The party heads to the dwarven merchant's room. Inside you see a dwarf wearing fine clothing and gold ringlets in his red beard. He is currently smoking from a pipe as he checks his inventory. On his left hand you see what looks like mineral veins of gold.
"Ah my boy Ironthar you still live, good. Now are these fine fellows' new customers?" asks Morahn Goldhand.
“Barely.” He says while pressing his bandaged wound. ”Glad that you’re safe, you’re my ticket to Baldur’s Gate, don’t want to lose that.”
He began introducing his new companions. ”Do you have spare clothes for the priest, and a couple of healing poultices? We really need it in order to help secure the town.”
"Of course, I do. Now young priest come here as I have some traveler's clothes that might fit you." Morahn then hands out healing potions 1 for each you.
"Now I thank ye from the bottom of my heart for defending this town. It's an important stop for us merchants and I am willing to reward you with gold if you see this through to the end. That is dwarven promise."
Zeds followed the others but also kept his distance from them. And NOT just because Sterling smelled as if he souled himself. He came through all this pretty unscathed so far, made a little coin even, but he wondered if it was wise to keep pressing his luck with this lot. They were an interesting crew so far but... Gods! he DID soil himself. I mean really??
Entering the room to meet his employer of Ironthar's at least put the prospect of prosperity into Zeds eyes. And more than just the random coins from people so desperate they were henchmen and lackeys...
"Baldur's Gate? That place is overrated... If you want real..." But Zeds trails off deciding perhaps it best to keep his opinion of where the best gambling halls are to himself for the time being. "Anyway, some shit is going on around here, huh? You know anything more about it than we do? With our knowledge being that there was a freaking dragon in the sky attacking places?!?!"
Zeds nods his appreciation at the healing potion and tips it this way and that in the light to try to check it's authenticity. He really knows nothing at all about such things but he's not in the habit of admitting such things when there is no need to.
"What exactly is it you want him to see through to the end?" Zeds asks as he tucks the potion away.
"Well through my contacts I know Greenest is not the only town to be attacked. Also, for this many brigands to attack together there must be a backer with deep pockets and enough authority to keep these hyenas from turning on each other. Whoever this backer is also savvy enough to keep these attacks only on isolated towns and villages as they are most likely trying to avoid the gaze of the rulers of the city states such Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep. Travel for merchants has become quite dangerous. Now for a dragon to assist in these attacks its mystery as I do not know who can called upon dragons. When I ask you see this to the end, I mean follow the clues and end these attacks once and for all. Find the backer and end any leadership you find. Trust me when I say you will be amply rewarded if you can finish this task." says Morahn Goldhand.
As a sign of proof, he snaps his fingers revealing a chest. The lid pops open and it's filled to the brim with gold. He then snaps his fingers again and poof the chest is gone. The chest is as big as a bathtub.
"Thanks mister" Krackle would reply before stuffing the potion inside of his cloak. The smile on his face would fade when he realizes they are talking about going to Baldurs gate. "Uhh, Baldurs Gate is uhh... it's not very nice.. I.. don't think we should go there.." the kobold would lift the cloak over his head as though trying to obscure his face.
Stirling accepts the clothes with a bow then steps out of the room. He travels down the hall and outside to a barrel of water and gives himself a quick wash. He sees an awakend who has been attending his services every morning and walks over.
Brother I did not realize you where a guard. How goes the fight? Did your family make it in alright? After a quick exchange of words he loans Sterling an old set of scale mail and a shield. (My starting equipment)
Thinking the man and giving him a quick prayer he returns to the room.
Sorry for making yall wait. Are we ready to proceed to the Governor?
"Isn't this a job for an army? Taking down armies of brigands and dragons?" Zeds asks skeptically. "How do you expect us four to do more than all the guards in this keep can?"
"Don't worry, Krackle," Zeds says when the little Kobold seems to cower at the thought of Baldur's Gate. "Just like everywhere, they're kind enough if your in the right company and have the right gold. If you go there with us... You will."
((Assuming I have time to put on the studded leather I took from one of the deaded hirelings?))
