Xymox, now visible, brings up the rear as they trudge along with their kobold captors. "I wonder if there isn't a passage to The Underdark down here somewhere." He rolls his eyes, exasperated.
Chadwick considers for a moment of leaving the spirits up and summoning Freya to chase after them, but worries about the retaliation against his friends so cancels the spell instead.
The kobolds lead you down the steps on the SW part of the map. There is a long hall with doors on either side. You are taken to one of the first door and led into an apartment with a common living and cooking area with what appear to be three sleeping rooms connected.
Several bedrolls are brought as well as buckets of water, oats, dried meats, fungi and dried berries. A cookpot is there as well.
The White Kobold arrives. This is apparently their leader. He speaks Draconic, “You stay here. Cook meals in hearth down hall. Ask first. Chamber pots across hall. Ask first. No problems, stay unhurt. Problems…,” he then grimaces(?). That is your best guess.
Chadwick paces around the area looking like he might chew his way out through the mountain. Finally he stops. Mutters something to himself, then stacks his weapons and armor in neat piles to be easy donned. He then sits down crosslegged and closes his eyes and begins to pray. Eventually his lips stop moving, and he continues to sit, eyes closed, breathing slowed. Nobody has ever seen him this still before, even sleeping he is in near constant motion.
Starker recalls Cyrus from his pocket dimension, asks him to awaken him should something odd eventuate, and takes a long rest.
during waking hours he works to interpret the Quipu of Illiandal.
He has a grim and determined affect, and occassionally chuckles and writes a short note or draws a sketch in his notebook. Those who catch a glimpse of the sketches see they are of novel torture devices.
when The Company is allowed back into the hoard chamber he casts Detect Magic and has Jievs make a pile of the magic-emitting items, if any.
Starker looks up from his study of the quipu, smiles wryly, and says “Fascinating …
“Friends and Colleagues, Illiandel was a pawn of a universe destroying entity that eats individuality and comsumes probability. Illiandel’s unkenning efforts in effect were constructing an adit into our universe for this entity. Though the portal wasn’t completed it remains a thin spot in the walls between universes. It seems that Kellistor or some other researcher has taken over the tasks which will lead to the portal being completed and our existence extinguished. This would be inconvenient as I am in the middle of an experiment.
”We need to communicate this to Xaxygy immediately. Can anyone contact him?”
During the three days Starker holds several conversations with the kobold wizard in Draconic. The last ends with Starker handing him a moss agate.
When The Company is alone: “The kobolds are simple miners who were terrorized by the dragon and manipulated by the witch. They see us as saviors. My colleague has told me their story. They are more to be pitied than hated. Let us reserve our hatred to those who deserve it.”
The three years....days pass by without incident. The kobolds actually seem to be treating you with respect. Starker and their leader, the White Kobold, have long conversations in Draconic. Finally, the time of your freedom arrives. Two of them carry in a large chest and set it down in the main room. The lid is removed to reveal gold and platinum coins as well as several items of interest. On top of all of this is a folded piece of parchment.

A painting depicting an overcast sky above a range of mountains.
The kobolds lead you up to the doors of the mine entrance. A dozen of them escort you through the traps set in the scree field leading down from the mountain. At the bottom the White Kobold points to the SW, "Human city."
The White Kobold hands starker a scale from the white dragon.

Kragen responds to this news "Not surprising that they were used as pawns in the Dragons broader scheme. Now that "their Queen" has fled, are they willing to defy her order if they truly see us as saviors? Will they release us and go about their business?"
When the kobolds bring in the treasure Chadwick asks Starker to relay a message.
"Starker, could you please ask them if it would be possible for us to retrieve some effects of the deceased? Especially things like holy symbols. We aren't asking for anything valuable or magical. If the holy symbols are of precious metal I'll reemburse them for twice the value. "
He then spots the painting and chuckles. "Who would have thought this thing would have survived? It certainly didn't have much value to us a couple of years ago, but now I know the farmers at MonstorDrink would find it invaluable.
It took awhile, but we finally got our revenge. We should write Hoid and tell him we have avenged his pony."

Starker believes that would be a hard NO. The Queen out ranks you in their esteem. Like dividing by 0. Wait the three days and you can go.
Kragen smirks and responds to Xymox's lilting melody. "The Scales of Justice never wait!" Continues on thinking about how to best bring Yartol and that Wench to Justice.
The Company heads in the direction indicated by the kobolds. Two days of travel bring them into the foothills of the mountains. A settlement is there, Bruntun. It is a mining outpost much like Shalecliff. There is an inn there with rooms and a hot meal. You easily learn that you are now east of Mirabar. It is a hard day’s ride to the city, or, two on foot.
At some point in the journey Chadwick will summon Freya at 3rd level. No gear to ride, but he likes her company. He'll inquire about the necessary riding gear when they get to Bruntun. And also a bag of apples.
Uk has a hard time with the question then gets it. Anything like that of precious metals was melted down and fashioned into other things. Otherwise, it would be lost amongst the refuse scattered about.

"Rando Dragon Attack" I believe it was called.......
As The Company leaves the kobold stronghold and a few miles are put behind them...
Eventually Xymox pulls out his violin.
A slow melody begins to form.
He writes a title on parchment.
“The Dragon’s Bargain.”
Under it he adds:
How Love, Fear, and Uncomfortable Ethics Nearly Killed the Company.
He looks up at the others.
“Don’t worry.”
“I’ll make everyone sound wise.”
A pause.
“…even the people who tried to hold a trial in the middle of a kobold invasion.”
Cleary, the latest events and how they unfolded have effected the bard.
Kragen smirks and responds to Xymox's lilting melody. "The Scales of Justice never wait!" Continues on thinking about how to best bring Yartol and that Wench to Justice.

Riding gear and apples easy to find
Kragen asks a local for the best Inn in town?
(starker would have made the request about holy symbols to Uk)
The town is small. There is a single inn.
Uk has a hard time with the question then gets it. Anything like that of precious metals was melted down and fashioned into other things. Otherwise, it would be lost amongst the refuse scattered about.
