The evil treant was destroyed on the upside-down ship leading to that ship breaking apart. All narrowly escaped the ship through the fading portal. Starker was executing his Exit Strategy when he was stopped by Kragen and Chadwick for fear of the flames crossing the portal to the Transcendent Treant. He bore his disappointment well. The treant was revived a bit and Starker and Chadwick then piloted the Transcendent Treant to the Rock of Bral. It now sits off the docks a few miles recovering. Mallinora helps get the group established at the Astral Deva, an inn in Mid Town. Rooms and meals are arranged and a good night's sleep is achieved. The Astral Elves have been contacted by Mallinora and messages of gratitude and promised reward have been returned for the salvation of the Transcendent Treant. Mallinora intends to split the reward with the group 50/50.
Exploration of the Rock of Bral was undertaken. It is a large, vibrant city filled with races from all over the crystal spheres. An occasional illithid is spotted as well and there is an actual embassy of the illithid. Gneuman spots a familiar sign during this exploration. It is the craft mark found on the enigma device. A gnome craftsman operates the shop and after a discussion it is discovered he crafted the device for Rastagna 90 years ago. He goes into the back of his shop and brings out a dusty box containing a second device. It was commissioned by Rastagna and paid for. The gnome gives it to you as the rightful owner.
An associate (?) of Mallinora named Lady Ventrix has offered the group a job to find a missing person, Lady Arin Stormrider. Lady Stormrider is an emissary from Waterdeep. She arrived shortly before the group and has gone missing. Two nights ago she disappeared from her rooms at the Prancing Pony in High Town. This was the night of her arrival. Agents of Prince Andru spotted her heading into Low Town that night and she never returned. That is all the information Lady Ventrix could offer. She is beautiful and clearly of noble birth and has caught the eye of Chadwick who is working hard to remember all of the graces taught to him at the citadel.
The group ventured into Low Town to the Happy Beholder, a bar owned and operated by the beholder Large Luigi. After spreading word of their search, along with some coin, Trolkarl, Chadwick and Starker caught the interest of a trio from the Juggler's Blade organized crime group. They suggested that the help of Durgan Vox, owner of the Lucky Lady gambling hall, be enlisted. After regrouping and debating the group headed to the Lucky Lady. All but Hoid and Gneuman participated in the gambling. Starker did well at a high probability of win game earning 25gp. Chadwick broke even at a mid-probability game and Trolkarl hit it big on a low-probability game winning 85gp in total. Trolkarl's winning streak was shared by the table and they were the focus of attention. Durgan Vox invited them to his table to inquire about the group's origins and visit here on Bral. He is a giff (think anthropomorphized hippopotamus). He and all of his guards carry blunderbuss weapons which the giff are noted for loving. Tales were shared about a missing love of Chadwick's and Durgan Vox offered information to help, for a price. The group has been enlisted to find an "item of tremendous value" brought to Bral to sell to a wealthy collector by his rival Horvick Mardusk. Durgan wants to be the seller and has suggested that he would be indebted to anyone who brought it to him.
The group debated engaging in what is essentially robbery of one "businessman" for another. The warehouse they were directed to by Durgan Vox's unnamed human associate was scouted out and guarded. Using Silence and Knock spells, an upper shuttered window was breached by Cyrus the MMM and Ajax. Guards were found inside as well. Trolkarl summoned a fey spirit who then proceeded to wreak havoc inside the warehouse attracting the attention of the guards out front who then went inside. The group followed them in and closed the door. All the guards are now unconscious, lying about the floor and catwalk of the warehouse. Chadwick has entered what appears to be an office area on the upper floor. It is early morning with sunrise expected in an hour or so.
"We have just perpetrated unlawful entry and now accosted these guards, be done with what we came here to do!", "We do not have long before we are walking out of this warehouse in full daylight." As Kragen checks on each guard, finds some cord/rope and restrains each one.
"Not sure that all has thought through this fully however, unless we plan on killing these guards, we have be made as they will certainly recognize us.", "I will not be apart of killing innocent beings." Continues about his business looking very conflicted and frustrated at what has transpired and being complicit with this act.
Starker, can you please detect magic around this cart? Perhaps this valuable item is something small they haven't unloaded.
We dont know that this valuable thing is magic but considering things for us to check on this level.
Considering the cart, perhaps we could use it to load the mooks on board and then take it back to Vox at the Lucky Lady. Ask that no harm come to them. But that Vox keeps these guys safe for a couple of weeks until we are out of town. That is for his benefit and ours.

Kragen any opposition to taking these guys to Vox for safe keeping for a couple of days?

Starker reconsiders his reflexive parsimony and casts Detect Magic as an instantaneous action rather than a 10 minute ritual. He now and for the next 10 minutes can detect magic withn 30’ of his position, and can walk about while foing so provided he can continue concentrating.
