Governor Nighhill points an angry finger towards the townsfolk and guardsman in the hall "Look at the death and destruction wrought by them. There is nothing I can offer that they would not just take by force. No there is no truce. They are here to pillage Greenest and kill anyone in the way. Whole families have been wiped out by them."
Tarbaw Nighhill will then direct everyone to the stairs that lead up to the battlement. "May the gods be with you"
Heading up the switchback stairs the party arrives at the battlement with an acrid scent of ionized air and the burnt flesh of the guardsman who tried to take on the dragon. They lay slumped around the ballista unable to fire before they were wiped out. The Ballista is still in decent condition, somewhat singed by lightning, and is already loaded. Near the ballista is smashed crate with ballista bolts scattered throughout the battlement.
The dragon itself is circling the keep and waiting for its breath attack to recharge. It is flying 25 ft above the keep. It is still nighttime, but with the light of moon and the numerous fires the party can easily see he dragon.
Zeds runs out when it looks like perhaps the dragon is not looking hoarsely calling out to the others. "C'mon! No time to lose!"
Running right up to the ballista Zeds will pause just long enough to give the thing a once over to try to figure out how to aim and fire the thing, having never used one before. With a shrug he figures not trying is just as futile as doing something totally wrong so he does his best to aim it towards the dragon... "Light it if you're gunna!" Zeds call out. A moment later he fires!
Ballista Attack: 1d20 = 5. If Dex helps that becomes 9. I doubt the +2 proficiency applies so... I am assuming a miss.
Krackle would quickly leap up and ignite the tip of the arrow with a tap of his claw. "Let it fly!" He would shout as he moves to scamper out of the way of the war weapon.
Stirling simply nods agreeing with the plan.
"I'm not sure one shot will take down a dragon," Zeds says with dismay in his voice, "But I see no reason not to take the shot either."
"I can't help ask though... Have attempts to communicate with them been made? Is there any chance of a truce... Or... Well, anything?"
Krackle would just stand with the group, feeling smaller than normal as he waits to help however he can

Stirling will wait just inside the tower. Waiting to dash out and heal as required.

Yep that ballista bolt flies so wide the dragon did not even notice you fired at it. It takes 2 people to load and fire the Ballista.
would Krackle be able to *help* him to aim the weapon? after racing out and quickly lighting the bolt on fire?
(Yes, you can help aim.)
so would he get to roll again for the last shot assuming that my help would have given him advantage?
(No, you can do so for the next shot)
Ironthar helps reloading the crossbow and using his remaining strength to help rotate the ballista to assist with Zed’s aiming.
”Krackle, you can add some fire to the arrow.”
*Sorry I missed your post*

(Fire away and let's see if you can hit the dragon. It could be anyone not just Zeds)
I am proficient with my light crossbow so I mean... this is BASICALLY the same thing?
5 plus 3 if adding dex plus 2 if adding proficiency.
Another missed shot. No reaction from the dragon.
Krackle would help load another shot and light it on fire when ready
Stirling will continue to watch from the tower entrance praying. Lathander guide the bolt. So we may see your brilliant dawn.
