Chadwick will cast cast detect evil. I jumped the gun and switched it out for detect poison/disease yesterday but he hasn't actually completed a long rest yet.
After casting it if he doesn't immediately pick up any evil he'll wander about slapping backs and making jokes but trying to cover more area. When he reaches Kragen he'll tell him of his casting disguising it with some drunken ramblings.
He sends to Freya "Something evil is about, stay vigilant."
If still nothing he'll wander outside pretending to use the outhouse and do additional scouting.
Kragen and Chadwick look about as casually as they can. Like Gneuman, all seems normal. Jotrun tapped a new barrel and the beer is good. Not as good as the Monstordrink brew, but still good.
Gneuman: "My friends. If I may have a moment, while we are all gathered around this table." "You may have noticed that Ajax has not looked himself." The gnome looks at the tiny dragon, then to the group. "I am very worried about him."
Gneuman stares into his mug of ale for a moment, then looks to The Company. "There is an event back in the Fae Realm for Ajax's lot, called The Shine. It happens every 20 years. Apparently, it is like festival or ritual." He looks to the dragon for affirmation.
"Long story short... I must depart with Ajax for the Fae Realm as soon as possible. Ajax and I are leaving in the morning."
"So....I must part ways with you all. At least for a while."
"Rest assured, if you need me (or Ajax), we will always come to your aid." "I have spoken to the bar keep and his kin. If you need to send a message or communicate for any reason, leave a message with them. They will ensure that the message gets to me."
Gneuman smiles slightly. "I will check in at Jotrun's periodically....I would ask that you do the same."
The Gnome stands up, grabs Ajax and puts him on his shoulder. "Now. We have a very early morning ahead, and I fear that I have already enjoyed too much drink." He laughs. "Thank you for letting me and Ajax be part of The Company."
Should I fall in battle, I take comfort knowing the Company shall never be short on eloquent spokesmen. Perhaps I should take the time to get to know this Xymox better...
Starker to the remnants of The Comany: “Gneuman’s departure means that fights we get in will be more likely to be fair. A fair fight is the last thing I want. From my position far back from the ‘thick of things’ as Friend Hoid calls it I have often observed that Gneuman contributed many more opportunities to damage our foes than seemed fair to them. I liked that. What is to be done?”

Hoid pulls Trolkarl aside, “Friend, it is better to rot in an unmarked grave than misplace your trust. This drow knows too much about our exploits. Much of what we have done has occurred far from here and without outside observers. We do not sing our own praises to strangers, so how could the drow know? Think of who slipped through our fingers: Alamnal. Who did we chase all over the countryside on this part of the continent? Craddick and a drow. These may be times of reform where some that are evil by their very nature, untrustworthy to their very core, are now claiming to be upstanding members of society. But I am not so easily swayed. Until I encounter more drow that don’t try to slip a knife in my ribs than do, I don’t trust any of them.”

“Starker, your observations from beyond the thick of things are astute. It seems we are headed for Granitestead. Perhaps we can recruit a hero from there. Or perhaps Gohumby is ready to increase his level of participation.”
Your caution is not wrong, Hoid. The timing, the knowledge - far too convenient to ignore. Trust given freely is trust squandered, and I have no interest in seeing The Company betrayed by a spoony bard with a silver tongue.
Glances to Xymox, eyes narrowing
And yet - I have lived beneath the shadow of a name. Judged not by my choices but from the blood in my veins and folly of my kin. The shame of House Ravenshield I bore as well as those who truly earned it.
I will watch him closely, as you do. But let's not condemn him for the details of his songs. Much of his flowery verse about me seemed nonsensical anyway -titan and turning a lich to dust. hmmmph. Nonetheless, odd that he mentions Indaarkken. That was no happy coincidence.
Let us have a word with him and weigh his purpose ourselves. A lesson I learned early in the courts of Cormyr: there lies a great gulf between civility and trust. He stands firmly on one side until he proves he can cross to the other.
Starker:”We must not axiomatize alignment of species and choice of moral esthetics. We have all known humans Kragen and Chadwick would consider ‘good’ and some they would consider ‘evil’. I believe our assertions of behavioral predictive capability will only be valid when if we carefully weigh assessed self-interest against their possible courses of action.
”But I might be wrong … so, so long as anyone we choose to replace Gneuman among our ranks is flammable I am content.”

Kragen rises and clasps Gnueman on the shoulder. “You will be missed, Cousin! Kragen Gravelbeard, Cleric of Tyr, of Clan Delhalls is grateful for your companionship, humbled by your friendship and proud to have stood with you in battle against evil.” Looking Gnueman squarely in the eyes. “Know this, by my honor and Tyr’s blessing, I stand ready to aid you in time of need. You call, I serve. Fare thee well, my Gnomie!”
winks at Gnueman “That’s our brothers way of coping!” Nods his head towards Hoid and then laughs
Kragen stands before Gnueman and mutters a long prayer to Tyr and sprinkles holy water on him and Ajax. then bows to Gnueman grandly.
Kragen sets aside the Monsterdrink ale and then smells the new cask Jotrun has served, if there is a funky or foul smell, he ritual casts Purify Food and Drink on the mugs served to The Company.

Kragen discreetly nods at Chadwick, acknowledging the spell and becomes more alert, scanning the crowd.

Starker:”Goodbye.”
Trolkarl rises upon hearing Gneuman's words
Gneuman, you helped restore peace to my homeland. Your fists may be small, but the legacy they left upon Cormyr was mighty. We are forever thankful.
My friend, go with honor and return when the winds will it. The Company will always keep your place by the fire.
Hoid says, “Quitter” and begins drinking excessively.
"Eloquent and heart-felt, Hoid. Thank you. I hope that one day you get your magic sword. If I find one, I'll save it for you." Gneuman laughs.
"Thank you, my friend. Be safe." Gneuman bows.
Gneuman bows to Starker and waves goodbye to the murder monkey.

“Trolkarl, your social skills are better than that of Starker’s and mine combined. Just let me know if I need to dispose of the bard.”
