Kragen frowns at Starker and nods at Yartol for his admonishing of the Mage.
Then turns to Chadwick and claps him on the back "Tyr smiles upon thee Sir Chadwick, that brought back fond memories of that grumpy old Dwarf, Hoid!" Smiles fondly in remembrance. "I hope he fares well!"
"Well, we did not find anything in that alcove. Any ideas?"
The Doors and bars all open after Starker’s masterful turning of the wheels. The alcove remains empty with a symbol of a heart on the right wall and a set of manacles on the left wall.
Starker goes into the alcove and he and Cyrus start to investigate, looking at the walls though pieces of variously colored glass, letting very fine dust fall from their fingers along cracks and crevices to detect air currents, tapping the walls in architectural auscultation, examinjng the floor for any slight scratches or ridges, …
Xymox rearranges his gear and looks about the group. He then walks over to Starker and Cyrus and peers over the mage's shoulder, in an effort to appear like he has any idea what logical process is being put into place.
The combined efforts of Starker, Cyrus and Xymox yield no new information, it seems it is a very well protected blind end of a hallway with glyphs on the right and left walls.
Kragen wonders aloud "Is there something about the Glyphs on the walls that indicate a clue as to the purpose of the room?"
"Heart and Manacles... is that an inference to confined/constrained/committed values?"
"The only places that we have not explored and uncovered the remaining 2 arrow shaped inserts is the level below. We would need to navigate the Piercing stares of the wall skulls. Thoughts?"
Kragen looks quizzically at Starker "Interesting, what spell and school of magic would that be??"
"My suggestion would be to return to those areas below which we have not explored and see if we find the remaining artifacts. My dwarven sense of location tells me there are locations we cannot get to on this level that are just to the east of these confounded useless Wheels" Motions to the 3 turny things, "It appeared that the pedestal in which the arrow shaped materials fit, my lead to the entrance to this area."
Starker:”It is a scroll of Passwall, a puissant Transmutation spell. The other scroll I can not read, I think it is something Father Kragen can likely read.”
Listening to Kragen and Starker, Trolkarl considers their words then walks to the north peers down the hall to the east then walks back south and peers down that hallway and stairs.
Although it may be considered a risky use of the scroll, I felt compelled to share an unconventional approach.
A - father Kragen's suggestion of the ares to the east we can not reach - beyond the sealed door to the north in the room with the pedestal and bottomless pit
B - Starker's sharing this finding of the passwall scroll
We have another option: Try to drop into the passage without needing to risk life and limb searching further for these arrows. We see sets of stairs that appear to our east. I believe the southern set depends and the northern set goes above something.
The stairs do not appear to be terribley long. Perhaps it is less than 20' depth between the floor of the overpass and the ceiling of the passage below for the northern bit and the reverse for the south set.
I would hate to lose the scroll if it didnt pan out. However, if the trade off of spending the scroll save us resources- it may be worth the gamble.
Kragen, intrigued by Mage Starkers feedback regarding the scrolls he found. "Interesting, Passwall may provide some expedited means to get to our intended target. Would this spell work for The Company or for a single person?"
"May i take a look at the other scroll to see if i can determine it's enchantment?"
Listens intently to Trolkarl. "Depending on the capability of the scroll Starker possesses would determine if your suggestion is plausible, Master Trolkarl. Reconnaissance of the afore mentioned undisclosed area may be executed by an individual. However, i would think that we would want The Company together, if that leads to our intended target. If the scroll cannot provide that, then we may be back to other means, such as the Pedestal with arrow shapes as our means to target."
Starker, can you confirm if we would be limited to an individual? I was imagining our party going through the newly created passage/hole in the ceiling or floor together.
