The trail is readily found again in the morning. It appears that fresh tracks coming and going are seen as well. Goblins are moving through the area.
The creek winds through the woods. It is an idyllic scene with small woodland animals along the way. Gneuman spots a red fox mid-morning. Around midday you reach the source of the creek slowly flowing out of a cave mouth in the side of a small mountain. Thickets are on either side of of the cave entrance. The cave entrance is 10-15’ wide and 8’ tall. Nothing is seen that appears unusual.
Thoughts on marching order: melee front, healing middle, range at the back? Would Trolkarl be range or melee? Hoid is better at melee but has decent range attacks due to an equipment change. Throwing out a couple orders for debate.

1st proposal:
Hoid
Gneuman
Chadwick
Kragen
Erbert
Trolkarl
2nd proposal:
Chadwick
Trolkarl
Gneuman
Kragen
Erbert
Hoid
If we go with the first proposal, does it make sense from a defensive posture to have Kragen in the back or Trolkarl? Would defer to group.
Can Kragen succeed with spell hit rolls from range?
Succeed is a strong word, i do have spells that inflict damage with 60' of range. Whether i can hit the target is a different question? Only was thinking about any "up the rear" ambush. I am good with Trolkarl in the rear with the gear.
In new rules does regular light spoil dark vision? Thinking Hoid in front might be better if he can see further in dark.
Speaking of light, any handy spells to help us humans avoid running into shit?
Need to keep an eye out for traps, goblins can be tricksy.
According to this discussion, 5e rules do not explicitly state that light sources ruin dark vision, which is different from the old infravision rules. But DM can override because rule is silent.
After careful consideration and battle planning, you approach the cave entrance. Arrows suddenly fly from the thicket to your right at Hoid. You are unable to see through the thicket to see who/what fired at you.
Advantage to hit = 10, 17 and 6,12. One arrow finds its mark and his for 4 damage.
Gneuman is up first with initiative.
(( /checking programming for bad code. Should have had a critical hit by now.... ))
Home from red dress run and just finished a three bottle bourbon tasting. The Yellowstone store pick from Moline HyVee was my favorite and for 40$ just become my new mixer. I'll have to stock up while they are on sale.
Once the other three have acted Chadwick will Leroy Jenkins the shit out of that shrubbery.

Is the cave entrance wide enough for two abreast or single file?
With one walking in the stream, two.
Do the tracks go into the cave on the other side of us, or like they are walking up the creek path?
Let’s stay single file to avoid extra noise.

Chadwick, you are in a wee man's sandwich. just following the stumpy ones and you should be good. We'll tell you when you can go "Leroy" on them!
Once the shit hits the fan, who can cast a light spell for the ONLY character without dark vision?
Erbert can prestidigitation a torch alight for you with some snarky comments about human vision limitations…
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Darkvision and illuminated vision overlap. Neither cancels the other.

I can cast a light spell for those who are visually impaired.
Gneuman to act
Gneuman! Don’t stand there you jackass!
Did Gneuman try on the red dress yesterday also?
