Hoid and Kragen hold fast to the rope, attempting to walk through the gray wall. Instead, they find the rope is pulling them forcibly through the wall at a high rate of speed. Each struggles to keep his footing due to how fast they are propelled by the rope.
Gneuman watches the dwarves get pulled through the wall and under more control, walks through. Ajax asks prior to their approaching the wall, "What about Cyrus? Will you bring him, or, leave him here alone?"
(( Bringing all back to this thread now that the Band is Reunited. ))
Hoid and Kragen make DC12 DEX saves upon being thrust into the room beyond the wall, both save. Each keeps his feet as they are forcibly pulled through the wall by the rope in their hands. Neither has a weapon ready at this time. Gneuman steps through and is thrust into the room as well, DC10 DEX save = 9. He trips and falls Prone over Chadwick who is directly in front of him as he enters the room.
Gneuman and the dwarves are thrust into the room through the mirrored plane that Starker entered through. A tremendous, reverberating GONGNGNGNGNG!! sound is produced and the surface of the mirror plane ripples for a few moments.
The room is hot and stinks of sulphur and hot iron. The elevator lift platform is on the ground here. Many chains from the mechanism that operates it are lying about on the ground with one end remaining connected to the lift pulley system.
Across the room a pile of chains stands as a 10' tall bipedal form with hooked chains trailing from the ends of its "arms." Two red glowing eyes are seen where the face should be and smolder with malevolence. It is facing you. Starker is to the right of you, standing and seemingly unharmed. Trokarl is on the ground, unconscious and bleeding out. Chadwick is cowering in the corner in fear.
Across the room is a mirror plane filling what appears to be another passage, perpendicular to the floor. To your left you see an opening in the wall also filled with a perpendicular to the floor mirror plane. Tracks run from this to the center of the room. Above the platform, in the shaft upwards, is a mirror plane parallel to the floor and ceiling.
The chain creature approaches with barbed chains whirling about it body out to 10'. "NYS JUTZUPW! TAHW OAR PH YLZYRZIULPYLZ!," the creature bellows as it closes in upon you.
Chadwick makes a DC15 WIS save = 14 and continues to cower in fear in the corner.
Hoid makes a DC15 WIS save = 13. He stands in place, transfixed with fear of the creature.
Gneuman lies on the ground and makes a DC15 WIS save = 12. He remains Prone moving into the corner with Chadwick.
Kragen makes a DC15 WIS save = 17. He feels the malevolence of the creature wash over him. At first he wavers, but with the assurance of Chadwick nearby he steels his will and resists the creature's fear.
Kragen stumbles through disoriented at first, then regains his composure as he sees The Company in a state of disarray and Trolkarl in desperate need of care. Then gasps as he sees the Daemon before him, you hear him utter a curse and then "A Warlock Knight of Vaasa", "Thistlepig and his cursed Knights be damned". Gathering his courage...
Holds The Scales of Justice (Holy Symbol) high in the air muttering a prayer to the Mighty Tyr! "Bring us the courage to slay this vile Daemon and send him back to the depths of Hades!"
Kyton moves closer to Starker. He releases Trolkarl from the fiery chains and they reform around Kragen, attempting to bind him. DC15 DEX save for Kragen = 20. The chains are unable to wrap themselves around the dwarf. Kyton follows up with two attacks from the barbed chains he swirls about his body, to hit = 16 and 17. Both miss. It then moves further away.
TtD (2d12 necrotic, halved if dc 15 Wis save) dam = 8
Starker runs away as only he can He magically moves so as not to give Kyton the opportunity to claw at him, and then scampers away further.
He then casts Toll the Dead at Kyton. You might note that the deadly bell sounds different then when Kragen casts it Less like a bell and more like an early Moog synthesizer programmed to sound like a cracked bell.
Starker:”His name is Kyton. He is a prisoner, perhaps because he is so very evil and dangerous.”
Starker now out of range of the Bless spell. Cyrus now can see Starker on the other side of the room and hot paws it to join him. He resumes his familiar perch on Starker's shoulder with a death clench around his neck.
Chadwick comes to himself with murder in his eyes. He sprints towards the creature with his glaive whirling, he barely breaks stride to reach down and grant Trolkarl a healing touch (LoH 25hp), he then leaps up striking from above (Vow of enmity).
Attack 1: 27 to hit, 12 damage
Attack 2: 29 to hit, 7 damage
(Once again, I will lament on the change of smite becoming a bonus action)
Hoid laments having to wait until Chadwick is one square too far away before he can make another saving throw and rolls a 12 plus 2 for bless, totaling the maximum amount possible to still fail.
Chadwick's internal dialogue is not quite what the rest of you see as the creature is 10' tall. He springs forward and heals Trolkarl, saving him from death and the consumption of his soul by Kyton. Two solid blows from his glaive hit the creature. It is made of chains and not wounded like you would expect a creature of flesh to be. But, wounded by the blows.
Hoid remains lost in his fear. (That is unfortunate)
Gneuman makes a DC15 WIS save = 9 and also remains in the corner, Frightened.
Trolkarl is healed an additional 21HP, Kragen receives 1HP.
Trolkarl is targeted by the Infernal Chain attack, DC15 DEX save = 14. It hits for 10 fire damage and Trolkarl is Restrained. It then attacks with it barbed chains, to hit = 23 and 18. Both hit for a total of 23 piercing damage.
Trolkarl is Restrained and Prone. Trolkarl DC15 WIS save = 10 (Nat 1). Add Frightened to the list. Trolkarl cowers in fear in place as Kyton laughs loudly.
Kyton DC15 DEX save = 7. It takes 37 damage from the Lightning Bolt. It reacts to this latest attack with a roar of pain.
Starker continues to prosecute his evocative onslaught against the fiend. His spell pierces the creature's thorax and exits the opposite side leaving a charred hole with molten iron dripping from the edges. It shimmers and staggers before disintegrating into a sulfurous cloud of noxious fumes. All who were frightened feel the dread that overtook them immediately leave, freeing them from the fear.
The mirrored wall of the room begin to vibrate with steadily increasing expansion and contraction waves. This continues until the stone walls are affected as well. Another reverberating GONGNGNGNGNGNG!! deafens you and the shattering of a thousand panels of glass showering shards throughout the room.
Fearing the worst, you all brace yourselves for the impact of a million splinters of glass.....****y to feel nothing. The mirrored walls are now gone. The smell of sulphur and burnt iron dissipates. The ghosts of a dozen dwarves rise from the scattered bones and debris of the room. One appears to be a priest of Dumathoin with the spectral holy symbol of a mountain set with a large gem is suspended from a chain around his neck. This ghost looks to Kragen and gestures to him.
The ghost from the hall enters the room as well. It floats over to a pile of bones in the corner, looking down upon them. It looks to you and makes the same gesture the priest did. Pointing with its halberd, it seems to be indicating something in the pile of rubble. All of the ghosts then fade away into nothingness.
Hold on, or, let go of the rope?
Go in with the rope by walking forward.
“Kragen, the ghost might be trying to tell us something but half the party is beyond the wall. The message did no good.”
nodding, Kragen follows Hoid through the wall with rope in hand.
Gneuman looks at Ajax and shrugs. "Shall we?"
He then walks into the portal.
