Reuniting the Band

Starker:”Cyrus, reach towards a side with a landing and you should go there. Stay with whomever is at that level with uou for the moment

<gently hops up and if he floats he goes up to library and reaches towards it.>. if he ends in the library he does his Starkerest best to pick out books and items of interest.

Kragen investigates the library for anything of value which might assist their escape from this plane.

The library level is filled with book cases, overstuffed chairs, book holders and tables.  The book cases are all enclosed with wood and glass doors.  Each is locked upon trying to open them.  Many tomes and scrolls are kept safely behind the glass.

Trolkarl continues upwards to the next level.  This level is paved in green and white tiles.  An alchemy cabinet and bench are on one side.  Tables and instruments for conducting experiments of all kinds are here has well.  The ceiling here is made of stone.  The magic field in the center of the tower's shaft ends at the floor level of the laboratory level.

There is a stairwell along one of the walls between two of the four windows similar to those on the previous two levels.  The stairs lead upwards through the floor to the next level.

Starker peers through the glass and tries to ascertain ehich of the enclosures is most likely to hold something useful.

calling up and down the shaft:”We have several locked cabinets here. Perhaps Xymox could attempt to pick the locks of one of our doughty fighters could break the glass in this, our case of emergency.” 

steps into the elevator firld and heads to lab level. Looks for anything related to planar travel or any keys.

Starker’s investigation shows the li tart to be a well stocked library, likely curated by a wizard.  Tomes labeled with titles of arcane magic fill the shelves.  There are unlabeled book/tomes as well as well organized collections of scrolls.  Attempts to unlock the cabinets are unsuccessful, similar to the doors below.  Chadwick gets sore knuckles after his attempt to break the glass.  Feels like he punched a stone wall.

Searching the lab area shows this to be a well-appointed experimentation facility.  Equipment of wide ranging capability is neatly arranged on tables and workbenches.  Alchemical reagents from common to exceedingly rare are stored in jars/bottles and boxes.

After completing the search, it dawns on you that the entire tower does not have a ‘lived in’ feel.  Everything you would expect to find is there.  But, it is all too neat and tidy.

Xymox: "I'm not sure that we have time for window shopping.  We could snap back to the abyss at any moment, and I'm currently in the possession of an arch-lich's most precious items."  Looks around "We need a way to out material plane now."

Serethia, “Agreed.”  Though said while looking longingly towards the enclosed archive.

Kellen rises up through the center of the tower, clearly uncomfortable.  He awkwardly steps out to the laboratory level, catching his step.

Cyrus grabs a sack and starts to sack the rarest of the slchemical reagents as pointed to by Starker. 

Starker:”We have a scroll of dispel magic. Shall we attempt to use it on the barrier preventing us from ascending to the top?”

Serethia points to the stairs leading upwards, “Alternatively, we could walk up those?”

Starker:”i assumed it was blocked. I have become somewhat dispirited.”

<trudges up the stairs>

“You and me, both,” she says climbing next to Starker.

If Xymox finds nothing of use or interest, he will join the others, climbing the stairs.

Xymox finds nothing else.  The place is fairly tidy.

The steps are climbed up to the next tier of the tower.  'How mundane,' more that one of you think after using the elevating shaft for the initial four levels.  Nevertheless, you Old School-it up to the landing of the stair and find yourselves in an open space of the entire tier of the tower.  It is an apartment laid out before you, but without any walls.  There is a kitchen area with stocked pantry of shelves, oven, fire pit with a spit, cooking vessels and utensils to your left.  A dining table with a few chairs around it is next to this.   There is a sitting area with comfortable chairs and a sofa.  A burning brazier giving off no smoke sits near this as well as several end tables and a low table in front of the sofa.  There is a large desk with a comfortable, high-backed chair.  Writing instruments and ink pots are on the desk.  There appears to be a piece of paper lying on the desk in front of the chair.  There is a large, four-poster bed that is adorned with silk and other fine fabrics.  Several pillows are at the head of the bed.  Neatly tucked into bed is a desiccated corpse wearing a silk robe and a comfortable looking fleece hat, all in blue.  There are eight windows evenly distributed around the perimeter of the room.  All are shuttered and closed.  The stairs continue up to the ceiling where you see a trap door in the ceiling.

Kragen eyes the desk and looks at Starker. "Want to find out of that note has anything of nterest, ill check the body in the bed."

Kragen approaches thr bed cautiously, investigating the corpse.
