The screaming man is thrashing on the ground with Ironthar and Krackled holding onto the man. "The Scorched knights comes for my soul. Please I beg of you to let me go. I must flee before nightfall."
((OOC: Has Ixsas ever heard of the "scorched knights"? I'm guessing that's History9.))
If Ixsas has never head of the Scorched Knights, he assumes that this man is raving mad. Perhaps delusional. While Ironthar and Krackle try to hold him down, Ixsas prays to Kossuth for the light of insight and examines the man again. Does the man seem to suffer from any ailment or condition that could be causing him such pain and anguish? (Medicine18)
Zeds sees the briefest of smiles from the man in red as he observes the unfolding situation.
"That your thing, huh?" Zeds asks softly, moving in close to the man in red. "You get off watching others suffer? It really juices your berries? Makes your rod immoveable? Not that I'm judging, mind you... Everyone has their thing... Some like little boys. Some like juggling geese. Not my place to pass judgement..."
While Zeds is talking he is also looking over the man, trying to subtly determine if they are carrying anything on their person that may be worthwhile stealing. Zeds is actually more hoping for papers or something they could reveal something about the man rather than valuables... But something is better than nothing?
Investigation: 4 So robes... I assume Zeds notices robes and nothing else. *shrug*
Ixsas does their best to exam the restrained man and finds a burned handprint on the side of the man.
The man in red looks to Zeds "In a way yes. The strange and supernatural has a way of stimulating my senses. I had wondered if the tall tales of the Fields of Dead are true are not. Perhaps I will be able to see them for myself." He smiles again a bit bigger now.
Ixsas gasps at the burned handprint. He says to Krackle and Ironthar, "It seems that he's not just delusional. Let me try to bind him so that he does not run away. Does anyone know anything about these 'Scorched Knights' who can burn a handprint into a man's skin?"
Ixsas asks Faelsin or one of the other teamsters to fetch some rope. If Krackle and Ironthar will hold the man, he'll and attempt to tie the man's hands and legs so that he cannot run away.
((Are knots Survival? 13 Or should that have been some sort of INT check?))
Krackle would Hold the the leg of the man until after he has been secured. "Well... I do know magic but I am not sure I know anything about this." The kobold says with a look of concern. "I could probably heal that burn but I'm not sure if I know how it could have happened.."

If Ixsas succeeds in tying up the man, he scoots back from him and stands up. He looks to Ironthar and says, "I have not made a study of the arcane arts, but the Flame of Kossuth illuminates all. If you will keep watch on this man for a few minutes, I can perform a short ritual to beseech the Lord of Flames to reveal the Weave of magic to me. That should show me whether this man is under the influence of some spell."
Krackle remembers hearing about a battle that took place here in the Fields of Dead. It was the Year of the Spur 1348 DR. Malgar a respected wizard of the city of Iriaebor grew obsessed with the power of necromancy and made his home within the Fields of Dead. In time he raised an army among the dead. Hellrider knights from holy Elturgard were sent to destroy him and his undead minions. The battle was hard fought but the Hellriders were winning. In a moment of desperation Malgar unleashed unnatural flames across the battlefield killing the Hellriders and himself. There are rumors that on the new moon the Hellriders still ride killing all in their path.
Krackle also surmises the burned handprint can be eased with some Aloe Vera.
Krackle's Nature and Arcana does not reveal anything.
"Hey, one time when I was sitting in the sewers looking for scraps of food to eat... I overheard some old professors talking through the storm drain above that could be useful... " The kobold says while looking to his companions. Krackle then explains to him what he remembered of the conversation (OOC: He tells them what he knows from his history check). "I think we can help the burn if we put some Aloe on it or something. Then i think we need to get out of here before the next new moon if the stories are true." He adds, now clutching the egg on his chest tightly.
Ixsas casts detect magic as a ritual. He examines the teamster again and reports to the others that the red handprint shows an aura of evocation magic, which might mean something to Krackle. As far as he can tell, the man is not under any sort of geas or other enchantment.

Apparently Ixsas didn't pay attention to his history lessons, and has never heard of the Hellriders. He asks, "So, are these Hellriders the same as the Scorched Knights the man mentioned? And why are they called that? Are they some sort of fiendish company? Or do they "ride" against such forces? I mean, if this man fears the Hellriders, should we help them catch and punish him? Or should we be protecting him?"
If they decide to help them man, Ixsas is willing to help with the suggested remedy to soothe the man's injury. He says, "Since I was elevated to a Burning Brazier, I mostly rely on Kossuth's Sacred Fire to heal people, but I have some skill with folk remedies. I find many plants in this region strange, but if someone could help find the right ingredients, I can try to make a poultice."
((OOC: Ixsas does not have proficiency with herbalism kit, but he has a +6 in survival if that helps with looking for the plant. He does not have proficiency in medicine, but he has a +4 in that skill, which he can boost with guidance.))
Zeds is lost by all of this. A giant off in the distance, the strange robed figures, mysterious illnesses and throat spiders... He really had no clue what to do about any of it. If he was leading the caravan he'd refuse all these strangers and push through on the double... But right now he's just the hired help. He's tempted to off the robed ones in the middle of the night but he's not quite decided it's the right call yet.
Ixsas can forage while the caravan is on the move as it does not move at a rapid pace. Faelsin has a grim expression and also wants to be on the move. He gets 2 of his men to put the tied-up man back into the wagon and the caravan begins to move ahead on their journey.
Zeds ruminates on what he knows of the Hellriders as he vaguely knows they received that name from fighting something evil or was it demonic. He is unsure.

It sounded like the man could be a Red Wizard of Thay, but it looks like Ixsas doesn't know anything distinctive about them. History5 (in game log)

“Krackle, you know magic, right? Can you sense if he’s been cursed or something?” He asks the kobold mage.
“He’s not right in the head, I know some people who act like this turns out got some spell cast into them.”

The teamster is suitably tied up.

Ixsas ritual determine that there is a faint aura of magic from the Evocation School of Magic emanating from the handprint.
