Starker pipes up after wiping the acid off of his clothing and skin. "Perhaps a different combination of rotations will yield a different result? That would seem to be a very plausible expectation. If so, we should expect seven additional outcomes from this experiment. Cyrus and I will stand there," indicating a location back down the hallway, "to provide keen observation and recording of outcomes while more stalwart fellows conduct the trials."
Here is a list of the possibilities and their outcomes:
Kragen finishes removing what remaining acid from his person, listens to starkers dissertation of the permutations and then walks away from the alcove.
Kragen turns to the group “put your inkwell away Mage, we are here to remove Illiandill not dick with his incessant traps. Lets move on and find this fiend, we know where this trap is if we have to return to solve it.”
turns and peers down the corridor opposite the wheel turny alcove.
perception check at advantage, Eagle eyes engaged.

if nothing untoward is viewed, motions Chadwick to continue.
This is an odd-shaped room with several doors throughout the room and a cabinet along one wall. There are two sets of double doors and two single doors. All is quiet here.
Starker begins to stow his notebook, dejectedly. Cyrus stands atop the skull on the staff with the inkwell at ready. He looks about with wide eyes and an agape mouth. A simian WTF, if you will.
The time crunch has us all on edge. Perhaps, when the lich is gone, our ability to use spells like Mage Hand will return. That would make experimentation safer.
Perhaps one of these doors to the east will lead us back toward the fountain. We did need to go back downstairs to fight the skeletons, right?
That's right- the last encounter, we needed to go down to get to them.
I am just trying to imagine in my mind how this connects. I know we needed to go downstairs to get to the room with the bickering magic mouths and gust of wind.
Then in our encounter with the skeletons, we also needed to go downstairs.
So my thought was that by moving east, we may be on the other side of the fountain- assuming both sets of stairs were the same depth, and these passages are not sloping too much.
/ooc It looks like the corridor from that room lines up just east of where Starer is on Owlbear now.
“Much as I admire our newfound passion for levers, wheels, and acid showers, I’d remind you that the sands are still falling, and Illiandil isn’t getting any less lichy. Every minute we dither with traps is another moment closer to catastrophe.”
He gestures toward the dark hall ahead with his bow hand, cloak whispering.
“Pick a door? Let’s move. Time’s the one enemy we can’t turn undead.....tick-tock!”
Chadwick, has seen it firsthand and can probably provide a more detailed description.
The only significance: As you recall, Starker discovered the secret door in the entrance room. Subsequently, we found the stairs leading down, but they were blocked by the strong gusts. Our ropes and circus stunts couldn't even get us past it. We hypothesized that Illandil might have made a shortcut with the secret door and trap to something important. Rather than split the party, we went back up the stairs. So this is really just a different/long way past that trap.
Trolkarl will look down the stairs into the darkness to see if he can see what is below. You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.
He will take a few steps down, giving Sir Chadwick time to show up with the globe/beacon of bright light
The hallway does lead to the room with the fountain.
A small fountain softly gurgles clear water into a silver lined basin along one wall here. Ripples gently cover the surface of the water. Three doors line the opposite wall. The ceiling is 15’ high and finished. Written in Common on the wall above the fountain is the message: “Come, drink deep from the Font of Life.”
Kragen frowns heavily!
Xymox: "I did warn you."

Looks to Starker...

Yartol asks, “Which skeletons? These last have been the only ones animated.”

"remind me the significance of the Fountain Master Trolkarl?"
"If that is the desired focal point, then we should work to get that door open" next to Starker
Xymox nods at Trolkarl affirmatively:

Curiosity gets the better of him and Starker opens the door. Cyrus spins around to face him, dumbfounded.
The door opens to reveal a short hall. Stairs lead down into the darkness.
Starker shrugs, “I’m inscrutable.”

The hall continues forward, likely to the room with the fountain.
Chadwick will proceeds down the stairs listening carefully.

Chadwick will listen to the door on the West (perception 15)of nothing he'll open it.
