Yartol follows Kragen around as he performs his search. He obviously does not like to be underground, but is working through that anxiousness by staying active. He searches along with Kragen along the ground and walls within reach. "It seems that there is nothing in these halls behind us, good dwarf," he says after they complete their search. "If you have not yet accomplished what you feel you should here then we must need to go forward somehow," he continues. Adding, "At least that is what it seems to me."
He stands at the secret door found in the wall of the mausoleum, "There must be more this way, if there is any more at all."
"I concur Yartol, let's go redouble our search efforts there. Especially behind the evil glowing face, though I have a feeling if there is a passage there we have to make the right offering in the bowl."
Chadwick will begin searching to the East of the secret door. When they get to the alter he'll put the iron key in the bowl and see if anything happens.
Chadwick searches around the room with the altar and the hallway to it. Yartol joins him. They begin in the altar room searching behind the dragon statues and around the wall to the left. Chadwick gets to the altar and places the iron key into the chalice. They find no secret doors. There is no discernible effect after putting the key into the chalice on the altar.
“Thank you for assisting Yartol, coming to the same conclusion. I’ll join you and Chadwick in the ritual room for a more thorough search.”
Once in the room, assists both with a thorough search, using the same method previously used in the west passageway.
looks thoughtful when encountering the Altar. “I can’t help but think that the script on the Altar may provide a clue? Mage Starker, can you decipher?”
Kragen then stares at the contents on the Altar and searches his knowledge for common ritual practices in dark lore.
The inscription upon the altar appears to be either Infernal or Abyssal. Both are similar and use a similar alphabet.
The items on the altar seem to be standard fare for evil rites. A dagger for blood sacrifice, a chalice to catch a blood sacrifice or to hold a liquid used during the rite, a tome of dark rituals and a box to contain a relic or some other item of potency. You do not know specifically if that is how any of these items are used. But, that is the pattern.
Starker and Cyrus finish the Identify ritual While Cyrus puts the prism, compass, and owl’s pickled eyeball away, Starker turns to The Company and says:
“To open the box, someone must touch it and, while touching it, say something both personal and true.
”Kragen, I am willing to make the attempt if you will consent to stand close by and be ready to use the Protection from Undead scroll. I will defer to your wisdom in the matter.
”Colleagues and friends, I am afraid that opening the box will somehow summon/release Illiandal, but I see no other path for progress toeards the goal Xagyx has set for us. It might be best if you moved far away.
“Mage, regardless of our… differences in … perspective. As long as I stand, I will do everything in my power to ensure you continue with your incessant curious nature.”
”if you are confident that you can call this evil forth the I propose that I Bless you with Tyrs protection from evil.”
Kragen stares at Starker intently with those infernal gogles.
”Prepare, The Company! When you have each indicated that you have completed whatever positioning and preparation of measures offensive and defensive, I will toich the box while saying something true and personal.’Ware the fiee tendrils.”
<waits for an indication from each that they are ready, then toiches box and says “I saw my first, my best, my only friend killed in a senseless laboratory accident and it scarred me and convinced me that the clash between good and evil itself brings about suffering that neither good nor evil themselves alone would cause. That is why I intend to risk rending the multiverse through the fusion of pure good and pure evil.”>
Kragen places his hand on Starkers shoulder, pulls his Holy Water, spraying it on Starkers and around him. Says a prayer to Tyr “Bless this soul may he be protected by your hand”.
Starker has a far off look come to his eyes as he says: “I saw my first, my best, my only friend killed in a senseless laboratory accident and it scarred me and convinced me that the clash between good and evil itself brings about suffering that neither good nor evil themselves alone would cause. That is why I intend to risk rending the multiverse through the fusion of pure good and pure evil.”
Yartol reacts with a look of surprise on his face.
A red aura surrounds Starker and rises above him as a stream of smoke would. It trails towards the skull in the wall. A low humming fills the room as the writhing flames in the floor increase their pace. The pulsation of the light from the skull and the ropey flames in the floor increases in frequency. You see from the corner of your eyes that the dragons at the far end of the room subtly change position. There is a rectangular outline in red light along the 'north' wall of the room.
The lid of the silver box on the altar hinges open to reveal a large, beautifully cut ruby inside. It glows from within with a dim, pulsing red light in rhythm with the skull and the floor. The aura surrounding Starker completes its movement from him towards the skull and enters the mouth of the skull to disappear.

As soon as his 11 minute Identification ritual on the silver box is complete Starker will examine the script on the altar, refering to his notes.

Starker carefully copies the script into his notebook for possibe future translation.

"Good work Starker, but please hold off on touching the gem until I can get into position by the dragons. I swear they moved when the box opened."
Chadwick moves over by the dragons just in case they decide to get more animated.
