At the last half-second, Thrax ducks his head, watching as a volley of darts spring out of the box and harmlessly sail past him, peppering the raven's cage with a series of clunks.
Ixsas is relieved to see that the big dragonborn is actually quite nimble, reflexively dodging the needles sprayed from the chest. Ixsas glares at Dralmorrer. If he didn't worry that they still might still need him, he'd just kill the half-elf now.
Someone else can also investigate the chests if they want to.
((OOC: Separate checks for each remaining chest.))
Ixsas tries to help Zeds by examining the remaining chests while Zeds attempts to open the first two he was working on. Taking a moment to pray for Kossuth's Guidance before examining each chest, Ixsas pulls each one toward himself and examines it closely.

Ixsas used to like playing with little "puzzle boxes" as a child, and examining these chests reminds him of those games. Ixsas easily figures out the mechanism for each trap, and he explains what he found to Zeds. He has no skill with Zeds's tools, but he hopes that information is enough for Zeds to disarm the traps.
Ixsas also offers to pray for Guidance for Zeds if he'd accept and "allow Kossuth to guide your hands." (But just in case Zeds still fails to disarm the traps, Ixsas will move away from him before he attempts to open the remaining 3 chests.)
As Zeds gets to work on opening the remaining chests, Ixsas suddenly cocks his head to the side. "Shhhh. Did you hear that?", he asks, his voice suddenly tense. Looking at Zeds and Krackle, he says, "I heard a sound outside. It called to mind the sound of the Wyverns landing in our camp north of the Trollclaws. But louder. Like larger, heavier creatures landing in the Inner Ward. At least two!"
(Somehow had missed that but... 6. So yeah, Zeds missed that.)
Zeds disarm and unlock Chest 3 - gold bar worth 1000 gp
(Zeds wasn't actually opening the chests, just looking to disarm and unlock for Thrax.)
He takes 8 poison damage
Please roll Con Save DC 15
On fail Zeds will have the poisoned condition for 1 hour
Con Save: 7 - Zeds is poisoned...
Zeds can roll additional thieves tool checks for the 3 chests.
"Maybe make Drally open them," Zeds says as he backs away and pulls out the needle that shot out and pierced him. He's suddenly not feeling well at all and feels more likely to puke than to manage a tricky lock... Zeds is indeed looking quite pale and sweaty and has a case of the shakes.
((OOC: @Weathervision - I'm not that familiar with Inspiration. Can I give Ixsas's Inspiration to Zeds to let him re-roll the saving throw? Or is that something I would have had to do before Zeds tried to disarm the trap?))
Zeds was unlucky with chest 4 A needle springs out from the lock and sticks Zeds
((OOC: @Weathervision - You didn't mention what was inside chest #4. Zeds was poisoned by the trap, but was he able to open the chest in the process? Trying to see whether there's anything here that could help us in our current situation!))
Thraxinthos smiles grimly at Ixsas and Seraphina's suggestions, and is almost tempted to end things then and there. In his mind's eye he can see it already - a satisfyingly red ending as Ixsas is pulled apart like a fraying doll. "He deserves it, saviours. Dralmorrer cannot be trusted. Never sad, never sorry. Evil in him. Evil in his bones."
For the time being, the great dragonborn stows the inclination to end Dralmorrer's life and steps aside, allowing Zeds access to the chests. He watches with wonder at the deftness with which Zeds opens the chest, grumbling to himself about the size of his comparatively cumbersome claws.
Thrax attempts to yank Zeds out of the way when he triggers the trap, but is a second too late. He winces sympathetically, but is soon distracted by the Kossuthan's words of warning. "Hurry. We must hurry. Need to trick them. Send them away." The scaled monster says urgently to Seraphina, praying she has more magic he does not understand.

((OOC: Now that Zeds is poisoned, Ixsas fears that the party may not be able to leave the tower any time soon. Presumably, he has no idea how long the poison will last. @Weathervision - would that be a Medicine check?))
As Zeds starts sweating and shaking, Ixsas looks concerned. What was that sound outside the tower? Could it be "the brothers," the two black dragons they saw? And even without dragons in the Inner Ward, how are they going to move Zeds down to the caverns in his current condition?
Heedless of Dralmorrer's presence, Ixsas asks Seraphina, "The needle must have been poisoned. Do you have a way to purge it from his system? I am afraid that I am not prepared to perform this type of healing today. I have some resistance to poison myself, but I sadly did not think to purchase antivenom at Carnath House."
Golden, slitted eyes widen as he considers the yuan-ti's grave words. "Waervaerendor and Voaraghamanthar. They have come." For a second, he looks paralysed by the enormity of the proposition. It was one thing to view the monsters through the tiliskub, but if they were here, in scale and flesh...
"I will carry the small one. I will carry him if he cannot walk. No time to heal now. We must go." Thrax says breathlessly, before turning to the captive commander. "Tell me. How do we get under the castle? Under. To the treasures."

((OOC: Lots of interleaving posts today! I think that I'll wait until tomorrow so that @Oberon99 can catch up. But here's a quick summary of where Ixsas's head is at:
Ixsas was originally hoping to search the room and find more details about the caverns under the castle and how the loot is moved on from there.
Ixsas was about to suggest that one of them go check to see what arrived in the courtyard. Maybe it's "just" a couple of Wyverns and not the Black Dragons?
If the picture in post #3705 is accurate, then we may be able to open the window by the bird and look out that way.
If not, then someone probably needs to go up to the 3rd floor again and peek out through the domed roof, which we left open. Hopefully nothing landed inside that room!
But then Zeds was poisoned. Disadvantage on all attacks and ability checks is a huge handicap, especially for a rogue.
Ixsas is now trying to check chests #4 and #6 since it sounds like we may be able to get into those now without triggering another trap.
He's trying to to find anything that could help Zeds: antitoxin, a spell scroll, a potion, etc.
Unless we can cure Zeds or want to make a mad dash to the caverns immediately, Ixsas agrees with Thrax: we're going to have to rely on deception and Seraphina's Dralmorrer disguise.
Note that Krackle isn't an expert like Zeds, but he does have proficiency with Thieves' Tools. If we want to / need to disarm the other 2 traps and open and open those chests right away, we could have Krackle try to do it.
Dralmorrer says in a clipped tone "From here head to the Dining Hall (Q) then go through the southwest tower antechamber (R) which leads to the stair (S)"
"I can walk my damn self anywhere I need to go," Zeds snarls. "I'm sick, not dead. Just the fine details are a bit off is all..." Zeds follows that up with turning towards the closest corner of the room and depositing a helping of the day's meal into it.
"You! Drallamoron... Is that the dragons they hear outside? What they doing here?" Zeds eyes are half shut, his forehead beaded with sweat and the hand he uses to draw his shortsword is shaking. Still, there is an intensity about him that suggests he is in no mood for games or half measures. (Intimidation at disadvantage... a 5. Insight to judge wether or not Dramorrer is telling the truth or being deceitful or even just holding back: 14.)
As she hears the telling sounds from the castle yard, the young blonde selûnite hurries upstairs to the magical tiliskub to find out if it was indeed the twin black dragons that had decided to pay them a visit.

Since chest 6 does not seem to be trapped, Ixsas will try the key that they found on Dralmorrer to see whether it opens the lock on chest 6.

Chest 4 is still locked. Zeds just triggered the trap.
Chest 6 is also locked though there are no traps on it.
