Kragen looks to Starker and Cyrus. “Are we sending the monkey on a scouting mission?? We need to be about it.”
”if that’s not a viable option we need to choose our approach.”
”Xymox, are you willing to disarm the mechanical traps associated with the remaining chests? Unfortunately, if you fail, we will all likely be exposed to the effects.”
“Maybe we wait and see if we can get to this other room?”
Starker calls Cyrus over to him. He reaches into the pack and pulls out TWO mango slices without marking. He hands these to Cyrus one at a time. Cyrus accepts them and takes his time eating them, enjoying them. Starker's eyes glaze over and Cyrus turns towards the bookcase. He climbs up the shelves and enters the tunnel beyond the door. Thankfully, the lava appearance is just an effect rather than actual molten stone.
Starker describes what he sees: "The tiny passage ends in the wall of a small, square chamber. It is illuminated by several sconces high on the walls emitted red light. The ceiling is 15’ high and smooth. The floor of the room is translucent with emaciated bodies moving about below. Cyrus is looking down upon them and can see their heads and somewhat see their shoulders as their bodies disappear in the translucence. The are all milling about, packed tightly into the space below. Standing before the far wall to the right is a pedestal of carved red and black stone. Sitting atop the pedestal is an ebon black tube, capped with a golden stopper set with a huge ruby. Faintly pulsating runes of power glow with angry red light."
After those taking heed clear away, Xymox tries to disarm the mechanical traps. Roll one = 8. Roll two = 20.
Xymox attempts to disable the mechanism of the trap on the left of the bookshelf in the SE corner. He fails. And sets off the trap. Necrotic energy explodes outwards from the chest. All in 20' are affected. Xymox fails his DC 17 CON save, taking 41 necrotic damage.

I am almost certain it is as likely to be trapped as anything else we have encountered. So I am not very confident saying it is a wise idea. But we have to ensure the lich can’t return . Perhaps a rope tied to it and we pull it through after Cyrus returns?

Is the chest now open or still closed after the trap went off?
“I agree with your assessment Master Trolkarl, what Cyrus described is likely the phylactery. I would suggest we forego tinkering with the remaining chests, unless we can reduce the risk of harm to the party?”
”Starker, would the Passwall scroll we have in possession open a large enough opening with enough depth to get us to that room?” Points towards the tunnel and the south wall
Kragen opens the explosive chest to find assorted relics: a petrified imp skull, 3 silver rings with infernal runes, a vial of quicksilver that moves against gravity (worth 1,000 gp), and a spell scroll.

"Hmm, seems like it's coming from this rather rather gouche sword not the ring.
I'll keep the ring for now, don't want to risk transferring it and making the door reappear."
To the sword he says "If we weren't in a hurry I'd drop you in the bottomless pit."
He turns his back to the sword and explores the bookshelf (token moved).

Xymox: "MEDIC!" looks at Kragen.
Chadwick starts to mention staying close to him for additional protection, looks at the blast radius, then casts heal wounds instead.
Xymox heals 12.
Thanks! Xmox bows to Chadwick. Xymox casts being word on himself to heal an additional 13 hp.
Seeing Xymox being tended,Trolkarl turns back to Starker.
Starker ,could that tube be the phylactery? Can Cyrus bring it back to us safely?
“Valiant attempt Xymox, are you still in need of healing.”
Kragen performs a medicine check on Xymox. 1+6=7 😔
Thank you, friend Kragen. (Xymox now at 42/52 hp)
"It could be," Starker responds. "I can send Cyrus over to grab it if you think that wise?"

The chest remains closed. He was attempting to disarm a trap.
OOC/ I believe he disarmed the trap, in the most Chadwick way possible.
…quickly becoming the Cris Collinsworth of the Company.
Kragen moves back to the chest that Xymox just disarmed, checks for any remaining traps.
MA Guidance, the. Perception check. 13+6+1=20
if removed, opens the chest.

“It will create a passage large enough for a big man to comfortably walk through, Father Kragen,” he responds.
Kragen opens the explosive chest to find assorted relics: a petrified imp skull, 3 silver rings with infernal runes, a vial of quicksilver that moves against gravity (worth 1,000 gp), and a spell scroll.
“Do you think it will work with the deleterious effects you have experienced with some of you schools of magic?”
