Stirling offloads the gear he collected and gives it to the town guard. Then we waits for the others egar to talk to the governor then go check on the church.
Bookkeeping wise, Zeds drops off the Halberd and chainmail he collected off Frulam. He's so far holding onto the coin and jewels and such he's gathered. He's not an altruist after all.
"I... have a plan for jr..." Krackle replies with a look of disappointment. "I'm saving up my coin to buy lots of food for jr.. and I should have enough to help keep a baby dragon fed for a while too.." his eyes fall to the ground and then back towards the unhatched egg. "I don't know anything about being a parent.. I never had anyone to look out for me when I was young. I had just hoped that maybe... maybe you would help me to train the baby dragon..." He then looks back up to zeds as he twists his robe tightly in his hands. "I don't think there are many GOOD people out there that would try to raise this baby the right way. I think if anything... someone would try to raise it to be a weapon." He pauses for a moment before moving closer to the egg. "if we can find someone that we can trust to raise the egg properly... I will agree to let someone else raise the egg. But if I don't trust them then it's no deal..." The kobold replies sternly, putting his small foot down.
Stirling "I don't know much about dragons but they live a long time right? By the time your with the gods it will be what the size it a horse? I'm only guessing. That is if you can even get it to hatch now it's away from the nest"
"Actually, I don't think anyone really knows how long a kobold can live..." Krackle replies quickly. "I think it's because most of us die due to... unnatural causes related to the hazards of serving evil masters..."
"I'm... I'm not really the dragon raising type," Zeds says uncomfortably. "I mean a nice mastiff, maybe. But a dragon? I'm not really equipped to deal with that..."
"What about the people of Greenest though? I mean... It takes a village, right? Maybe you could convince them that if raised right it could be a righteous protector of their lands against any who would dare raise their hands against it like this in the future? It would likely take some convincing but I think it'll take an organization of people to do right by the dragon... But I'm just talking out of my arse, I don't really know any of this for sure."
Krackle looks disappointed when Zeds doesn't seem interested in raising the baby dragon. When Ironthar mentions eating the egg, the kobolds jaw drops a bit in shock. "I.. uh... we can see see if they will try to raise the dragon... I guess..." The kobold replies... his shoulders slumped and feeling very defleated.
The town guard happily takes the gear from Sterling as that would help replace some of the battered gear they have. Another town guard escorts the party to Governer Nighhill's study. He sits at the table pouring over some documents. He stands when the party enters "What were you able to find back in raiders camp? Was it still teeming with brigands?"
“The main host of their forces had moved on already,” Zeds admits and then explains to him how the team had explored as much as they dated but had taken some major hits. “We took out a few score of sentry types, a few at a time, as we made our way through. But each battle was fierce and nicks and cuts turn to wounds and injuries over time. As we retreated we were faced with a great warrior… She was bold and fierce and nearly got the best of us, but we managed to win out through sheer determination.”
“We rested. We had to. And then returned here. There was little to be gained by returning there - they surely had reinforced or cleared out by the time we would have been able. We turned in what arms and armor we found… but one item we retrieved needs special consideration,” Zeds says, looking to Kravkle before he continues.
“There were a half dozen or so dragon eggs being… incubated? Grown? I’m not even exactly sure. We did not want to leave them in the cults hands do we destroyed them… All but one.” He teases.
“Krackle here is of a mind to try to raise it as his own… I’m thinking it’d take more than one person to raise it correctly. The idea occurred to me that if the people of Greenest raised it as their own…” Zeds leans back, spreads his hands and perhaps allows the governor’s imagination run a bit.
“Could you imagine a better guard dog and city protector?”
Zeds looks to Kravkle to see if he wishes to expand on the idea and try to sell it better…
"We actually... Well we killed the big blue dragonborn that led the attack on the town..." Krackle adds as Zeds tells the tale. "We killed him and probably close to twenty other cultists and marauders inside their camp... And then like Zeds said... on our way out we had to face another powerful cultist... a woman that was almost as strong as the big blue guy." krackle continues as he moves to open the chest.
