Ella is not used to plants, and she's a fan of them from afar, but she's decided she doesn't like walking through them. She's brushing some dirt off her armor when she hears Dracor's exclamation, and hurries over, trying to see whatever it is he was pointing out.
As you emerge from the trees, a fleeting glimpse of russet fur catches your eye on the opposite side of the lake. The presence of your group causes the red fox to instinctively freeze for a moment just as it was drinking water from the lake. The wary and unsure animal takes a few cautious steps backwards, though it maintains a fixed gaze upon you, before swiftly disappearing. Dracor and Ella, however, can see it hunkering down in the grass, pressing itself to the ground, ears pricked up and amber eyes fixed intently on your group. You all get the feeling of being watched.

Wulcrath watches the Fox take off, losing sight of it almost instantly as it hides in the grass. He looks from Dracor, to the grass, and then back to Dracor. "That... sure was a fox." He says with a little nod at nothing in particular. He isn't sure what about it was such a big deal to the other Dragonborn.

"Yeah... a WILD fox..." Dracor would reply with a look of slight confusion across his face. "It's still over there watching us... " The dragonborn would add as he squints hard in the direction of the creature. "Maybe it has friends... maybe there are MORE dirty wild foxes out there just waiting to ATTACK!"
Wulcrath just shakes his head to himself, suppressing a laugh. “Maybe if your a Gnome Child?” He was somewhat expecting this kind of thing from Dracor already but Ella? The Red Dragonborn takes this chance to check over his gear while they’re idle once more, doing what he can to keep his Longsword and Dagger in good shape.
Preston takes note of the fox. It doesn’t look particularly aggressive since it ran away at the first sign of the group’s presence. He shrugs his shoulder.
"It’s simply a wild animal. These woods are its home. We’re strangers in its home. Of course, it’s scared."
The young soldier didn’t give any more thoughts about this matter and then returns to inspecting the clearing for anything out of the ordinary.
The fox stays lows to the ground for a minute or so, before it eventually runs deeper into the forest. Pausing by a tree, it casts one final glance at the group, its ears twitching slightly at the sound of your voices before disappearing from view.
Preston can see that the trail you've been following continues around the lake and then leads further into the woods, about a hundred feet ahead and slightly to the right of your current position. Conversely, the fox darted down a path in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, Wulcrath examines his sword, finding dried bloodstains from the earlier rat encounter, similar to those on his armour. While these marks don't compromise the weapon's effectiveness, a cleaner hilt might offer a more comfortable grip. Ella's and Preston's gear also bears the same tell-tale stains.

Right, looking as they should be. Wulcrath nods to himself as he returns his blades to their places at his belt, giving the longsword a little performative twirl before he slides it back into it's scabbard. His checks complete, and thinking the others look ready, his mind returns to their task. "Alright Preston, you're at the helm so far I'd say. Where to?" He meets Preston's gaze like the human is his old guard captain, patient but expectant.

After admiring the peaceful clearing for a short while, Preston pulls out the map again, and looks it over. The lake does seem to be depicted on the map. This reassures the young soldier that they are going the right way. He shows the map to Wulcrath, as he seems interested in where they’re going.
"The trail seems to be heading right after the lake. My thought is we should follow it. Unless you still have something you need to do beforehand."
If everybody is ready to press on, Preston leads the group around the lake and onto the right path. This leading position made him reminisce about his time as a sergeant. He hoped things would end better with this group than back then.
As you prepare to resume your journey, Constable Alena steps a few paces closer to the lake and crouches at its edge. Her weathered face reflects back from the crystal-clear surface as she gazes at her reflection. After a moment, with a raspy voice, she remarks, "You know, when I was a child, there were legends about a lake in the forest, one said to possess special powers..."

"Maybe it turns people into foxes? Maybe that fox is Hal?!?" Dracor would reply as he moves closer to the water and looks down towards the clear liquid.
Wulcrath stops in his tracks as the Constable and the other muse aloud on the water. "Really? What kind of special powers? I've heard worse." He says, deciding to indulge the Constable. "Maybe something that could help us track down Hal?" The Dragonborn stays where he is though, glancing off down the right path deeper into the forest. Time is of the essence...

Preston stops in his tracks as the Constable tells them about this lake. He listens in, curious but skeptical. It looked like any other lake he’d seen, granted maybe a bit more serene.
Constable Alena stays silent for a moment, her face lost in thought as she is trying to remember.
"I am not very sure... But I have heard some stories that only a drop of water can heal even the most deadly wounds, others saying whoever drank of it had visions of what the future holds for them... And then there's the stories of people turning into green frogs, too. Well, of course, it is probably all old wives' tales, " she gives a soft chuckle that sounds more like grumbling as she stands up again.
Would any of you take on the risk and find out if there is any truth to the stories?
If not, Preston can lead on deeper into the woods.
"I'll do it! It only makes sense for the bravest of us to drink from the pool." Dracor would reply with a smirk before crouching down near the water. He would scoop a small amount into his hand and bring it to his mouth. A moment later he would tip the shimmering water into his mouth and drink it.
The water is just water... and doesn't taste any different from any other clean water. But it is cold and refreshing in the summer heat, invigorating the dragonborn with a sudden surge of vitality.

"I.... I don't feel so good." Dracor would reply as he held he stomach tightly. "he would then bend forward and clutch his head.. "OH no! I... I think I'm turning into a fox!" he would shout before quickly casting presdidigitstion while curled over to give himself a few whiskers along his scaley snout. "OH no see!" he would shout pointing to the whiskers!

After totally scoring everyone he would start laughing and the few whiskers would fade. "you should have seen your faces.. the water tastes pretty good actually... I'd refill your waterskins if I were you" he would say with a grin before refilling his water skin from the pool.

Ella's brow furrows. "I can't say I know much of foxes. Are they particularly aggressive creatures?"
"I didn't uhh... take great notes during much of my schooling but I am pretty sure that they can be very dangerous." Dracor would reply with a nod.
