sits under tables to eat, doesn’t understand personal space, etc). She quickly becomes attached to people, especially if they’re nice to her, after being alone for so long. Also a slight hoarder of knick knacks that remind her of her grandfather. She's terrified of the dark and always sleeps with a small flame beside her.
The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: To find her grandfather.
Name:Thurodim Skullcrusher Race: Human (Variant) Class: Barbarian (Bear Totem Warrior) Background: Outlander Backstory: A proud warrior of the northern tundras, young Thurodim always had found serenity away from battles, watching nature around him, feeling a deep connection to it. Once of age, the tribe's shaman imparted upon Thurodim the knowledge to draw upon the power of the bear, the tribe's venerated totem. While away on a raid towards the soft peoples of the south, a peculiar book among the loot caught the young barbarians attention. Practicing his reading with it, Thurodim realized it was a book of poetry and it immediately awakened a new passion in his big heart, writing poetry dedicated to the nature around him. Unfortunately Thurodim didn't turn out to have much talent and was quickly laughed out of the tent at the tribe's poetry night. Disappointed with not being recognized as a true poet, Thurodim left for new lands, finding his way south where his talent would get appreciated. Not finding himself comfortable with the civilization of the great cities, the young barbarian found his way on a ship, taking him to new rough and untamed lands where his future would be bright. To earn a living until being discovered and published, Thurodim is meeting a certain Brugg at the Wailing Wench tavern.
(If possible, Thurodim would want to have a small notebook and a pen for his bad poetry and/or a pet pocket mouse called Mr. Bleeches that he picked up in the city. Mr. Bleeches is the only one so far seemingly taking Thurodim's poetry passion seriously.)
Backstory:Nicholashails from a long line of adventurers - monster hunters to be precise. Throughout generations they tangled with all manner of monstrosities, amassing wealth, knowledge, powerful artifacts, and most important of all: enemies. Their success made them arrogant, and so when the attack came they were all but wiped off the map. The family estate and everything within was lost, burned to the ground. Entire branches of the family tree extinguished in a single night of horror. The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Across the Amarillian Empiremembers of the Achardfamily were being exterminated by an unseen foe. With their numbers dwindling, Nicholas made the decision to flee the main continent, hoping to escape whatever evil hunted him.

Myrin's particular order uses robe colour to distinguish specialty, brown for apprentice, black for life arts, white for light arts, red for combat arts, purple for research, gray for Peacekeepers, green for nature arts, blue for wayfarers, orange for space/time, and yellow for barrier mages

It’ll be on the forums but I can make a discord channel for out of game discussion if there is interest for it.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

Name: Thurodim Skullcrusher
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Barbarian (Bear Totem Warrior)
Background: Outlander
Backstory: A proud warrior of the northern tundras, young Thurodim always had found serenity away from battles, watching nature around him, feeling a deep connection to it.

The reason you traveled to Tyrannis: Across the Amarillian Empire members of the Achard family were being exterminated by an unseen foe. With their numbers dwindling, Nicholas made the decision to flee the main continent, hoping to escape whatever evil hunted him.
