Kragen is busily studying his new reference manual and gains the benefit of +2 WIS when he completes it.
Starker learns two new spells to add to his book costing him 150gp in inks and materials as well as most of a morning. He then dedicates his time to finding an interested sage in the library and studying the quipu found in Illiandil's library.
Yartol paces, prowls, snacks, paces, sharpens his arrows, practices with his bow, paces, is snappy when spoken to and spars with the guards in their training area when able.
Yartol, now kneels before the company. He begs for the life of his wife, Allindra, to be spared. Do what you will with him.
Allindra, fearful and defiant. She stands before you, proud as any elf was claimed to be, bargaining for their lives to be spared.
Gryndrenur, wicked and cruel. The dragon, now dead, held these two captive for years. She demanded service of Yartol to keep his wife alive, and intact.
The story told by Yartol and Allindra began with a group of adventurers many years ago. They heard of a dragon in the north with a hoard of treasure that would make them rich beyond dreams, and they had tremendous dreams. Their party tracked the dragon to its lair and entered to slay it. The dragon was too cunning. In the end, Allindra was taken alive and Yartol was found to have lived after being left for dead. Gryndrenur saw opportunity. She sent Yartol forth to bring more victims, and more treasure, to its lair. As cunning and cruel as Gryndrenur was, she was also lazy. Many years passed with Yartol bringing groups he hoped would finally defeat the dragon. Some came close, but none survived. Their captivity and torment continued. The dragon using its magic to dominate and control the pair through wanton wickedness and terror.
Yartol now only wants Allindra to be set free. He is ready to pay for the many crimes he has committed through deceit and treachery. The faces and screams are more than he can bear at this point. His only desire, the only thing he would fight for now, is gaining Allindra's freedom. She is elven and has a long life before her to recover from their ordeal.
Allindra will not hear of losing Yartol at this point. She loves him and will defend him to her last breath. She offers her Censer of Controlling Air Elementals and Glimmering Ring (Homebrew item you can find in Inventory). She also has a Brooch of Shielding she offers as well. She will point out where the best treasures are from the dragon's hoard, frozen in many inches of ice along the walls of the ruined great hall of the dwarves.
Below you is a horde of kobolds, kept in check only by the dragon. Anyone that will survive this must be leaving soon. If you want the best of the treasures, and Allindra's items, she will show you where and how to get them. In exchange, she and Yartol are allowed to start over. Hopefully, they can do something to make amends for all of the death they have been a part of as puppets of Gryndrenur.
My instinct would be to ask the make a vow to never again do evil and allow them to walk in shame. Yartol was a trusted friend who betrayed us, but I have empathy for his motives to save his loved one.
But on reflection, they unfortunately already forfeited many opportunities for redemption. The arrows fired at me and the lightning bolt fired at us should have went to the dragon. They continued to collaborate with the dragon until the very end. Had we lost that battle then there would surely be more betrayals and more deaths. They had every opportunity to help end that cycle but their actions were to continue serving the dragon until the very end. They were deceitful, conspired with the beast to murder innocents, and supported him in battle against the company.
Starker, speaking without malice, like a student called upon to comment on a syllogism:”They tricked The Company, played us for fools. Our reputation is an irrecoverable asset that they can tarnish at any time by telling their tale. We mustn’t allow that. The only way to guarantee their silence is to kill them. They must die that our reputation might live. Let us do it quickly, take their valuables and what we can from the hoard and then let us leave before the coming of the kobolds.”

/OOC: Supposedly, Allindra will show us where the most valuable loot is, if we don't kill her. I get the feeling that we will not have time to scavenge for treasure.

Assuming the traitors are bond and gaged by The Company. Kragen ensures The Company members are speaking in discretion, out of earshot of Yartol and Allindra.
Quietly to the others "Although Mage Starker speaks with logic, Yartol and his compatriot should be Judged for their heinous acts committed. Our reputation is built on integrity, capability and diplomatic prowess (looks at Trolkarl). Bringing these 2 to justice for the countless lives they have condemned to death, would only be fitting. We need not act as the Harbinger and taint our reputation." looks at Allindra "Have her identify where the most valuable items are and be done with it."
"We can transport them to an adjudicator forth right."

