Cirrus Magnus climbs down the cliff face with little effort. He gets to the edge of Starker's ability to assume his senses. Looking about, he sees many corpses littering the bottom of the cliff face. There are several that appear to be fresh and dressed as townsfolk from Shalecliff.
“Thank you Starker, for putting your friend in danger to verify the fate of the villagers. I think we have good evidence, it unfortunate tha this evil persists.” “We have a decision, stay and try to vanquish this evil or return to shalecliff and report our findings?”
“If what we saw are wraiths, and they inhabit the tower, we are ill equipped to fight them. Relying on silvered daggers for foes that powerful seems ill advised.”
“True, but those argent blades will be supplemented by the globe’s Daylight and at least a few of us will be Protected from Evil. And perhaps our watery holy hand grenades will be useful if we remember to count to 5 before throwing them. Yesterday we accounted for more than a dozen orcs and a blue dragonling … who knows what we can accomplish today? I, for one, am very curious now to see what treasures are hidden in this tower”
Then let’s catch up with the other three targets, uh, companions to improve our odds and head back to town to collect our thoughts and silver broadswords.
You gather your things and the treasure collected from the dragon's hoard and head north. The sun is heading towards the horizon, but you have several hours before sunset. When you start to head north along the river you see a wagon approaching in the distance. It is pulled by two horses and has two persons in the front of it. They are headed south at a trot, which is fast given the lack of road.
The distance between you is closed quickly. You see two in heavy armor at the front of the wagon. A third is in the wagon bed. Once they are close enough you recognize them to be Bessia, Galban and Jotrun. Each is in full battle gear.
Galban pulls the wagon to a stop, “Well, it is good to see you alive. Aadan told us about his patrol and the night you spent last night. Have you learned anything else?”
Bessia nods beside Galban, “Shalecliff is recovering. We were concerned we had not heard anything from you for these two days.”
Jotrun stands in the back of the wagon with his gleaming splint armor with a good dwarven resting scowl face.
“Friendly faces are most welcome. It was not our intention to cause any worry. We returned to the ruins to scour the dragon’s lair, attempt to breach the tower, and confront the wraiths we believe may inhabit the tower. Alas, we only were able to unearth some meager treasure buried in the dragon’s lair. The tower remains beyond our grasp.
We decided to return to report unfortunate findings. It appears the six captured villagers were victims of sacrifice. We intend to restock and return to confront the wraiths.”

Long shot, but Hoid will see if Craddick’s magic key will penetrate the magic barrier.
It does not
Starker takes Cirrus Magnus to the edge of the cliff above thd Pile-o-Corpses (™️). Will CM, M^3, scramble down so I can get a good look at the piled?

Starker recalls Cyrus Magnus and reports his observations to the group.

Perhaps there is another way into the tower. One less obvious.
We could resume digging for treasure, or return to the area tomorrow to be safe.
I don't there is any concern for someone else getting into the tower, if we can't figure it out.
I'm ok with following the path of whatever is decided.
The sun slowly drifts across the sky as you gather to discuss your next step.
“A total of six townspeople have gone missing.” Is what Starker heard back in town. Did I see 6 townie looking corpses through CM, MMM’s eyes?
Yes. There were six fresh corpses.
Then let’s catch up with the other three targets, uh, companions to improve our odds and head back to town to collect our thoughts and silver broadswords.

Hoid will wave to the approaching strangers and head towards them at a brisk pace.
Gneuman will also run towards the wagon.
“Horses and a wagon could prove useful, but south is the wrong direction. Perhaps we can help them navigate.”
Starker will amble along behind Hoid and Gneuman.

(Starker is hoping the next words out of Jotrun’s mouth are “Hold my ale.”)
(Starker will hold off and let some member of the party who knows the wagoneers better than he does give the news.)