"I don't have an army and others have the same reservation. Just know even a king can perish with skillful blade of an assassin. You don't need to take on all the brigands just their leaders. Infiltrate them if you must. I am asking you to be more of a spy than a foot soldier. Though I do ask of you to help this town anyway you can. I am sure Govenor Nighhill has other ideas to help the town." says Morahn.
Looking mostly to Ironthar Zeds gives a bit of an appraising look and a subtle shrug of his shoulders as he tries to appraise his thoughts on the topic. "I mean... We did more than our share just coming from the tavern to here. But spies? Infiltrators? Have you seen us? It's not that we wouldn't each like to help... But I don't think any of us want to sign up for a suicide mission. We don't even know who we would be infiltrating or have a way in..."
"Half of this group already looks like mercenaries and if you want information than grab one of them and interrogate them. Now if you want to cover your ears and ignore what's going on than that up to you. Know that this situation will only become worse. I have feeling there will be no safe place to hide if these bastards continue unchecked. Do you think you will be safe in Baldur's Gate or any other place. Evil will triumph as long as good people do nothing. Think on that and safe travels." says Morahn
I was called to this town by Lathander for a reason I think this is it. Suscide mission or know I will help you Master Dwarf. The young man turns ro the others. We have to help these people why else would would the gods have brought us here? Turning to Zeb. If the thought of helping these people is not enough think of the coin. I've been watching you I know it's a motivation of yours. Like the master said these bandits have deep pockets. We stop them they will have no need of it anymore. I'm sure the gods will not punish you if you took some as way of compensation.
Ironthar, Krackle will you not join me in helping these people?
"I didn't have any coins or much company last time I was there... I .. i uhh...didn't see much kindness..." The kobold would mutter from inder his hooded cloak in response to Zeds. listening to Morahn and Ironthar discuss the situation we were in, Krackle would speak, barley loud enough to be heard over the commotion going on around them. "I guess I can help. I... am going to need all the coins I can get to feed Jr... and I am used to sneaking around..." he would continue as his scaly tail slides up into his cloak and you can hear the sound of him wringing it with both of his hands nervously.
"I don't need to cover my ears to ignore what is going on, it seems I could just join you and your guard," Zeds retorts to the dwarf. "You seem quick to send us out there to do something while you sit pretty here hiding your head. You promise gold in great measure if we succeed... None of that helps us if we die trying. My point, my good man, is if you feel we should take extra risks perhaps you can use your contacts and resources to better prepare us. Arms. Armor. Information. Coin to bribe those henchman who are easier swayed by gold than by threat..."
"And if I am fond of the coin, friend Stirling, it is only because I have been called to it. By Lathandar? I can't say for sure. One of the gods seems to keep putting it in front of me to take. I would be a blasphemer to deny them, would I not?" Zeb answers with a smile.
"Each of us are suited for different tasks. Do you lack arms? From what I can see you all have some manner of weapons, unless you speak of some legendary arms and armor. Well, I cannot help you with that. As for information that is why I asked you to infiltrate the brigands outside to learn more. If you want me to go with you then I can, but you will soon realize what a hinderance that will be. If death is what scares you then wait and do nothing. It will come to you soon enough. At least resisting in some way, we may find an alternative path to survival. Look into my eyes do I seem like a coward" says Morahn.
His eyes are steady and unblinking.
He hands over a pouch with 100 gp. "Here see how far this will get you with those brigands outside"
As if to reiterate the danger you are in you hear the rumble of a lightning blast striking the keep causing tremors and a few frightened screams from the townsfolk.
"I am OK with seeing the merchant too..." Krackle would add
”Goldhand sells various things, from spices to silk, if his wares survive you can buy some clothes from him. Let’s just see for yourself.”
Ironthar started walking towards the merchant’s place.

(Yes, Sterling it's fine to assume those things about the temple as you were there)
Zeds followed the others but also kept his distance from them. And NOT just because Sterling smelled as if he souled himself. Stirling will smile wide and grab the Kobold by the shoulder.
Bother thank you. He will stand next to him and look at the others
When Stirling grabs his shoulder he would look up towards him and give him a small smile... even though the fear in his eyes is obvious.
