Zeds looks to Ironthar. "Up to you, buddy. We need you at your bestest but who knows how long they can hold out? No pressure though."
There are times Zeds appreciates his low key approach. Sure some of those fighter types can totally out power him but you keep yourself alive long enough and you can usually tire them out and take advantage of them. Not entirely unlike poker...
"I'm not tactician but seems to me up we stick to the treeline closest to the water that'll give us some coverage from spying eyes and get us most of the way there, yeah?"
“I say we rest first recover our strength.“ Ironthar started his short rest routine, drinking water eating ration, cleaning and bandaging his wound and lay down for a while.
Stirling nods. "I'll meet you all in the yard." Stirling stops my the merchant to get a replacement potion and buys a new set of vestments then spends his rest praying over the dead and providing what lasts rights he can.
Now after some rest the Governor leads the party to a blank wall that hides a hidden door. With a quick twist of the key the door begrudgingly opens. There is a rush of stale air and stairs leading down choked with cobwebs.
"This is the tunnel. Good luck. I will tell the Castellan to leave now." says Nighhill. He then turns to send out the guards.
Krackle would begin to head into the darkness, almost excited about the prospect of entering the dark tunnels. as his vision changed from color to shades of gray he would glance down towards his pocket and stop for a moment. the kobold would then pull out his orb and mutter under his breath as he cast light. Suddenly the daggernon his belt would begin to glow with a golden light. "This should help you all to see.. I almost forgot you might not be able to see in the dark like I can."
Zeds blinks a couple times after the light takes over just as he got accustomed to the dark. “Thanks, Krack,” he mutters absently.
“You too, Stir,” he adds.
Zeds climbs down warily of badly tended to steps but with no caution of monsters or such. If the attackers had found the secret tunnel then surely the keep would have been overrun by now.
Eventually the stair leads down to a tunnel. The more you progress the more you notice the walls are pockmarked with small holes. Sterling and Krackle you are the first to notice a rat darting just at the edge of your light and then the sound of hundreds of more rats ahead of you. There is swarm of rats standing between you and the exit.
Th swarm of rats covers the entire floor. Hunger drives them to see the party as nothing more than their next meal. You have time to do something quick before the rats starts gnawing on your ankles.
"Watch out!" Krackle would shout towards his companions. "groups of rats like that are dangerous! They'll eat us all if we arn't careful..." he would continue as he ducks behind Ironthar. He would point the glowing orb out towards the rats and whisper in draconic as he casts create bonfire between the party and the rats. "Get out of here you bity little beasts!" He would shout towards the creatures, hoping that the fire would not only prevent them from moving towards the group... but also maybe scare them away.
Gross rats. Stirling pulls his travel cloak tight around himself casting resistance on himself. He pulls out his crossbow and makes ready just in case.
Zeds grabs one of his oil flasks and attempts to lob it into the center mass of the rats. Hopefully the bonfire is close enough to ignite the splashing oil and the rats it covers…
Flask to hit: 19, - On a hit, the target is covered in oil. If the target takes any fire damage before the oil dries (after 1 minute), the target takes an additional 5 fire damage from the burning oil. You can also pour a flask of oil on the ground to cover a 5-foot-square area, provided that the surface is level. If lit, the oil burns for 2 rounds and deals 5 fire damage to any creature that enters the area or ends its turn in the area. A creature can take this damage only once per turn.
The oil flask soaks the rat swarm, and the bonfire ignites the oil. The rats now on fire run towards the door at the end of the tunnel to escape.
Flashback the Governor hands the key over to the party before leaving.
The tunnel ends at an old door reinforced with metal bands. Years of rot and rust has left a small hole at the bottom of the door. You surmise this is how the rats got in. Even with the key the lock does not budge.
Maybe someone familiar with locks can unlock the door.
Krackle would wave his hand and the bonfire would disappear. "Good throw Zeds." He would say with a smile before the smell of burning rat hair fills his nostrils. He would plug his nose with his clawed fingers before pointing towards the door. "alright! let's go!" His voice would sound strange with his fingers up his nose.

As expected, is quite dark down the tunnel and you may need to light a torch.

Ironthar walks towards the darkness unafraid, he can see through it even without light accustomed to the world of darkness.

The bonfire keeps the rats at bay, but they do not run either.
