Starker, from around the corner: “if upside down doesn’t work we could try invisible and then invisible *and* upside down. I am curious. If this is a ghost then he will be very hard for me to damage, though he might be susceptible to Magic Missiles. Just let me know when we learn something or when you would like me to attack it (from afar).”
<sends Cyrus around corner and observes the experiment through the fezzed spider monkey’s senses.>
Gneuman walks across the chamber via the ceiling. The ghost does not respond until he is near it. It backs up a bit, raising its halberd. Opening its mouth and speaking, rushing wind noise fills the room. The wind stops when the dwarf stops speaking.
Starker: “Would any of you doughty spelunkers like to be made invisible now? If not, I suggest we explore the rest of the mine and see if we can either find an alternative route to whatever he is guarding or learn anything that may help is the next time we try to answer his windy questions three.”
The tunnels dead end here. Numerous loose stones are scattered about ranging from 6” to 2’ in diameter. Several skeletons lie on the ground. Old, rusted pickaxes are on the ground near them,
The skeletons appear to be a dwarf and two humans. All three have leg irons on and a chain running to a ring set in the wall. All of the chains are rusted.
Starker:”It appears that these unfortunates tried, unsuccessfully, to use their pickaxes to break their bonds. Perhaps they died of lack of water. Perhaps they were slaves or prisoners set to their rocky task by taskmasters who never returned, having themselves fallen prey to some karmic-balancing disaster?
” … Unfortunate. The smartest of them should have killed the others using his pickaxe and extended his life by drinking the blood of his erswhile colleagues and then eating their corpses to stave off starvation. (Sighs). Well, perhaps none of them were particularly clever.”
The three skeletons appear to have been unlucky captives left here to die. After your search it is time to continue. You decide to follow the right wall. Or, up.
The tunnels come to another dead end with nothing of interest seen. Back out and to the right leads back to the chamber with the ghost. A glyph is etched into the wall here that resembles the glyph on the opposite side.
The dwarf ghost is present. It stands, watching you with its halberd at his side. When you come into view it raises its arm pointing at you. Its mouth opens and the familiar sound of wind comes out until it stops seeming to talk.
The ghost opens its mouth again, apparently trying to speak. Only blowing wind sounds come out.
In the distance, the eerie wail echoes through the mines. The ghost does not react to it.
The ceiling domes up to 25’.
Gneuman is hanging upside down from the domed ceiling. The ghost seems to keep its attention on those of you on the ground.
Starker, from around the corner: “if upside down doesn’t work we could try invisible and then invisible *and* upside down. I am curious. Gneuman will continue walking across the cave ceiling, pending reaction from dwarf ghost.
Gneuman walks across the chamber via the ceiling. The ghost does not respond until he is near it. It backs up a bit, raising its halberd. Opening its mouth and speaking, rushing wind noise fills the room. The wind stops when the dwarf stops speaking.
Gneuman will retreat and join the others.
"There is your answer, I guess."
Starker: “Would any of you doughty spelunkers like to be made invisible now? If not, I suggest we explore the rest of the mine and see if we can either find an alternative route to whatever he is guarding or learn anything that may help is the next time we try to answer his windy questions three.”
Hoid: “We can try invisibility later. Let’s save your spell for now and explore the rest of the mine.”
The party token has been moved to the next tunnel in the search pattern.
The mine passages continue ahead. After a short distance, there is a fork in the tunnel.
South passage
The south tunnel quickly come to a four way intersection.
West
The tunnels dead end here. Numerous loose stones are scattered about ranging from 6” to 2’ in diameter. Several skeletons lie on the ground. Old, rusted pickaxes are on the ground near them,
Is the species of the skeletons identifiable? Dwarf or orc sized?
Move to the south tunnel next.
Hoid makes an Investigation check = 10
The skeletons appear to be a dwarf and two humans. All three have leg irons on and a chain running to a ring set in the wall. All of the chains are rusted.
Starker examines the bones carefully. Any indication of violence and, if so, what kind?
(Investigation 30 (nat 20))
Starker's examination shows no evidence of violence.
