Xymox's words seem to have a calming effect upon the shifting men. Even Dax seems to relent a bit from his outward display of hostility. "Mister, we ain't the ones slipping about with our words not matching our mouths. That is you," Peek states.
Dax squints at all of you at once. Seems to be a special ability of his. "Hoid told us of a group he used to lead. Said 'being around them all the time made him angry' he said. The Shining Steel company is his home now. If you know him, tell me what clan he claims as his family," he demands. He is less hostile, but not seeming to be trusting yet.
The first guard looks up and says, "There's a little black spot on the sun today."
The fourth then shrugs it off, "It's the same ol' thing as yesterday."
Looks up at the treetops for black hats while recalling the words of Hoid
This may have been before your days, Xymox. But I do recall, this may have been just before we went to Mother Goose's land together, he claimed I do not know where I am from, and I do not know my family. I know my compatriots, but they are recent memories
That said, he did always have a very unique relationship with Chadwick. Maybe he has shared stories of thinking of him as a son or stepson of sorts. But no, probably not. I am guessing that he still claims that he doesn't know his family.
Wondering if Xymox is uncomfortable sharing this information from an event he wasn't present at. Trolkarl steps forward and meets Dax's squinting gaze
Friend, you ask a fair question, and I will give you a fair answer.
Hoid never claimed any clan, nor any homeland. Whether by some affliction of the mind, a curse laid upon him, the man had no memory of his family or where he hailed from. He spoke of his companions as recent acquaintances, never of kin. As for his temper, he was so easy to disturb, with a thought, with a whisper. We learned that well enough.
If he has since found a home with the Shining Steel, then I am glad of it. But if you are waiting to hear me name some clan he calls his own, well, his were careless memories, scattered and lost to him. He had none to give.

Dax listens to Trolkarl and nods, “Aye, that’s him. Hope he will be happy to see you when we get back to camp.” He looks about for a minute after lowering his weapon. Peek and the others follow suit. “We camped last night. The stars were strange. Seemed to shift about. Kind of like you lot are doing. On the sunrise, I walked out to try to find a new day. But, the whole place just screamed in my eye,” he seems at a loss to describe what he is sensing. “Now you are here shifting about like everything around us. We all are just fine,” he adds.
Starker:”Perhaps the effect will wane the further we get from the tower. Am I right that you were recently near Kellistor’s Tower? Regardless, let us find Friend Hoid quickly.”

Careless Memories? Really? 🤣

There are no trees.
But trees are needed to ensure atmospheric minimums are maintained for Faerun life??
They’re all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw.
Those oaks are just too lofty, and they grab up all the light..
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
(( Response to the Shining Steel mercenaries? ))
