Zeds is looking for any spot where at least the stealthier members (himself and Krackle?) can get to the edge and watch things for a while. He wants to get a rough head count, try to get a layout of the camp and try to determine where the hostages may be being kept, where the commanders are, that type of thing. Zeds is no military expert or anything but better tents will probably mean higher rank, as would food being brought to the tent and guards at them…
'I'm used to sneaking around sewers... not out here" Krackle would mention as the others lead them around the camp. "I'll help out however I can, Just let me know what I need to do. I can start a fire in one of those huts if I have to... if we need a distraction."
Zeds really knows the scaly beast as guard drakes that rarely sleeps and are extremely loyal to their master. They would attack anyone who comes near without the permission of their master.
Behind the largest tent Zeds spies this scene with his sharp eyes.
“Drakes, not dragons. Likely a lot meaner and nastier than Junior,” Zeds answers and shared everything he knows about them.
“And more troubling, I think I spotted that infiltrating monk guy. There’s someone matching his description tied up to some crossed beams. Doesn’t look none too pleasant.”
Zeds tells the others everything he sees. Including the fact there seems to be a whole crowd around this particular target. “Not sure how we’re supposed to get him out without getting ourselves strung up…”
"I.... I'm scared guys...." The kobold would say while backing away from the ledge. "How are we supposed to free that guy? They got a whole army?" The kobold would look at the ground in silence. "I don't want it to be my fault that that guy dies down there...."
“It’s nobodies fault ‘cept those that kill him,” Zeds says in a weak attempt to console Krackle. “We didn’t tie him up, we’re not the ones who are going to kill him…”
Zeds looks around and tries to think of a plan but mostly comes up empty. “I just don’t think we can cause a big enough, sustainable enough distraction to draw everyone away. To scramble down and free him maybe but to escape with him.. ?”
((From what we’ve seen of the attack and here, is there any uniform or dress code? Have we seen people coming and going? Have they been riding or on foot? Trying to guess if we could sneak in or not…))
Everyone is on foot. Black tapered cloaks and black garments is a uniform of the higher ranked members. I mean higher than mercenaries and cutthroats. You already have a mask.
There are plenty of people moving between the clusters of tents and huts.
If you can disguise yourself similar to the man in the scene with a mask, you should be able to go wherever you want within reason.
You can also disguise yourself as cutthroats or sell swords and try to blend in.
Krackle would be fine as there are kobolds in the camp.
Is there any loose boulders or rocks that can start a landslide into the camp or really anything above the camp that can make a big distraction. Stirling is looking for a way to cause a big commotion.
Or a way to free a large group of prisoners to start a riot.
Mmmmm. I don't see any other way then to stroll in. What do I need to do to look mercenary like?....
Or how fast is JR. If say Ironthar and I attack the guard tower from afar and draw their attention then run for it do you think yall could slip in and out. Maybe high tail in on JR if needed.
I don't like splitting up getting cause would be a date with Lathander.
“I think we should infiltrate them. My robe is black and we have the mask. I’ll wear it, Zed and Sterling can dress like the brigands, Krackle just be a kobold. With this many people I don’t think they woukd realize. Just go until we are close enough to the monk and quietly release him.”
(Krackle’s junior is not a drake though? We see no lizards like it down there? Trying to decide if we should bring or leave them…)
“I think it’s crazy to go down there,” Zeds tells the others. “I think we should just return and report location and numbers. We’re not army or guards or such… but…”
“I see two ways to try this. First is trying to scramble down there unseen and then just try to blend in… The second would be to wait for someone to leave and snatch them so we can interrogate them about passwords or greetings or such needed to be accepted down there…”

Stirling sees a bluff on the south west side.
Not really sure what to do in this situation.
Um we should be able to see from up there while avoiding the tower maybe?
The party circles towards the southwest.

From the southwest plateau you see the many clusters of tents and huts. Making the nigh 100 claim from the prisoner seem accurate.
#2 is the largest tent with 4 blue scaly creatures guarding it. There is something staked behind it.
Everyone who is checking out the camp roll Perception and Nature.
These are the scaly guards of Tent #2
Perception: 17
Nature: Nat 20

"What do you see? are those dragons down there?" Krackle would ask as he tries to peak his head over the edge of the plateau

Ironthar seems to be very frustrated with the situation.
”Striking them would get us killed, waiting for nightfall and that monk dies. I think there’s no other option.”
"I.... I'm scared guys...." The kobold would say while backing away from the ledge. "How are we supposed to free that guy? They got a whole army?" The kobold would look at the ground in silence. "I don't want it to be my fault that that guy dies down there...."
Stirling thinks for a moment then shrugs
"Can we just try asking them to let him go?"

No, there are none, except grass and tall shrubbery on the plateau. The only prisoner you see is the one behind the largest tent.
