(Upon my turn) Kragen will continue in hot pursuit of Trolkarl, ensuring he is not left alone if an encounter ensues. If an encounter ensues, Kragen will be prepared to react based upon the conditions.
You continue your pursuit of the goblin, unable to gain on him. The passage turns a corner and opens up into a cave. You see bedrolls and a cooking fire in the room. Smoke chokes the air a bit and lingers around the roof of the cave. The goblin you have been chasing is here. It has a human man in his grasp with its’ scimitar to the human’s throat. The man has his wrists bound in front of him. The ropes look frayed. You see a large shard of broken pottery at the man’s feet.
Wheeling around, the goblin barks, “Yip yIp bARk Bark. BARK!!”
As you approach you see Trolkarl gesturing with his hand, palm up at you. He is yelling over the water noise, ".....goblin......hostage........sleep...."
Chadwick will use his movement to get to the mouth of the cave. Not sure if the first five feet are rough or not. If it is he'll have to back up five.
If he can reach the goblin with another 30 he'll use his action to dash. If he can't reach it and it's visible he'll shoot it with his crossbow, shouting that he's got eyes on the fleeing goblin.
To hit: 7 (Sorry whoever I just shot, clearly wasn't the goblin)
If he can't see it he'll try and track it.
Survival: 4 (Chadwick follows his own tracks back to town)
Chadwick closes on the goblin and engages him. The goblin uses Disenge and continues to flee. ((Chadwick and goblin1 positions are now relative. This is a running fight leading away from the cave entrance.)) Chadwick to act
Erbert moves up and completes his Sleep spell putting both the goblin and the human to sleep.
I was confused a second and thought Erbert was putting Chadwick and the fleeing goblin to sleep. Foolish is certainly a word that applies to Chadwick.
Chadwick will move 25 feet towards the goblin and then take a swing. He's annoyed having to run in chainmail since cardio is for weenies and real men lift.
To hit: 8
With all the huffing and puffing Chadwick misses wildly and he reconsiders his earlier thoughts on cardio.
If he can use his last 5 feet to get in front of the goblin without provoking an AOO he will.
If the non-Chadwick group is free to proceed with non-combat (no initiative), Hoid will reconnoiter the room and then look for something to secure the goblin. The rope used on the human will do if nothing non-frayed is available.

You are.
This large cave is divided in half by a ten-foot-high escarpment. A steep natural staircase leads from the lower portion to the upper ledge. The air is hazy with the smoke of a cooking fire, and pungent from the smell of poorly cured hides and unwashed goblins.”
There is sufficient rope to secure the goblin after freeing the human.
Goblin1 comes to realize losing the big oaf is unlikely to work. He stands his ground and attacks back with his scimitar, landing a vicious slash through the weak points in Chadwick's armor. To hit = 20, damage = 8.
Kragen nods to Erbert "Well done Mage!" Seeing Hoid is securing the Goblin, Kragen addresses the Human and examines to see if he is injured. If so, he tends, binds and stabilizes his wounds. Once complete, and the human is relatively stable, he proceeds to investigate the room and it's belongings. Looking for anything man made or unnatural in the case such as false walls, false doors, etc.
Investigation = 3 Kragen is unable to find the mornings breakfast in his beard.
Kragen attends to the man. He is in a very weakened state. It appears he has been beaten and tortured fairly aggressively. His injuries look fresh. He looks to the dwarf and whispers, "Magnar! I lost him..." He then passes out.
Hoid has the goblin tied up securely. It is starting to rouse from sleep.

If i determine that he is not stable and needs Tyr's divine strength, i will pray for restoration. If i think he is stable and will heal naturally, i move forward with "looking at the pretty rocks!"

He is stable. Just exhausted and injured.
Hoid and Kragen's search of the room turns up some questionable looking foodstuffs and wooden utensils and bowls.
The serving girl listens to Hoid, “Nae, I do not know of him. I’m sorry,” And moves on to the other patrons.
The dwarf sitting down the table from you looks up and stands. He walks over to you. His gnome companion pulls out an intricate pipe, fills it from a pouch and lights it with a candle from the table. He gently puffs on it, observing your talk with the dwarf,
”I am Magnar Stonejaw. Brother of Cleggor. What is your business with Cleggor?”
From your first visit to Jotrun's Tavern in Shalecliff....
Feeling refreshed after feeling the healing power of Tyr flow through him Chadwick decides to end this scuffle by swinging for the fences. And promptly misses (11 to hit).
While lost to the folks in the cave due to the flowing water, the squirrels are startled by the yelling and cursing.
"For ****s sake your are just too gods damn short. How am I supposed to hit anything this small!!! Catching greased pigs back home was easier than this!!"
He then glares down at his axe as if it's responsible for the wild swings.

Before anyone does anything else foolish, Erbert points at the room and casts sleep, putting 21 hit points of creatures to sleep.
Then he says “Go get the goblin and save the man!”
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Chadwick closes on the goblin and engages him. The goblin uses Disenge and continues to flee. ((Chadwick and goblin1 positions are now relative. This is a running fight leading away from the cave entrance.))

Hoid will untie the human and tie up the goblin.

Investigation = 3 Kragen is unable to find the mornings breakfast in his beard.
Anything less and the beard would be shameful. Searching for breakfast in a dwarf beard is automatically at disadvantage.

Chadwick uses lay on hands to cure himself 10 (character sheet updated).
"You would better off surrending, then you might make it out of this alive"
(Mostly to test if it can understand common so I could use command next round.)
Chadwick heals himself and continues to fend off the goblin's attack. This time it misses, to hit = 6.
