The party just defeated the zombie beholder and proceeded back to the tower where Craddick the Coward and the Itsy Bitty Spider died.
Gneuman went down the well and perceived bad things.Starker joined him.
Zombie ogre attacked, was destroyed.
Water thingy attacked Gneuman, tried to drown him.Pulled him out of the well.Killed water thing.
Starker was eldritch blasted.Returned fire with a fireball and jumped into the well.
Tried to haul Starker up.He fell back down.Tried a second time. Got stuck in tentacles.Got unstuck.Fell back down.
Eldritch blast came up out of the well to hit Chadwick.
Sent spirit down to help Starker. Starker made it up the well
A horde of ghosts arose from the ground, one of which was Craddick the Coward in ghost form.Craddick got his spectral dick knocked in the dirt by Chadwick and his pretty little pony. Then Hoid strode forth to re-kill Craddick the Coward.
Craddock had risen from death into undeath. His foul influence filling the mountains with an evil fog and unnatural creatures roaming within it. Now that you have destroyed him, again, this fog seems to be dissipating. The rush of excitement upon finding the chest buried at the feet of the dead maple tree was rewarded with a new clue in the form of the ivory plaque. But, the encoded diary still remains out of comprehension. There must be something else needed to clarify that text.
The animals are all more relaxed now that a few days have passed at the tower. Ajax is flitting about. Gneuman notices that small animals seem to be returning as well.
also, assume first number on each line is page number, then find the three characters on the page denoyed bu the other numbers in each line.
that should get me four sets of three characters each.
Do they mean anything in elvish?
if not, then see if they are the left right left or right left right combbnations to the 4 combination locks.
All of these combinations are tried. The text obtained by using page number - letter number does not spell any word. Nor are you able to figure out an anagram from the letters obtained. Using these letter combinations on the locks does not yield any results. The door remains locked.
The statue of the elf in the entry hall has a rune covered staff. Starker examines them and they are generic runes of power. No message is decipherable from them. Arcana check = 11.
Kragen spends time investigating the statue of Mystra on the first level. He does not locate anything about the statue to indicate there is anything more to it than being a statue. Investigation checks = 19, 10, 12.
On the third day you spend investigating Rastagna's Tower you hear the hooves of horses approaching. The promontory offers an excellent vantage point and you see a dozen men on horseback armed with spears and crossbows headed around the mountain trail towards the tower. As they get closer you are surprised to see Olar Barder at the head of the column of horsemen. They come clattering upon the flagstones of the promontory and are happy to find you there.
"Well met, friends!," Olar calls out as he dismounts. "How did we come to find you here?," he continues as he approaches to shake your hands. Not waiting for your answer, he continues, "We are here to face whatever evil has taken residence here after your chasing off that drow wizard and his half-orc crony. The neighboring valleys have had the dead walking through them for the past weeks. Our scouts were able to determine this valley was the center of all of the activity. What did you find here?" he finally relents.
"Well met Master Barder, you are a welcome sight!" curtly nodding to Olar and his men. "We had some recent business in Granitestead and were on our way back to shalecliff. In route, we experienced the same malady that was plaguing the area, a foul dread was sensed by all, event the animals fled the area." visibly shivers. "Upon tracking the conditions to this area, we discovered that Rastagna Tower had been inhabited again."
"Upon investigating, we were set upon by evil spirits, including a Zombie Ogre, the Ghost of Craddick the Cowardly Half-Orc and a troop of ghastly undead." cringes "My Friends and I were able to cleanse the area of this evil, ensuring they never return to the living world."
"We were investigating the ruins for other foul creatures and the sources to this evil and we uncovered additional artifacts at the base of this grand Maple tree. Uncovered in those artifacts is a Ivory tablet with Elven ruins. It appears to be a sequence of numbers and some sort of pattern? Maybe you are familiar with the history of this place and why it would be buried at the base of this once majestic Maple." pauses "We have uncovered other clues that the Spider was also searching the ruins for some ancient artifacts you mentioned that are associated with the Oak Father, Silvanus."
Kragen asks Starker to hand the tablet to Olar for review.
Olar listens to Kragen's information and seems relieved. He signals to his men and they dismount from their horses to prepare camp. Ajax watches from high above in the branches of the dead maple tree.
