Erbert steps up and delivers his sleep spell. You are out of Line-of-Sight in your current position. (( Feel free to reset in another location at the edge of the dotted line so you do have LOS if you like. ))
Bronk and Chadwick move into position. Bronk closes on the tower and scurries up the ladder fairly quietly.
The rest of you move onto the plateau overlooking the camp. The cliff here is about 40, above the camp.
You are just outside of Darkvision range to the second tower. Looking down below you can see the horse paddock with two horses. They have no tack/harness on them and are not tethered as you can tell. There is a water trough for them and a feed basket with hay.
At the base of the cliff is what appears to be a stockade. You see a dwarf and a gnome lying by the stockade. The dwarf is flat on the ground. The gnome is sitting up against the post. You see chains and shackles on both of them,
You also see a hobgoblin in chainmail exit the fourth tent across the camp.
Chadwick tries to make his way up the ladder as quietly as possible. Assuming no boiling oil is dropped on our heads we'll dispatch the goblins ASAP, them make our way back to the group.
If we can actually see anything he'll take a quick look around before heading back down.
What does the Hobgoblin appear to be doing? As we wait for Bronk and Chadwick to return.
He looks to be walking towards the tower Chadwick and Bronk are in. You see Chadwick scurrying through the trap door to the tower platform.
Seeing the Hobgoblin walking towards Tower 1, i point at Hoid and Gneuman, finger walking on my hand and then point to the Tower 1 and then to Hobgoblin. Then I run my finger across my throat.
Hoid whispers in Bran’s ear, “Follow Gneuman to the base of the tower and hide in the bushes. If things go poorly, you two charge the hobgoblin.”
Hoid whispers in Gneuman’s ear, “Lead Bran to near the base of the tower. Stay out of site. Hide in the bushes if that will work, but most importantly, keep hidden. If things go poorly with the hobgoblin, charge and dispatch him.”
Hoid will then army crawl to the edge of the canyon to the position on the map so he can see the tower, keeping as low a profile as possible.
Kragen stealthily moves closer to the edge of the escarpment and lowers himself into the prone position with Crossbow, ready to fire on Tower 2 or anything else that is LOS.
Whispering to folks up top. The ballista is unmanned right now. I am keeping an eye on the back of the camp.
Trolkarl will take a knee, to quickly go prone as needed and be less of a sore thumb up here. If he is unable to see the back of the camp, will go full prone up next to Kragen.
Scanning camp, alternating from the ballista area to the hobgoblin.
Note to self and DM: I will react with Radiant Castigation if I take damage from a target within 60' during this encounter.
Hoid will wait, hoping that Bronk can pull something off. But if the hobgoblin starts up the tower or looks agitated, Hoid will pluck yew. And use action surge for a second shot if needed.
Bronk stands and looks over the platform wall down below. He speaks to the hobgoblin in their speech. It doesn’t need translation that things aren’t going well for Bronk. He then moves to the center of the platform to the trap door and kneels.
You then hear the trap door on the tower platform open and see Bronk start to head down. The hobgoblin is standing in place with his hands on his hips, watching Bronk.
(( Illumination from the fire baskets in front of the rear tents as well as the fire in front the group of tents added to the map. ))
Bronk leaves the tower platform and is descending the ladder. The hobgoblin slowly starts calling toward him, on hand free and the other on the hilt of his sword.
Erbert readies a fire bolt if the scene does not play out well with the hobgoblin, although he is not excited about the prospect, as it would essentially be a flare across the campsite. Instead, he contemplates a distraction, he wonders about making it sound like the gnome or dwarf has an upset stomach from the beans or whatever was provided for tonights meal, with a horrific gas problem. He contemplates a distraction with a series of very loud farts in the other direction. “Might just be enough to distract him, if needed.” Erbert thinks, with a chuckle to himself.
Bronk gets to the bottom of ladder and the hobgoblin lets loose with a string of what can only be trouble for Bronk. As they close in together the hobgoblin reaches out and grabs Bronk by the hair, growling something in their language in his face.
Right about then you hear the dwarf below let out an enormous fart. It was astounding. Enough so that the hobgoblin’s attention is drawn to it. He pauses in his abuse of Bronk to turn and look. The gnome wakes from the sudden disturbance beside him and looks to the dwarf. He instinctively reached for his nose.
Bronk takes the opportunity of the distraction the draw his dagger and slash at the hobgoblins arm, to hit = 14. The chain mail blocks the attack but the suddenness of it allows Bronk to break free. He then uses Disengage and moves away from the hobgoblin.
Seeing the attack, Chadwick rises and fires from the tower top, to hit = 24 ( nat 20 ) for 16 damage through the hobgoblins forehead. He falls to the ground with a thud.
The gnome’s head spins to the right as the hobgoblin falls. He then rolls over to the dwarf and starts to drag him behind the stockade posts for what little cover they can find.
Hoid runs down the ramp, by the west tower and to the hobgoblin corpse and drags it towards the trees/bushes by the tower (if no one bears him to it). He will then search the corpse, particularly looking for keys to unlock the prisoner’s chains. He will also retrieve the crossbow bolt and return it to Chadwick, all the while pondering how to further expand upon Chadwick’s titles.

Gneuman and Bran move to the trees/bushes at the tower trying to remain hidden.
Chadwick and Bronk finish off the tower goblins.
The rest of you crouch low near the edge of the cliff.