Placing his hands on the chest, he slowly opens the lid and reveals the last remaining dragon egg. "This is the last of the dragon eggs that were being cared for within the cultists den. I think that with a bit of effort... this dragon could grow up to be just helpful as any metallic dragon. What lives within this egg is not a pet... it isn't a weapon... it is a young intelligent being that is capable of living much longer than any of us... and if we can just... nurture this creature." The kobold then places his hand on the egg and gently gives it a pat. "Then this magnificent creature could continue to do great things long after all of us our gone. This dragon could be our legacy! This dragon could defend Greencrest and many other towns and villages just like it from evil for years to come."
Krackle makes his case to the governor while placing his hands on the egg... making sure to position himself between the egg and anyone that may harm it.
Governor Nighhill has a momentary look of shock "No I will not raise that dragon and I believe my people had had enough of dragons to last a lifetime. Were you able to recover any of the looted treasures from Greenest? Even a single item will help us in our time of need."
Governor Nighhill considers the tattoo and shakes his head. I have never seen a tattoo like that. "I can infer its most likely in worship of a dragon, but beyond that I cannot say. By the way Leosin Erlanthar mentioned all of you should meet him in Eltural at his address." He hands over a slip of paper with the address. "He may know more about the tattoo or what to do with the egg."
At the mention of recovering looted items Zeds looks sideways to the others and waits a beat.., but then does speak up.
“I did recover some goods in the chaos of the fights and running and all. I can’t swear it all came from Greenest but I am sure it will be put to good use here…” Zeds then plops down a sack full of coins and gems he had prepared for this… Zeds turns over:
145 gold, 30 silver and 25 copper pieces total, a Necklace of white pearls. (Worth 300gp) Gold and Saphire ring with the emblem of Greenest (Worth 900gp) a pouch containing 6 gems masterfully cut and polished. (Worth 600 gp) and A smudged note with the name Rezmir saying that she will travel to ..... city.
Zeds is keeping about half the coin he’d collected and the bag of gems he got from Frulam, keeping hush about this to the governor entirely. ((I think zeds gathered the bulk of coins and gems so no idea how much others have, it’s up to them what they do with it…)
“I understand the hesitation about the dragon egg but are you sure?” Zeds asks. Short term I’m sure it’d be a rough go… long term though its value could be your legacy. Raised right it would surely be a protector and a tourism draw…”
"Zeds is right, we found those treasures inside the cave." He replies with a nod as he continues to stand near the egg. "If you don't want to keep the egg... Do you know of anyone that you could trust to take care of it?"
(leosin is the monk you rescued from the raiders camp. He was the one to ask you to check back on the camp and investigate the cave. He has left for Elturel to meet a contact and wishes to meet the party there as well)
Governor Nighhill firmly shakes his head "No I do not wish to raise a dragon and all the trouble that goes with it. I do not know of any organizations or city that would take a dragon to raise." He then examines some of the offered loot and nods in satisfaction "Though this is not all that was taken this will greatly help me purchase necessary supplies. I truly thank each of you for your help. Of course, you may stay as long as you wish though Leosin seemed to urgently wish to see each of you."
He will open the door to his study to escort the party out and go one about his business.
"I had hoped to buy a carriage a few days ago... but there were none for sale. Do you think I might be able to purchase one now? Or would Elturel have some for sale?" Krackle replies as he carefully closes the chest to hide the egg within.

”And if they say no we’ll got a good dinner for everybody. Dragon egg probably taste nice.”
“Let’s not dally, Greenest is the true victim, let them decide what they want.” Ironthar tear down his camp and prepare for the journey back.

When an opportunity presents itself Stirling will show the sketch of the tattoo.
"Know anything about this tattoo?

Stirling nods a Zeb with a smile as he hands over (what he assumed is most of not all the gold).
"We also delivered some weapons and armor to the guard. Who is Leosin Erlanthar? And why do they want us?"
(If it's someone we should know I so there for Stirling has forgotten)

"I had hoped to buy a carriage a few days ago... but there were none for sale. Do you think I might be able to purchase one now? Or would Elturel have some for sale?" Krackle replies as he carefully closes the chest to hide the egg within.
