After a few hours of socializing and listening to gossip/stories Chadwick will start gathering the party to check in on how everyone is doing, and swap whatever interesting stories they've gathered. He is interested in staying for the culmination of the faire, but will side with the party if they think it is unwise
Does he have any ill effects from the drinks he's had?
Trolkarl will also socialize and make friends, starting with the table of anthropomorphic animals. Looking to introduce himself and how he and the group found our way into the Feywild walking through a cave. Mostly looking to learn anything about the situation of where he has found himself - possible places our group could be of service while we are here.
Persuasion: 17+6= 23
Following the purple pie, experience he will refrain from food and drink. Unless he can tell this is some major social problem, he will do his best to make friends and not be rude.
The table of fey are friendly and welcome Trolkarl among them. A mug of Year Beer shows up in front of him and a toast to Trolkarl is offered by the fox, "To our newest participant in the Faire!" A round of "Huzzah!" is exclaimed and all finish their mugs. New flagons arrive along with plates of vegetables and some kind of meat balls. The fox and cat enjoy the meatballs while the rabbit, hedgehog and pig sample the vegetables. The Year Beer is good and refreshing. It has a firm backbone of flavor with hints of lavender and spice in the background. It is named from the process to make it takes one year. Earlier this week the batch for next year's Faire was laid away in the nearby aging caves in several great tuns.
Trolkarl is able to learn a bit about the Faire. It is held annually to revere the spirits of the lake. Offerings are made to have peace and prosperity for the coming year. It has been many years since the offerings were not deemed of quality. Bad years for the village of There follow when that sad event occurs. There is some unease in this discussion. It seems that for the past many years one of the participants, The Crow, brought offerings of great value and ensured a successful Faire. No one has seen him yet this year.
Tonight is the Offing Night. Everyone who has participated in the Faire must attend. The hedgehog says, "You and your friends are the newest, so you must offer first. It can be individual or for all of you. It is auspicious to be first, make it count."
Gneuman speaks to the other party members softly, "Gentleman, look at the lake. There are no waves. Not a single ripple. Does that seem odd to anyone?"
Kragen, upon listening intently to Gnuemans observation, peers up to detect signs of any wind in the area. Leaves rustling, grass swaying, feel on the face or body….
There is a collective gasp from the Faire attendees as Starker sends the coin sailing towards the lake. He felt a strong sense he should not but overcame it to pitch it forward.
A pixie appears in the path of the coin and catches it in her gut with a quiet “Oof!” She then blinks out with the coin.
The cat tells Trolkarl, “You should tell your friend not to do that. The lake is to be respected.”
Starker to Ajax in Draconic, translating as he goes along for those that don’t speak it:
”Friend and Guide Ajax! Can you tell is of the Crow and/or of what offerings in the past have been deemed worthy? It seems a gold piece and a show of the art of physics was not thought good enough.”
Do any of they other attendees seem bothered by the perfectly smooth lake?
"I'm going to go chat with the wood elves and see if they're from here, or visiting. Maybe they can some advice or suggestions for a tribute?"
Chadwick welcomes any that wants to go, then heads off to buy a flagon of mead/ale to share with the wood elves in hopes it might loosen their tongues.
Trolkarl thanks the cat. Shakes head. And approaches Starker and quietly shares the info on this being a faux pas here
To the group
Perhaps rather than a material offer like a coin or locks of Chadwick’s hair, we could try something else . What about a performance with each of us contributing as an offering?
A drowsy Ajax replies to Starker, "The offerings are made at the ceremony. Leave the lake alone otherwise." He lolls off into sleep again to rouse a bit and say, "The Crow always brings the best offering. Is he here yet?"
The elves are intent on packing up. The day is getting late and the ceremony approaches. None are interested in being chatted up.
Starker: “perhaps when Ajax deigns to respond more usefully he will instruct us. However, given the Hag/Troll’s reaction to Hoid’s tale, perhaps a performance would be good. I can play catch with Cyrus as the projectile and Mage Hand as a partner, and perhaps finish by lobbing him up high and Misty Stepping to catch him at the end of his parabolic journey. Really, when you think about it, what could go wrong?”
(Huddles up with Cyrus and starts to cajole/bribe/practice.)
Moss agate exchanged.
