"By Lathander's light that was too close"
Stirling sees the note sicking out of her open pack and grabs it. He quicky checks the rest of her pockets for anything else. Finding the bag of gems and tossing them to Zeb.
Investigation 8
Stirling is looking for any personal artifacts that might give any more clues. A journal, spell book, any other notes or papers ECT
After his quick search Stirling gets up to make room for anyone else to search the body and makes off towards the town.
seeing her fall, Krackle quickly races towards the group. "I tried to tell her to run..." He says with a frown. After quickly moving to help strip anything of value from the cultist, he nods to stirling. "Yes, let's get out of here.."
He then runs back to collect the chest containing the treasure and egg. Once he has the chest, he would begin fleeing with the rest of the group.
Zeds raises an eyebrow as the pouch of gems is tossed to him but shrugs and tucks it away, why question found fortune? (I'll mark it part loot...) "Maybe we wrap some clothes around the egg and the chainmail around the clothes, if nobody wants to wear it themselves," Zeds suggests as he quickly helps strip the corpse of valuables. If nobody wishes to carry the halberd he reluctantly will, though he has little use for such a weapon himself.
"We should definitely crash for the night once we find a suitable hole to scurry into or tree to climb," he suggests later, after they have been hightailing it away from the caves. "I think I've enough in me still for first watch. We definitely need eyes out all through the night. I don't imagine they won't come after us..."
Krackle would nod in agreement, wanting to keep the egg as warm as possible. After wrapping the egg some spare cloth, he would pour a bit of water on it from his waterskin to keep it damp before covering it in the chainmail. Then once it was secured back in the box, he would work to carry it until they reach a place to setup camp for the night. "I can stand watch as well... Krackle replies as he breathes heavily.
"Let's see it was five lines like this... maybe they are claw marks ya that makes since. Then the dragon look was black no wait red the claw marks where black. Mmmm which way was it looking.. left ya that's right. Ok I think that should be well enough to show the people in town to see if they know anything"
when they setup camp, Krackle moves the chest pretty close to any campfire they happen to create in order to keep the egg warm. "That tattoo looks pretty neat. I have always likes dragons but never thought about getting one tattoo'd on me. I'm not sure you can tattoo scales very well.."
Stirling wakes for his watch feeling refreshed and ready. While scanning the dim predawn landscape he meditates on the wisdom he has gained since leaving his temple. Just prior to sun rise he preps the spells he will prey for them do his daily devotions as the first rays of light shine.
He will go back to his watch making some of the rations he has for breakfast. Once the others awake.
"Good morning how are y'all after the trials of yesterday. I'm not sure about you but I feel stronger and wiser for them."
"Slept like a rock," Zeds says. "Not that I ever understood that saying... Seems to me rocks do as much sleeping as awake." Zeds goes through some morning stretches and such then checks his weapons and armor while chewing on some rations. "Actually feeling better than I have in a bit. Maybe saving the egg was a good thing, eh?" He throws a wink to Krackle and then begins policing the camp site to gather everything and try to obscure signs that they were here.
"Seems we have a choice... Back to Greenest and the keep or back to the caverns to finish what we started. Anything there is surely and the highest alert now and would not be caught off guard, but I also have a feeling there was not much left there."
Stirling "I've no desire to return with the chest in town. To town would be the wiser course of action." Stirling chuckles to himself. "I'm starting to sound like the morning lord himself with the high and mighty speech. But I agree the risk would not be worth the reward to return."
"Thats right!, I have been trying to keep it warm and moist" He says with a smile as he taps the chest. "I say we head back to town." Krackle replies. "We got the last egg... and with the big blue guy dead, I imagine anyone left alive will have no reason to stay." He then moves to pick up his gear. "I say we head back to town, tell them what we have found out and then see where we need to go from there."
"Back to town it is. But lets keep an eye out behind and around us. I imagine those cultists may want some revenge..." Zeds says, pointing out the obvious.
The party makes good time and arrives safely back in Greenest. The townsfolk are busy trying to rebuild their homes and lives. Governor Nighhill is most likely within the keep.
once back in town, Krackle pulls the treasure from the chest, leaving only the egg inside. "Here is the treasure, not sure if you want to try to sell it or if we should take it to the governor..." He then closes the chest on the egg. "You don't think they will try to take my egg do you? maybe Jr. can help keep the egg warm while we plan our next move." He says with a look of concern.
"I think you need think about that egg. On just who you think is going to raise it," Zeds says, compassionately but realistically. "Do you plan on retiring from... Well, from whatever this is we're doing? From whatever you were doing before this? And raising this thing full time? By yourself? Where? How? You aren't sure how to keep Junior in enough feed to keep him from going wild, how much you think a growing dragon eats? How ornery do you think they get if they don't eat? And where are you going to raise it where it will be safe from local terrified villagers? From wizards needing rare spell components? Knights trying to make a name for themselves?"
"And sorry, but are you up to the task even if all that was solved? Do you know how to raise a dragon? Raise it to not be a rampaging evil threat to everything? How exactly will you discipline something that is likely going to be bigger and stronger than you the moment it is born?" Zeds continues. "I mean I'm rooting for you and that crazy egg. I am. It is why I helped you save it, I guess... But you need to get realistic about it too. You need to think about finding someone or someones who can raise it. Raise it properly. Protect it while they do. Hopefully let you be involved and all but sorry Krackle, I think this job is too big for any one person..."
Stirling offloads the gear he collected and gives it to the town guard. Then we waits for the others egar to talk to the governor then go check on the church.

Sterling search finds a tattoo on Frulam's left arm.
The party flees from the dragon hatchery cave and it is soon nightfall. The party would need to camp for the night or risk exhaustion.
Let me know if you wish to push on or make camp.
If making camp let me know if anyone will be on watch and in what order.

Stirling: "I need to pray at sunrise so I'll take the last watch I guess since I'll be up anyways."
Krackle would nod in agreement, wanting to keep the egg as warm as possible. Once at camp Stirling draws the tattoo he saw.

As you rest for the night all are now Level 4

(I'm assuming a full long rest gotten as well?)

Yes everyone got a long rest and it is now morning. The party can head back to Greenest when ready.