"I do know some history of this place. The wizard Rastagna and his wife Annatha lived here long ago. She was a ranger dedicated to Sylvanus and the last known bearer of Wayfinder, the sword we have discussed before." He looks around at the ruined stump of the tower and strewn stone blocks over the edge of the promontory, "Their end came after an attack by orcs led by a drow wizard. It was a battle both martial and arcane. Annatha led their men against the orcs with devastating effect. But, the drow was powerful and his magic turned the tide of the battle." He makes what you assume is a holy gesture, "Neither was seen again. Nor was Wayfinder. No one knows why the drow and orcs attacked, or, what became of the sword afterwards."
He stops to think a bit. "Rastagna was a well-known abjurer and diviner. Many leaders sought his council. If he saw the attack coming he may have been able to prepare for it to some extent. Hiding the tablet may have been part of those preparations. Have you found anything else hidden here?"
“The tablet was buried under the maple tree, which was surprisingly devoid of roots, with 25 platinum coins, 4 gems and 2 potions.. The coins and gems were in separate silk pouches. All were together in a chest. To the best of my recollection, those are the only items we discovered this visit.”
"Additionally, we had recovered this Encoded Diary upon defeating the Spider in our previous encounter at the Tower. We suspect that the tablet and the Encoded Diary have some relation to each other however have been unable to link them." "We are not sure what the Diary holds, it seems to be a bunch of Elvish gibberish?"
Olar responds to Hoid, “That sounds like someone’s escape bag. So, perhaps they did not escape? Could that be Rastagna and Annatha’s?” He turns to Kragen, “Your friend Erbert spent time studying that book at the ranch. Frustrated him to no end. Have you had any further luck translating it?”
The men break out tents to set up their camp. One is standing by the wall of the well. “What is down here?,” he asks pointing down the well.
"Yes, Erbert expressed his frustration at the Diary. We have not had any luck either, however suspect that the Tablet may hold some clues to the translation. Do you see any link between the Tablet and the Diary? Maybe they are unrelated as the Tablet may be older than the written Diary??"
"Of what we know today, that was previously used to supply the Tower with fresh, clean water. Our first encounter it was used by the Spider to try and escape. On this trip, it contained some vile water creature that almost suffocated Cousin Gneuman, Craddick's Ghost also hid in wait there as well."
"Now that your Armsmen inquired, we had not spent any time investigating the nature of the Well? Kragen cocks his head a minute. "May be worth another look to ensure we have cleared it completely of any evil."
"Sir Chadwick, Cousin Gneuman, would you bring the Drift Globe so we can explore the passage leading to the Well and explore the Well more thoroughly? If we encounter more undead we can vanquish them and it also may require Cousin using his innate ability to explore the depths of the Well more thoroughly."
Kragen beings to prepare his things, drops his backpack in a location near the encampment and heads below to the secret passage (17) and the Well (18).
Chadwick concurs that checking to make sure that the well and tunnel are cleared from evil doers.
"Olar, if you and your men wish to investigate the tower please feel free. We've been over it several times these last few days, but another set of eyes never hurt. Perhaps we have missed a clue or something worthwhile hidden away. Even if nothing of value is found, it is an interesting look into the past."
"Starker would you be so kind to join us as we investigate the well? If there are more of those tentacles and water creatures a well placed fireball should probably make short work of them."
"Olar, could you please inform your men it might best best to remain clear of the well? Fire or fleeing creatures may arise."
Olar's men ready themselves on the promontory. Crossbows and spears are readied and the well is encircled. Starker, Kragen, Chadwick and Gneuman descend through the dungeon to the hall leading to the well. The deadbolt on the wooden door is opened and the hall beyond is empty. The barred door remains open after Gneuman picked the lock. It is dark in the hall.

Trolkarl will continue sending Eldritch Blast while we have a round.
11 and 15 to hit. 6 damage if the 15 hits
Trolkarl hits with one of the blasts. Chunks are dropping off, but the creature continues to attack.
Chadwick fires two arrows, both hitting. The creature falters and then falls to the ground into a stinking pile of rotted flesh and chitin.
Combat ends.

In addition to the Ivory Plaque recovered from the chest buried at the maple tree you have:
silk pouch - 25pp
silk pouch - Amber 100g x 2, Moonstone 50g x 2
Potion - Heroism
Potion - Climbing.
Starker is flummoxed, and oddly delighted as he now has a referrent for that adjective and an opportunity to use it in conversation:
Starker to the universe: “Whelp … I am flummoxed!”
...the universe smiles and feels pleasure at its success....
