Dracor doesn’t find anything obvious in the loft… besides a lot of dust on some of the crates.
“There is nobody at the village but we can send a letter to the city. I know a wizard who could possibly have some idea of what it could be. Truth be told, I've never seen anything like this, “ Alena briefly turns her small journal to Wulcrath, so he can see she has copied the symbol inside already. Her attention suddenly changes to the floor.
“Did you hear that? The floorboard you just stepped on… it made a different sound. Move aside,” with her eyes narrowed, she inspects the wooden floor. One of the floorboards looks just a bit different than the rest, the difference so subtle it is easy to miss.
Just then Preston’s call comes loud and clear in the still morning air from the direction of the barn, catching the attention of everyone present.
Preston’s taunt works and the bravest of the rats comes forward, hissing and trying to bite. The heavy armour protects the paladin yet again, but the creature stays close, hissing and snarling. Two more rats come out of the barn, one maintaining its distance but the second trying his luck as well. Its sharp teeth manage to find a small gap in the armour (Attack: 16+4) and it manages to sink them in some human flesh (Damage: 1+2). The other two rats come out of the barn but keep their distance for now, just growling and squeaking from behind. It's the paladin's turn again.
[You all hear Preston's call for help but you can choose whether to go to his aid or not. I'll consider that you are joining him if you get as close as the side door of the farmhouse, then you need to roll initiative and movement effects come into place.]

Preston winces in pain when one of the rats manages to get through his armor. He retaliates against the one that bit him with a two-handed swing of his sword.
Wulcrath's attention turns to the door as he hears Preston's shout, and he makes for the door to exit with a bit of quickness. "H-hold that thought Ma'am!" He calls back to Alena as he follows Dracor out the door of the Farmhouse. "Preston!? What's going on?!" The Red Dragonborn puts a hand on his Longsword's hilt, ready to draw steel and raise his shield.

As all of you rush to check on Preston, you come across the paladin, defending himself against a pack of giant rats. You arrive just as he swings his sword, cutting through one of the rodents. The attack is so strong, it kills the creature instantly. Two more rats attempt to bite him, their fangs gnashing at him, but they fail to find their mark.
"I should go find my weapon, be careful guys, " says Constable Alena and disappears back into the house.
It is Wulcrath's turn, followed by Dracor.

Dracor would clutch the orb hanging around his neck as he points a clawed finger towards a large rat with the other. look of fear and disgust spreads across his face when looking at the filthy creatures. He would quickly mutter a few words in draconic before sending a [Tooltip Not Found] streaking towards one of the remaining rats..
Wulcrath grimaces as he sees the predicament Preston has found himself in. "Eugh, Really?!" He complains aloud at the sight of the BIGGEST rats he's ever seen. Regardless, Preston needs some help...
He dashes to double his movement speed, taking the most direct path to make it to the square below Rat D and jump into the fight. He forfeits his attack by choosing to dash though, coming to a stop with a skidding sound from his poor boots... "I'm here!" He says simply as he assumes a typical swordsman's stance. Though... how should he square off against this rodent?

As Wulcrath moves in to get closer to Preston and the rats, a fire bolt sent by Dracor flies past the big red dragonborn, hitting one of the creatures. The rodent gets engulfed in flames and after a few agonizing seconds of frantic squeaking dies, just as the fighter reaches it.
When the radiant energy of the sacred flame erupts from Ella's hand, the rat manages to quickly dodge aside (DEX save 14+2). The holy light passes by it, avoided by the surprisingly agile creature.
The two remaining rats run forward, agitated by the new figures on the battle field. One of them immediately tries to jump and attack the cleric but with the strong chain mail Ella wears, it does no damage. The second has its beady red eyes focused on Wulcrath, it sneaks past the body of its fellow rat and lunges at the red dragonborn. Despite the heavy armour, the rodent manages to find a vulnerable spot (Attack: 17+4), its sharp teeth piercing through a gap and sinking into the flesh (Damage: 5).
There are three remaining rats alive and it is now Preston's turn.

Preston feels a bit more confident now that two of the rats are down and the other members of the investigation party have reinforced him. He goes to swing again at rat A, hoping to get rid of it as well.
The paladin's weapon strikes the rat, slicing deeply into its body. A fountain of blood erupts from the wound, splattering the ground around it and Preston and Ella somewhat. The rat lets out an ear-piercing screech, writhing in agony as it attempts to escape its inevitable demise.
With Preston being busy, the rat in front of him moves in attack (Attack: 17+4), finding the unprotected spot in his armour and biting the paladin again (Damage: 4).
With that, it is Wulcrath's turn.

Well, that solves the squaring off problem... "Oh..." Wulcrath doesn't have much time to decide how he feels about the burning rat or the fireball that just sailed past him before another Rat's attack finds a gap in his old chainmail on his leg, and pierces his scales with a mighty chomp. "Hmnk!?" The Red Dragonborn chokes down a yelp of pain as he grits his teeth, bringing his sword down in a retaliatory slash toward the rat that just bit him with his Longsword.