My understanding is that there is no local adjudicator.
Allindra gives Starker a long stare in the eyes. “You cannot hope to intimidate me. Nothing you do or threaten will begin to approach the entry level stuff she did,” pointing to the dragon. “Once each of you swears an oath that we live, I will be happy to show you where the good stuff is. We will swear as well. Until then, spare us the theatrics.”
Starker, looking at her as though she were an interesting discolored patch in a petri dish:<sniffs>”Father Kragen, I defer to you. You know my thoughts. You know how well I think.”
Takes out small replica of the ethereal chest and summons its larger counterpart.
“Let us fill this with treasure and then let us leave.”
This treasure and our reputation are the least of my concerns.
There was a program in place for a long time to bring people here to be murdered. These two not only got the people here, they also participated in the murders.
These were not incapable commoners. Both were trained adventurers like us. They used their resources against us in this fight rather than against the dragon. She can point out the best treasure because she saw it gathered and took part in the killing of its owners
Would we have given Craddock the same opportunity with this gaes, had he surrendered?
Kragen hears the others and their rationale, considers the input and then consults with Tyr. You see Kragen, remove the Eyes of the Eagle, places them into his belt pouch and close his eyes, beginning a soft prayer to Tyr.
After about 30 seconds, his eyes open and a steely resolve comes across his face.
"Tyr has considered the arguments presented, So Be It!" Walks to Yartol, looks him directly in the eyes, you see a brief flash of compassion and empathy, he recovers his composure and turns to ice (commensurate with the surroundings). "Yartol the Ranger: by your own admission, you have committed countless atrocities against the innocent inhabitants of Faerûn, fueling the greed and hubris of the dragon Gryndrenur. As an adjudicator of the Justice Bringer, I hereby condemn you to death for your crimes against the people of this land. May you bask in Tyr’s radiance one last time before your soul departs for the gray wastes of Hades."
Kragen reaches up and grabs the bound Ranger by the back of the Tunic and guides him over to a downed tree in the Dwarven stronghold grove. Looks to Chadwick.

Kragen is sad at what has transpired, empathetic to their plight however the Scales of Justice will define their fate! 😉

Xymox stares down at Yartol for a long moment.
When he speaks, the music in his voice is gone.
“My first instinct,” he says plainly, “was to kill you where you kneel.”
The words land hard in the frozen hall.
“You betrayed us.”
His eyes narrow.
“You led us into the jaws of a dragon knowing exactly what waited there.”
“You fired arrows at companions who trusted you.”
A quiet pause.
“I have killed for less.”
His gaze shifts to Allindra.
“And love—however tragic—does not erase the screams of those you delivered to that creature.”
His fingers drum once on the pommel of his scimitar.
“Make no mistake.”
“My first judgment was death.”
A long silence.
Then he exhales.
“But I have had a moment to think and I have come up with two potential options."
I. The Oath of Chains
Xymox folds his arms slowly.
“Execution would be simple.”
He gestures to the dragon’s corpse.
“And rather poetic.”
His eyes flick toward Kragen.
“But Tyr’s scales are rarely satisfied by simple answers.”
He looks back to the couple.
“So here is the mercy you do not deserve, but may yet earn.”
He steps closer.
“You will swear an oath.”
“A magical one.”
“Before Tyr, before this Company, and before whatever powers still care to listen.”
His voice sharpens.
“You will spend the remainder of your lives hunting the same monsters you once fed.”
“Dragons. Tyrants. Slavers.”
“You will save the lives you once condemned.”
“And if you break that oath…”
He shrugs lightly.
“The magic kills you.”
A faint, humorless smile.
“Justice. With supervision.”
Xymox walks around a moment, then holds up two fingers.
"Or second..."
II. The Company's Ledger
Xymox crouches slightly so his eyes meet Yartol’s.
“You told us the truth tonight.”
“That earns you exactly one thing.”
He taps the stone floor with a gloved finger.
“Time.”
He stands again.
“I propose a Geas placed upon both of you.”
“Twenty years.”
“You will serve the innocent.”
“Protect travelers.”
“Warn adventurers of dangers like the one you served.”
“No deception. No manipulation.”
His voice hardens.
“You will spend every waking day undoing the damage you caused.”
“If you refuse… or flee…”
He gestures toward Kragen.
“The spell ends you.”
A small shrug.
“You wanted a chance to redeem yourselves.”
“Congratulations.”
“You would now have a lifetime assignment.”
The bard looks about The Company.
"These are my thoughts. I 'am of course, open to ......other ideas." He looks at Chadwick and Kragen.
"Oh, and then there is the dragon's treasure...of course." He scowls at Allindra.
Starker, speaking without malice, like a student called upon to comment on a syllogism:”They tricked The Company, played us for fools. <is this disccusion about the 2 betrayers happe ing via rge Company net?, if not, should be discussed out of their purview.>

(( so close to being a 23… ))
