Kragen looks to Kellen. "Brother Kellen, i appreciate your fortitude however you are in no condition for a fight. Guard the team that is working to find us an alternative escape. These items may assist you if it comes to defending ourselves." Hands him a potion of Greater Healing and the Mithral Breastplate from his backpack. (will move to party inventory)
As he is preparing Kellen, his head snaps around towards the staircase listening intently. Then bolts towards the stairwell, you see Kragen is now as swift as a boulder rolling down a mountain, you are in awe of his speed!
"Kellen, let the others know there is fighting on the stairwell. I go to help them return.", "Have Starker prepare to cast his spell, Firewall!"
Xymox: "Starker, as the resident expert, would you suggest using Dispel Magic on the chest? Or maybe the creepy paintings? If you prefer to save your magic for something more destructive, I can attempt to dispel myself....probably at a much less effective effort."
1) If Starker prefers, Xymox will attempt to cast Dispel Magic as a 4th level spell on the chest.
2) If not, he will head to the adjoining room to prepare for combat with the others.
Starker is distracted from his investigation of the bookcase and the strange red powder by Brother Kellen, "Oh, Sir Chadwick is in need? I will be there presently." Xymox then enquires about using Dispel Magic upon the chest. Starker responds, "I do enjoy evoking more than abjuring. Perhaps once we settle whatever fracas is in progress with Sir Chadwick we can discuss further? If you feel it must be done quickly, then give it a whirl." He and Cyrus then move to position for defensive spell casting in the preceding room unless Xymox has more to say.

Xymox to Trolkarl: "How quickly do we need to get into that chest? Should delay our treasure hunt to help with the fray next door?"
It’s unknown. we have been told that there are 50 of the guardians that we fought outside in route. If there are in fact 50 of those things waiting to attack we need an exit more than anything. But the chest contents are unknown also. Lets see what is coming and decide based on more information about the situation.
Trolkarl and Xymox pull Starker away from the bookcase and into the entry room. Brother Kellen dons the mithral breastplate and joins you. Kragen heads for the stairs.
The slamming of doors is followed closely by a great crashing sound. Above the din of the fight you hear Serethia’s voice, “YOU WILL NOT HAVE ME AGAIN!!”
Combat at the top of the stairs continues. You see Serethia with her wand outstretched and a burst of fire erupts from it.
Yartol attacks, scoring a critical hit for 19 damage with his short sword.
Serethia’s voice climbs to a yell as she casts Fireball through the open doorway. Chadwick and Yartol feel the heat of the flames enveloping both creatures. She is not an Evoker like Starker, no avoiding the effects of her spells. Both creatures take 31 fire damage.
The second creature charges to fill the place of the fallen one. Chadwick STR check = 16, creature = 18. It is able to keep the door from closing, but loses ground to Chadwick.
Chadwick is rattling off a series of curses that would make a hill giant blush, also heard is a few phrases in common. Something about not being able to get good footing and a slick floor. Most observers figure it has more to do with the giant creature on the other side of the door than the floor.
Str check 13
"Is there only one of those things out there? If so I'm just going to straight up kill it and stop mucking around. It's like trying to get that old billy goat in the barn when he didn't want to go."
Kragen arrives on the scene to find Chadwick struggling against one of the creature with the door. Yartol is striking at the creature with his swords and Serethia is unleashing fire upon it. Another of the creatures appears to be dead on the ground.
More calls in these creatures gutteral language can be heard from down the hallway.
Kragen rushes up the stairwell seeing Chadwick struggle to close the door and Yartol and Serethia battle the octopod.
as he his cresting the top stair “Serethia, if we close the door can you magically bar it?”
if she says yes, then… Kragen says a prayer to Tyr to grant Chadwick the strength, while Kragen adds his strength to Chadwick’s to assist closing the door.
MA Guidance on Sir Chadwick - add 1d4 to any ability check. Plus Kragen adds his strength to Chad and the door.
if no, then… points the Judge at the creature and completes a prayer to Tyr.
Kragen comes up the stairs to find Chadwick struggling with the door against one of the Mukbok creatures. Serethia agrees, "Yes! Get the door closed, I can seal it!"
Kragen follows up with Guidance and assists Chadwick.
The two of them together are able to get the door closed. The creature is yelling on the other side. Answering yells can be heard not too far away.
With the door closed, Yartol sheathes his swords and also assists holding the doors. Serethia then steps forward, uttering a spell. Arcane Lock is cast upon the doors. She steps back, "That should hold them unless they have a wizard spell caster amongst them. We must find the phylactery and make our escape."
"Thank you brother for your assistance against this beast." Chadwick says surprisingly terse.
Chadwick's twisting his halberd in his hands while he stares at the barred doors makes one think he was relishing the now forgone (for now) fight. He looks towards the tiefling for reassurance the doors will hold. Nodding towards her once she returns his gaze.
"I would like to sort out what that sword is all about in his secret chamber. If he has captured another relic like the Titan it may be if use to use."
While he says this trying to sound nonchalant, this is the first time he has shone interest in loot aside the practicality of things like the adamantine mace.
