"What was that?!", Ixsas exclaims as he recovers from his surprise, and the amorphous thing disappears beneath the fog again.
Nature: 11 (in game log) I doubt that Ixsas recognizes what this monster is. If Ixsas does not realize that it's an Ooze, he probably thinks that it's some sort of evil spirit from the elemental plane of water, sort of like those Gargoyles, but worse! As a follower of the Firelord, Ixsas is predisposed to dislike water elementals even before he saw the monster attack the party.
"Can you just move past it along the wall to your right, toward the northern passages?", Ixsas suggests. But even as he says that, Ixsas wonders how big the creature really is or how many of them there are hidden in the fog.
The young blond selûnite would be ready to unleash her moonfire over the tentacled creature as soon as she spots it or another of it's tentacles emerge from the fog.
Thrax bellows in surprise, leaping like a startled house-cat when the tendril snaps at his leg. He moves too late, and the grey tendril lashes out, catching him on the leg.
Instinctively, the dragonborn reacts with a series of hefty whirls of his axe into the spot from which he was attacked. Recognising the futility of fighting in this peculiar fog, he heeds Ixsas' warning, rushing to escape the clouds of dense mist. "Show yourself!" He cries, frustrated by the unseen attacker.
SURPRISE ATTACK: INT save: 9 ATTACK OF OPPORTUNITY: Attackwith Great-axe. To hit: (18, 16). Damage: 6
ROUND 2 BONUS ACTION: None. OTHER: Reckless Attack provides advantage on attacks, cancelling out disadvantage on attacking while Blinded, due to attacking a creature in an area of heavy obscurement. Great Weapon Master provides a +10 to damage and -5 to hit. ACTION: Attack with Great-axe. To hit: 11 Damage: 19 Extra Attack. To hit: 7 Damage: 18 MOVEMENT: 40ft towards either the north or the southern passage, whichever seems to have the least fog.
Ixsas doesn't like this situation. Some amorphous creature (or creatures?) hiding below the mists that cover the floor, waiting to attack them. They cannot hurry for fear that there's some other hidden trap -- what if they stumble right on top of the thing?! -- but they don't need to defeat this creature. They just need to get past it and to the exit that, if Dralmorrer isn't lying to them, is supposed to be somewhere at the north end of these caverns.
Ixsas moves toward the north wall so that he can follow along that wall to the northwest exit from this area. He points it out to Thrax, "There! If our prisoner values his life, that should be the way to the exit." Whether the entity is an evil elemental water spirit or some sort of swamp slime, it seems to have some sort of body. In Ixsas's religion, it is said that Kossuth's fires claim all bodies in death. Ixsas prepares a spell, ready to release it if the thing shows itself again.
Movement: Move to the north wall and then follow the line of the wall west, hopefully following behind Thrax. Action: Ready the spell Crackling of the Final Flames, WIS 15 save or the Entity takes damage: 4 (Necrotic) (assuming that Thrax already damaged it with his opportunity attack) Trigger: as soon as the creature shows any part of itself. Free Action: Talking
Zeds, behind everyone else and with Thrax all but directly between him and whatever this tentacle creature may be, pulls his shortbow and shifts northwest about 15 feet to try to perhaps have an angle on the creature if it shows itself again.
Action: Readied Attack to shoot at any threat that may emerge from the fog in front of them... (If triggered, 21to hit for 9 piercing and an extra 7 sneak attack IF it appears within 5' of an opponent to it...))
