Ta good idea, especially if we need to return through this route quickly. My only concern is whether we can conserve as many resources as possible for any encounter with the lich. But if this summoning circle can be easily sanctified or undone, I will contribute however I can. But this might be more Starker or Kragen's expertise.
The intrepid champions follow Kragen back into the "Thunder Dome", where they previously dispatched the vile Daemon scorpion thingggggy.
Full of courage and confidence, having been bolstered by Kragen's encouraging speech. You ask yourselves, why do i feel so much more confident... the rest under Xymox brilliant protective Hut, Starkers incessant, damnable curiosity, Chadwicks utilitarian desire to carry every damn weapon upon Faerun, Trolkarl's pragmatic yet sarcastic responses, Yartol's command of the obvious, or Kragen's eloquent and inspiring speech??
What you do know, is that the Lich Illiandil WILL fall today, that you are sure of!
The Company, arrayed in battle formation (ramming speed Sulu), approaches the pentagram.
Kragen searches his knowledge of the Arcane to discern the best way to break the magic surrounding the effect.
Arcana check = 12
Turns to Starker "Mage Starker, your thoughts on breaking these effects? Dispel or other means??"
Kragen thinks on how to disrupt the magic of a magic circle. Channeling his inner Yartol, he determines two rather obvious means: physically disrupt the circle or dispel the magic within.
many times the obvious is the answer. Physical or magical disruption are the options. This particular circle is powerful. It likely is protected from both given the investment to construct it.
Many permanent circles are made physically harder to resist physical disruption. Also, abjurations are present to deflect magical attacks. This circle radiates Conjuration and Abjuration. You have seen a Conjuration effect. Not necessarily the only Conjuration effect. You have not seen an Abjuration effect.
Starker points out the several most vulnerable to physical attack on the circle.
“Perhaps a simultaneous use of several damaging cantrips at these different points might work? I am prepared to try Firebolt at this interesting syzygy of star symbols on this quadrant.”
Xymox eyes the others with a faint grin, violin already rising.
“Ah, nothing brings out the bravery in men like scratching a chalk line in the dirt. Very well. Let’s unmake a demon’s doorway, gentlemen—and try not to make it worse.” Xymox offers use of any of the following cantrips: Blade Ward, Dancing Lights, Starry Wisp or Vicious Mockery. Would you care for some Bardic Inspiration?
"Should we break the magic circle to prevent the demon from coming back? Wipe part of it away, or scrap off some of the paint (or whatever was used)?
We could make notes on want we changed if we needed it for something."

Xymox: "I was thinking the same thing, but my understanding of such things is admittedly very limited."

Starker:” I hesitate to mar such an exquisite work of art. However, let me cast my mind back to my third year course on summoning and signs.”

Kragen will check for a Glyph of Warding
The glyph is nearly imperceptible and requires a successful Wisdom (Perception) check against your spell save DC to notice.
Perception check 14+6=20
Kragen finds no such Glyph
Starker tries to identify a particularly crucial area of the circle, the best ‘target’ for physical disruption:
arcana=24
There are several you can pick from.
Starker points out the several most vulnerable to physical attack on the circle.
“Perhaps a simultaneous use of several damaging cantrips at these different points might work? I am prepared to try Firebolt at this interesting syzygy of star symbols on this quadrant.”
Kragen looks to Starker “I can assist with a Sacred Flame cantrip, show me where and tell me when?”
Starker:”Yes … perhaps over here, where the skulls form a rose and connect to the femur-stalk.
”Anyone else care to contribute?”
Yartol draws his adamantine short sword, “Ready.”
Xymox eyes the others with a faint grin, violin already rising.
Starker:”Just over there Yartol, please strike the horned goat eating the cat’’s heart when we strike, just there opposite Kragen.”
Once you are ready, send To Hit rolls and Damage/Type as appropriate.
Yartol: To Hit = 17 for 12 piercing + 3 psychic damage.
Xymox: "Perhaps a bit of Vicious Mockery would strike the right chord." /uses VM.
Starker:”Xymox, I am not familiar with some of those. Perhaps uou can stand ready to render aisnshouldnwe spring a trap.”
