Pulling his balloon elephant by the string, Xivros suggests, "The Hall of Illusions sounds mighty compellin'. But ah wouldn't mind visitin with a pixie or two."He gives Robing a grin. To Brenviel he comments, "You know, that missin cat liked playin with a mirrored ball, maybe that would get a reaction in the right location."
"Perhaps it would be wise to divide and conquer once more, though, if we find an entrance to the other side, who knows if it will stay open for all of us to find, it is a tough choice, I say the rest of you vote on it, to be fair."

"I'll vote to stay together, so we can act together if we find anything", says Robin. "I just found out about the other things going on as we were talking. And if we find a portal, we aren't likely to get the chance to come back and get anyone."
Brenviel looks up at the collection of balloon animals and back around at the group.
I’d rather stick together if we have the time, this place makes it too easy to get lost if we split up. But if we do need to cover more ground in less time, maybe the balloons help us spot each other from a distance? If we let go of the string, could the balloon float up in the air above the crowds? That could serve as a signal to everyone else that we’ve found something and to come meet at that spot.
"That's a darn good idea, though I'd have to give up Elly, here." His pink elephant drifting along beside him contentedly."Ah don't might stayin' together."
Though it wasn't in his nature to 'take charge' Xivros felt like there was enough of a consensus to go with it. "To the Hall of Illusion." He announced, pointing in the wrong direction until someone kindly corrected him.
Brenviel nodded in agreement. They fell in step beside Xivros, holding tightly to their balloon displacer kitten and scanning the crowd around them to gauge any odd behavior amidst the carnival-goers.
OOC: cold Brenviel perhaps make a perception check on the way toward the hall of illusions, to see if they spot any more folks acting oddly, or signs of the witches that were mentioned earlier?
OOC: Yes, that is appropriate, since you are actively looking for something. Otherwise, I use your passive numbers (aka Take 10). Also, repeating the description as you approach...
This large tent is painted with a mural of shifting images that show grinning faeries diving into pools of color. The helical stripes of the tent’s pointed canopies rotate in spirals, and the whole display seems designed to befuddle onlookers. A clown (Candlefoot as some of you already know) dressed in muted garb stands at the tent’s entrance, blinking at you.
A glass cabinet stands near the entrance to this tent.

As they walk to the hall of illusions, Robin says "Fake Wings", loudly enough the party can hear, but others would have to be nearby and make a perception check.
As soon as she notices that the others have heard (they raise their heads or turn in her direction or such) she continues.
"Paying customers are issued fake fairy wings. So those who haven't paid are running around without wings. Perfect targets for whoever is stealing things. I'll be looking for anyone without fake wings, and whoever is talking to them."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
dnd beyond isn't letting me roll the dice by clicking on the thing anymore, I've fixed it now, the roll below was a 20 at time of edit Marwan hears whispering a bit, 1Perception he tries to listen in. he hears it very well, so he will look in the crowd as well, for anything unusual as well as for a lack of wings.
Xivros notices the glass cabinet near the Hall of Illusions is not empty. A wooden mannequin of a grinning, raven-haired young woman in witch’s attire and a green flowing cape hovers inside a glass cabinet. At the top of the cabinet, a sign reads “Tasha the Wizard—Known for Her Hideous Laughter.”
A halfling couple holds hands as they approach the glass cabinet. One of the halflings is wearing butterfly face paint. As he drops to one knee and pulls a small box from his pocket, his sweetheart bursts into laughter and begins rolling on the ground. The halfling in face paint begins sobbing and darts into the nearby tent without getting his ticket punched.
Marwan sees a kenku briefly as he seems to be watching you from the crowd. Briefly, because then it seems to disappear, replaces by a chubby dwarf in a hooded cloak. Could the knku have disguised itself so quickly?
Brenviel finds a creature without fairy wings, but it is quite disconcerting. A toad-like creature, sitting in a dead tree, watching the crowd intently. He seems focused on a harengon (rabbit-person playable race) who is clearly annoyed by his fake wings. The harengon also sees the toad, which immediately hops behind the tree and disappears from view.

The harengon turns around and around, reaching for the wings with his front paws. First he reaches this way, then that. All the while he turns, as if the wings will somehow stay put so he can reach them. His face is a picture of concentration, his long ears are laid back on his head, and he is muttering irritably under his breath. Although he notices the toad in the tree, he pays it little mind, as wrapped up as he is in trying to reach his own wings to try and make them more comfortable.
This display lasts a good few seconds before he unwinds and stops with a dual realisation. First, he realises he will not be able to reach his wings in the way that he is trying to do so. Second, he realises that he has, literally, got turned around and cannot remember which way he was going.
"Oh dear," he says to himself as he looks about in some confusion. "Oh dear, oh dear. Which way... oh, where was I going?"
His eyes come to rest on Brenviel, Robin, Marwan, and Xivros, perhaps attracted by their magnificent balloon animals. He steps over to them.
"Hello," he says, his nose twitching nervously. "I don't suppose you could help me, could you? It's just that... I can't remember which way I was going."
(How much of this does Robin see? Is the Kenku/Dwarf wearing the butterfly wings? Does the halfling not punching his ticket gain her notice of looking for targets of the thieves? What about the toady?)
"I'm going to guess" Robin says to the Harengon. "You're looking for something you lost the last time you visited the Carnival."
Brenviel points in the direction that the toad-creature hopped away toward. “Follow that hopper! Mr. Harengon I think it was trying to steal from you!”
Robin says "Are we sticking together or splitting up? I think I could communicate at Pixie Kingdom, unless we want to start somewhere else."

18 perception for Robin to see if there's anyone in the crowd without "fairy" wings, and anyone talking to them.
